I don't think people realize how hard it was for a guy with a voice like Dio to sing Ozzy's songs. On one hand you don't just want him to imitate Ozzy, but on the other hand you want him to capture the spirit of the 70s songs rather than try to make them sound like Heaven & Hell era Sabbath. I think he hit a really good balance between those two extremes here.
I disagree, for the most part. I think Children of The Grave works fantastically (but rarely played!), but War Pigs and Black Sabbath don't. However, I've always found it more pronounced on Live Evil than other recordings - not sure why that is. War Pigs was of course played with Elf, so it's not like he didn't choose to sing it. Plus "My name is.. LUCIFER! Pleeeaaase take my hand!!" always made me smile. Perhaps controversially, I'd say Tony Martin did a better job on Ozzy songs than Dio did (before Dehumaniser, anyway).
N.I.B is great with Dio. Love both ozzy's and Dios much the same. Black Sabbath not so much with Dio. War Pigs is ok - much much better with his ELF version of War Pigs - that is a really great cover.

I have a lot of nostalgia for this album. There was a long period where the classic Sabbath stuff with Ozzy wasn’t on ITunes. If I wanted to listen to any of those songs it had to be from this album and after my initial reluctance faded, I grew to love these versions of their songs.

I had this album ever since it came out. Still have it, original vinyl from 1982, not a scatch, plastic sleeve both outside the entire album to protect it, and plastic inner sleeves to protect the vinyl.
Think that Speak of the Devil edges it out especially after that stupid E150 intro. Dio does not cut thru the mix like Ozzy on Sabbath songs. Don`t think I`m going to buy Live Evil but probably Heaven and Hell.
My friend saw the show, the opening act, The Outlaws (Green Grass and High Tides) WOW! Can you imagine hearing their rendition of Ghost Riders In The Sky followed by Sabbath? With Dio? Great recording 🖤
The vastly improved sound quality on this Remastered release of "Live Evil" is truly and absolutely mind blowing. I saw Ronnie perform with "Dio" during the Dream Evil and once more during the "Killing the Dragon" tour. And one other time during with Sabbath during the 'Dehumanizer" tour in 1992. I respect Dio's singing the early Sabbath songs. It's as if he was proving he is a fan like us and understands what a privilege it is to be in the classic band. The same goes for Sammy Hagar joining Van Halen and Deep Purple's singers replacing Ian Gillan. Mi 1er cassette , con esa carátula era imposible no obtenerla, hasta ahora, y lo escuché en vivo y suena mejor que en estudio....gracias black sabbath, gracias Dio
Tengo 3 bandas del heavy metal preferidas Black sabath, judas priest,y Acdc,lo mejor del rock pesado
God Bless you Ronnie!! Black Sabbath the Fathers of Metal.
At 01:55 - you can hear Vinny taking up his position on the drum stool - gets me every time!!
Sabbath forever😎🤘
Yeah! 🤘
Thank you for this upload, Rhino. I streamed this album on Spotify, and it didn’t seem to pack the same punch. Don’t get me wrong. I love the record. It just sounds better on UA-cam. Such an amazing time for heavy metal music! 1982 was incredible! 🤟🏻🤟🏻
I saw them when they came to Calgary in 1982 at the Stampede Corral ( the saddledome was under construction at the time) I was just mesmerized by RJD and the whole band so when I found out that he had left the group I wanted a memory of that concert so when I herd about this new package coming out I hoped it would have the VHS show that was supposed to accompany the album when it was first released in 1982 but once again that memory is just that a great memory of a great band in my teens
Love this album, and the album artwork is so, so clever
Agree 100%. It's a shame they didn't use whoever did it, on their seventies albums as most of them were pretty awful, even if the music was awesome
@@laurencelevene4333I wish sabotage didn’t look so silly:( i love it but it would go so much harder with a different cover.
I read that the band was not aware that whatever their agency had planned for them next was the photo shoot for the album and so they were not dressed accordingly.
@@Nativityin6lack that would explain it. The mirror idea would have worked well if they had been dressed all in black for example
@@laurencelevene4333yeah Black Sabbath never wore much black
I love this live lp. Bought the day it was released. I have the.vinyl, cd, remastered cd, cassettes as well. Looking forward to the box set!!!
Picked up this album in like 84/85... amazing!
I saw this tour in 1982 I was 16 years old, great times when I first came to America when it was still a great place to be.
Dio was so great, just amazing.
One of my all time favourite albums.. I use to have the cassettes actually.. 2 cassettes. Part 1&2..I lost both cassettes a very long time ago. ..thanks very much for sharing.
Outstanding remastering! I want THIS to be played at my funeral! 🤘🤘
Probably It's the Best Live Album in Heavy Metal Genre from All... Ronnie Dio on the Top!
Sweet! I never listened to Dio sabbath until just the past few years and enjoy it just as much as those early albums. Of course discovering that led me to other bands Dio fronted.
One of the most electrifying start in heavy metal music. Live Evil is incredible.
🤘DIO🤘!!!!!! FOREVER!!!
I Simply love this Record! Black Sabbath For Ver Much More! Dio my dear friend, God bless you always! ❤️ Geezer, Tony Iommi, Bill Ward, Ozzy osbourne! You all are my friends forever! I'm sure we 'll be together next reencarnation! Long live Rock and Roll 🤘
That added breakdown section in Voodoo is cool - nifty bass from Geezer.
Cool upload. Something to rock out to on my drive home from work. Thanks Rhino
Ronnie James Dio 🎤🎵 Ever remembered 🙏
Such a Great Album, I just ordered it. Used to have it on vinyl, but lost it. But now can't wait when it gets in.
I remember Tony Iomi's solo s, during the live evil album when it was. And his statements about knowing he's the greatest rock guitarist in the world. As an advit' fan and cool drummer I AM, along the lines of Bonham... I can truthfully concur, that HE is! To this day! Thanks Toni for all the times you've rescued me from duress in life, through your work and real intent!! Along the lines of Geezer, Bill, Ozzy and Dio.. P. S. VINNIE, YOUR THE BEST, since those days and especially your authentic percussion that was the foundation of live evil. Thankyou!! .. backwards spelled what you meant, forevermore!😊
Pavarotti of heavy metal & his orchestra ...
Analogia perfeita!
Oh yeah! Remastered and rockin'! Love this!
Excellent Live - Excellent Cover Album !!!!!!!!!!
Meu primeiro CD na vida... Que orgulho!!!
My introduction to Sabbath, on a TDK prerecorded cassette.
Ronnie James Dio Master piece!! R.I.P
This was my first Black Sabbath album, still listening.
The best live album ever!👍👍
No, UFO 'Strangers in the Night' Blackfoot 'Highway Song Live' Judas Priest 'Unleashed in the East'
I bought this when it came out. Played it non stop. My high school was full of Springsteen, Police, Dead heads.. I was the Sabbath head, leather jacket, spiked wrist bands, chain wallet..
Good times..
Thanks Rhino. Full blast in my speaker tonight. 🤘😈
I had this album ever since it came out. Still have it, original vinyl from 1982, not a scatch, plastic sleeve both outside the entire album to protect it, and plastic inner sleeves to protect the vinyl.
Loved this double Live Record Vinyl Album, I bought it the first day it came out which revivals Ozzy's Speak of the Devil, good times!\m/✟🤟✞⸸⁶⁶⁶⛧🤘
Think that Speak of the Devil edges it out especially after that stupid E150 intro. Dio does not cut thru the mix like Ozzy on Sabbath songs. Don`t think I`m going to buy Live Evil but probably Heaven and Hell.
One of the best albums ever!!!!❤
My friend saw the show, the opening act, The Outlaws (Green Grass and High Tides) WOW! Can you imagine hearing their rendition of Ghost Riders In The Sky followed by Sabbath? With Dio? Great recording 🖤
I was their in seattle for this show. It was great.
Thanks Rhino !
He is my favorite singer of all time. The undisputed greatest Rock music singer of all time!!! So, can someone please reply back with the name of the venue The Sign of the Southern Cross was recorded at?? If my memory serves me right it was at an arena in either Montreal, Quebec or Toronto, Ontario.
Controvesrsial live album! Killer artwork!!
The gravestone of the dio years in Black sabbath during the 80s
Amazing setlist and sound. The band was ON HELLFIRE!!
Cheers everyone🇨🇱🍻
FRESCURA,Y VOZ NUEVA
A LA ALTURA DE LA BANDA
QUE VOLVIO DONDE ESTABAN A SU ERA DORADA ,BLACKSABBATH SINO ES POR RONNIE ,NO HUBIESEN SEGUIDO JUNTOS EN ESOS MOMENTOS ,FINALES DE 1979 DONDE EL DECLIVE DE OZZY ESTA EN LO MAS ALTO ,Y ARRASTRÓ A LA BANDA A SUS MISERIAS ,Y DE AHI QUE LA BANDA ESTABA DESORIENTADA
DESUBICADA .,
TONY IOMMY FUE EL PRIMERO EN RECUPERARSE ,Y PENSO EN ESA BANDA LLAMADA RAINBOW Y SOBRE TODO A SU VOZ RONNIE JAMES DIO
LO LLAMO Y CON UN PEDAZO DE DISCO LLAMADO
HEAVEN&HELL, VOLVIO A DAR A SABBATH SU SITIO COMO PADRES DEL HEAVYMETAL Y RONNIE ,PADRINO DEL YA NOMBRADO HEAVYMETAL
SIEMPRE SEGUIRA VIVO EN EL CORAZON DE SUS FANS
YO INCLUIDO ,ES MI DIOS Y SU MUSICA MI RELIGION
PASSAWAY, BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN 🤘🖤🎤🖤🤘
❤❤❤some great comments here....DIO such a voice & super cool person!.. Speak of the Devil & Live EviL ...bomb bastic albums....what great times that was....both bands revival each other...God Bless SABBATH
Black Sabbth & all it has gave us in ROCK...LONG LIVE THE SABBATH FAMILY❤❤❤❤
Dio definitely has his own style; but I think he definitely nailed it!!! Still kept the spirit of the 70's original Black Sabbath with Ozzy fronting the band!!!
Children of the sea is a wonderful song
Ozzy Osbourne is Ozzy Osbourne! Fits perfectly Black Sabbath, but I don’t know why but when I want to listen some Sabbath song(s) I always listen to the ones with the eternal (RIP) Ronnie James Dio!! Miss him a lot!!
Think that Dio does not cut thru the mix like Ozzy on Sabbath songs.
@@randallampswhat do you mean by cut through the mix? Please elaborate
@@hookbolt7362 On original Sabbath songs, Dio`s voice is not as strong, clear and powerful as Ozzy, but he sounds fine with Rainbow, Sabbath/Dio and Dio albums.
"Signs of the Souther Cross" (sic)
Gracias brother 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🔥🔥🔥
Rhino is a record company
Listening to Black Sabbath, then a ad comes on at the Last seconds??!! Way to go son of a "C" word!! You know what I mean. Exactly what you are!!!
This live version of Neon Knights is killer, with Ronnie they were atomic powered, 5 GREAT musicians producing magic🤘
Geoff Nichols was never a GREAT musician - even Ronnie cited him as being 'totally inept'
@@MarcGordonChandler He was to be at one point... Sabbaths second guitarist along side Iommi....He also played bass and used a theremin on heaven and hell. And if Dio called me anything even" Totally inept" I would be like "DIO Knows me personally Dude"
Great album. Personally voodoo is one of my favourite tracks off this album
Left to right live right to left evil.
Great live album
I respect Dio's singing the early Sabbath songs. It's as if he was proving he is a fan like us and understands what a privilege it is to be in the classic band. The same goes for Sammy Hagar joining Van Halen and Deep Purple's singers replacing Ian Gillan. Certainly, there are others who eschewed the prima donna, egotistic attitudes and earned greater respect from their fans who want to hear their favorites.
