I heard someone say that, “Forgiveness is remembering without anger “ !!!! Every time you think about the person or situation you have to choose forgiveness. It’s not easy at all. Also, I think a lot of ppl think that forgiveness equals reconciliation, which it doesn’t. You can forgive and walk away which is hard but possible through Christ 🙏🏽😩💕

I found this in a devotional one day. It said:
"We are not forgiven because we forgive, but as we forgive. The ground of all forgiveness is found in the unmerited love of God, but by our attitude toward others we show whether we have made that love our own. Wherefore Christ says, “With what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged.”
Nothing can justify an unforgiving spirit. He who is unmerciful toward others shows that he himself is not a partaker of God's pardoning grace. In God's forgiveness the heart of the erring one is drawn close to the great heart of Infinite Love. The tide of divine compassion flows into the sinner's soul, and from him to the souls of others."

oof that's good👏🏿 also that first line reminds of the Lord's prayer where Jesus is like "Forgive us as we forgive those who trespass (sin) against us". like in that prayer we legit tell God to forgive us in the way that we forgive others so it's kinda wild when we withhold forgiveness frfr

What might help with this forgiveness thing i separating your ego from it. When people do you wrong, try not to make it about you. It should be: “they did that because THEY are this person” , it shouldn’t be reflection of the type of person you are because ITS NOT! Man, I don’t know 😅 separating that has helped me let go while still acknowledging the part I played and forgiving MYSELF! In terms of my personality, I’m more like Josh so it’s kind of “easy” but I’m just trying to explain the thought process when I do it 🌚

I like to think i'm a forgiving person, but something I had to learn was when a person shows they are not sorry after offending you, you can forgive them for your own health, but the next step is not allowing them as much access to you. This has helped me, because I don't have to continually forgive them for the same thing, or become resentful because of them not being sorry. It took a while for me to learn this😭 but I found if I kept these unremorseful people in my life, it makes me bitter and unhappy. You can forgive, but you should still deal with people based off the knowledge that they've given you.

But I feel like how do you forgive yourself without even receiving forgiveness from the person you wronged? That’s where I’m like ehhh. A conversation to be on the same page should happen imo. But idk forgiveness is hard for me. I tend to just move on as well.

This is a response to 24:30, Josh is speaking about forgiveness and how you need to be able to forgive the other person to make yourself feel better. STORYTIME!! My mother and I have had a complicated relationship for a while now. A few years back when I was 11, we got into a physical altercation where she ended up punching me giving me a black eye. 6 years later and every time we argue she finds a way to bring it up and talks about how I need to forgive her and move on because God has already forgiven her. My question Josh, I understand wholeheartedly what you mean, and you saying basically what she did made me see it a bit differently. However, as a 17 year old who is technically still a child, who is still dealing with the trauma, I don't know how or when I am supposed to "get over it" like I said it's been 6 years. But I've never gotten an apology from her or any ownership, I have always been blamed for her putting her hands on me. This could be for a q&A but how am I supposed to forgive someone who has never owned up to the wrongs that they have done?

    • @izzyluma2527
      @izzyluma2527 2 роки тому +10

First off don’t let anyone tell you how long your healing process should be we all heal at different paces especially when they are things that may trigger the trauma we’re trying to heal from but sometimes you have to forgive for yourself even if they don’t own up to what they did. That doesn’t mean you let those people take advantage of you but understanding to some extent why they are the way they are and acknowledging that they are human too (not excusing their behavior or invalidating your trauma cause trust me I completely get where you’re at I’m still working on this) it should help you get to the forgiveness that’ll give you the peace you deserve even if they don’t acknowledge their faults. Also sometimes to help the process of forgiveness you have to get away from the toxic relationship. Sometimes you have to love them from a distance to be able to properly heal and help with your process of forgiveness. hope I made sense, you’re not in this alone and I’ll be praying for you 🤎

Wow. Kyah, I’m going to apologize for her. I’m sorry that she failed you in the regard of trust, safety and compassion. Something that all parents SHOULD provide but, realistically, aren’t always convicted to. Like you said, you’re 17. Legally still a child. But even if you were 52 technically you would still be her child. My point is that in your role as a child, you are not to blame for anything you’re subjected to from your parents. That trauma was not your fault and unfortunately, there was nothing you could have done differently to prevent it. The adult failed you. Your mom failed you. And now you should learn to do the hard thing: forgive her. At 17, it’s better for you to learn now that forgiveness does not require more than 1 person. You can forgive with or without the forgiveness or acceptance or apology of 2nd or 3rd party. You are allowing her lack of accountability to stop you from growing past it. You’re allowing the wound to deepen every year that passes and it will cause resentment if it hasn’t already. Your mom doesn’t need you to forgive her if she’s forgiven herself thru God. Any grudge you’re holding against her isn’t affecting her because she’s moved past it. It’s only hurting you. When you’re ready to forgive her, it would be more for your own progression then it would be for her conscience to be cleared by your personal say so. So although you’re hurt, and you have every right to be, just understand that people don’t have it all together and as long as we’re human we’ll make mistakes. Your parents aren’t excluded from them. However, because they’re your parents, their mistakes can cause long-lasting effects such as the trauma you experienced. Again, it’s not your fault! Once you forgive her, you can share the breakthrough with her if you think that will close that chapter of your forgiveness journey. Or you can keep it to yourself. In any case, you have every right to protect yourself now that you’re a little older and a lot more capable. Establishing boundaries can be done in a healthy way for you and those around you. Don’t be afraid to use your words to stand your ground when lines are being crossed. Don’t be disrespectful though because there’s nothing you can do to undo her being your mother. If space is another feature that lessens the opportunity for her to fail you again, create it. Do what you need to do to be your own safe place. Unload the weight of that grudge from your heart and mind with/without her direct apology. Allow her the gift of growing into a better mother for you. Allow her to prove to you she was wrong about that and knows better now with her actions. Some ppl don’t apologize with words. So forgive her. It’s time to move forward. Don’t forget. Continue to acknowledge your feelings. But don’t hold onto that grudge. That hurt. Let it go. Be to yourself what she wasn’t able to be for you. As an adult you will learn that you will have to be your own closure 99% of the time. Good luck in your journey hun ♥️

As somone who is currently trying to figure it out. I can say there’s no when yet. It’s how you can handle your self in situations. It’s been a year since I moved out (I’m 24) and I’m still asking when is mom going to apologize or love me the right way. Our parents are stuck in their ways. We as their kids need to learn and accept that they will never change no matter what. We will change just vow that you will be better when you create a family xoxo

After forgiving, you have to guard your heart. So that they won’t be able to hurt you in that way again. For example, say you talk to one of your friends and every time you guys have a conversation they are always shooting you down and never understanding you. You have to forgive them for their behaviors. Then guard your heart, which, for the example I gave, may look like not having deep conversations with them because you know their tendencies. ❤️

I actually get seasonal depression in the summer and fall to spring is my thriving season. I have lots of people tell me I’m wack. And forgiving yourself is a huge thing, and I have to do that sometimes tell myself that I need to forgive myself for not caring for myself properly and blaming myself for the actions of others when it’s their fault and loss that they did me dirty. I also think that when you and said person come to a common ground, I agree with Josh it’s very stranger territory.
When isi said I be doing people good, there were a few people I immediately thought of and let me tell you it’s HARD to forgive those people. And the thing is you’re valid in feeling those feels Isi but at some point we gotta let go. I even deleted pictures, messages, and whatever because I am done with the business and I’ve extended the olive branch and they can do whatever they want. But my peace is the most important thing. And God sometimes have a way of getting your point across before you even think about a plan.

You guys touched on the mental struggle of trying to better yourself last quality convos and again at the beginning of this video, one thing I wanted to point out is what you guys are describing is really spiritual warfare. Our spirit wants to grow and wants to do right but daily we have to bring our mind in check. I consider this even when I'm battling anxiety and depression there's a couple scriptures to reference the spirit is willing but the flesh is week and one that even says the carnal mind is an enemy of God. Your mind will try to bring you down for real it's daily battle within ✌🏾

Isi!!! I feel the exact same! I’m such a good person to people and I want everyone to be the same to me and we have to remember, cause again I feel this is a Virgo thing lol😅😅, everyone ISNT US! And it is unfortunate. But like Josh said we need to LET OUR LIGHT BE THE REVENGE! Literally how he put it & when he said it sent sparks through my circuits. 💡💡💡💙

I have never understood the "I'll forgive you but I won't forget". If I can't forget about it, then it's not forgiven.

The only child syndrome is REAL!!! And people who have siblings do have a higher tolerance for others! I have the same problem with forgiveness plus I’m a VIRGO.. those two things mixed make it hard to forgive and tolerate certain things! I completely understand. I didn’t start working on myself or trying until I got married and had to deal with my in laws and watched the dynamic of the relationships. My husband has 8 brothers and sisters that all grew up in the same home so they tolerate a lot from each other that I would and could NEVER!! But I do understand that’s how it works in large families. I didn’t have to tolerate anything growing up.. I didn’t have to share.. sharing is another hard thing for me. So I completely understand! My faith and my relationship with God helped tremendously!
On another note: I have three kids of my own.. one of whom has level 2 autism and tolerance is easy when it comes to your own kids… forgiveness is also easy… but… they will also hurt you the worse.. people can only hurt you as deep as you love them… so kids can literally break your heart.. (teenage years) but the love you have for them will most definitely over power all of the anger, sadness, etc..

Thank you so much Isimeme and Josh for this well needed video!
Did you mean Pomodoro? I want to know because I love learning new ways to be efficient. I got into that when i was studying for exams and it was beautiful. I felt like I could do anything. But Josh preaching about the routine is life changing when you are serious about it! You would be surprised with how efficient.

I also feel like men can forgive “quicker” specifically in the situation with fighting because masculine energy in our society is attached with that aggression already. As where as feminine energy is attached with kinda the opposite of that as being somewhat of a peacemaker. So if two guys fight it would be more accepted because in a twisted way, that’s what the expectation is for them being in the role of a masculine as it would be taken differently between two feminines because of what’s attached with being in our feminine energy. I also really love these conversations ♥️ you both are so knowledgeable. I admire your candor & wisdom ✨. Sending loveee ♥️

"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it" Proverbs 4:23. Josh was saying a lot of what i was thinking on that forgiveness topic! that's exactly how i know i have forgiven someone, is if when i think about that person i no longer feel anything.. nothing bad nothing good. Praying for them was a big one for me also, another way i know i have forgiven someone is when i pray for their blessings! i use to find it so hard to forgive i was becoming bitter, and that bitterness was changing my character in a negative way. its so much easier said than done! but when i started to become aware of what not forging was doing to me, it became easier to forgive. That doesn't mean allowing people to continue to treat you badly, it just means simply; forgive, and moving on without those people if need be, with no hate or bitterness in your heart.

In terms of forgiveness I'm with Josh on forgiving for yourself and with God. However, maybe it's the Virgo in me but I stand and will always stand with I forgive you but if what I'm forgiving you for is toxic to my mental, emotional, spiritual and physical health. Then I'm going to pray for you and let you go. If I see you on the streets I'll say "Hello" and keep it pushing. Life is too short for me to harbor that frustration and/or hurt towards someone I don't even f with like that anymore. And it's honestly freeing when you forgive and let that person go. Too many people forgive and then they are stuck in these toxic relationships/friendships; God don't want that for you. PROTECT YOUR SPACE.

Love languages it's a whole subject on its own. For me, I show love through acts of service, making someone feel catered towards or protected in some way shape or form. However I feel loved through quality time, simply being around someone I care for. It's very important to figure out what you and your loved need in a relationship, platonic or romantic.

The way I needed this convo right now lol!!! I am struggling to forgive too. But I have a sibling so I know how to let things go. But the way I truly move on and let go is talking things out. Or coming to that common ground of agreeing to disagree. Or just dropping things all together. I also had a skewed view of sisterhood because I only have a brother. So I thought that having female friends that I view as a sister would have the same dynamic. Lol some of them do but some of them don’t. The way guys operate with just letting things go is something rare to find in females. I don’t think Because Isi being an only child plays apart of her not being able to forgive. It’s literally because we are women 😂😂. We will hold on to stuff for a long time until we feel it’s finally time to move on and let things go. Long story short Josh was preaching!! And Isi you are not alone.

Forgiveness is releasing the control ppl have over you. It’s hard because when you factor in accountability, 😮‍💨 you tell yourself, now you KNOW you seen the red flags. It makes it hard to forgive the person because you let yourself down. So in order to “forgive” you also have to admit that you played a part in your hurt. Warning comes before destruction. This isn’t always the case. But When it comes to the unforgiving grudges… it comes true
