Shade the Area Between Two Lines - Excel Line Chart

- In this video, we shade the area between two lines of a line chart to visualise the difference clearer.
There are many reasons to colour this area between the two lines. In this example, we use it to plot actual values against planned values.
We then tidy up the chart by replacing the Legend with an alternative way of differentiating the two lines.

Hi Alan.. great tip! So clever to use a combo chart with a stacked area to lift the backfill where you want it and then use no fill for the base area.. great stuff! I also like the touch of adding the data labels to one data point on each series using just the series name instead of a legend. These are the kinds of tricks that elude me when I'm in a hurry to get something done. Glad to learn them here for my next project requirement with a short deadline. Thanks for sharing. Hi. How funny (or is it?), that you should show this tip tonight. Earlier on the Coronavirus update briefing, it was announced that some of the charts had been altered to make it easier to see 'at a glance' the pertinent info'. I noticed that the tip you showed was one of those alterations.

I imagine you would have to create extra rows of data for those below and those above.

I used it to shade in a standard deviation lane for some diabetes monitoring on my cat, gives me a very real world idea of her readings and if they are straying outside of acceptable variations or keeping safely inside

The area chart option does not work for a data series having both + and - numbers in it. The negative region does not shows up. Hiw to fix this problem?

Computergaga thank you so much for saying something back what I meant was a filter based on another filter that are all connected to a list or lists. So instead of a drop down I wanted to select multiple choices out of the drop down so the list will expand or decrease depending on the choices selected in the filters... The first filter will change the selection of the next filter which will ultimately affect the list or lists. Hopefully you understand what I mean, I really appreciate your patience 😁👏🏽
I think you are after multiple dependent lists. I have a video on that here - ua-cam.com/video/5nb84p2wX-c/v-deo.html It is a few years old. It can be achieved with the FILTER function also. I think I show a dependent list example in the video.

Yes, I'm sure we could build that into the logic. It is not something I have a video on though.
Re: the legend showing Base and Diff... you can select and delete those elements individually in the Legend.
