It was released in 2004 and featured Yugi and his friends facing off against Anubis, the Egyptian god of death. Sounds epic, right? Well, not exactly. In this video, I revisit this movie and point out all the confusing plot holes, inconsistencies, and weird moments that make it hard to follow and enjoy. Season 4 of the Dub aired in the US around when this movie came out on DVD. It was interesting getting two Kaiba vs. Pegasus duels around the same time (although in Season 4, it was just Allister posing as Pegasus for an episode).

Anubis had a Digimon worth evolution.
Another thing to remember is that anime and ocg are completely different most of the time, so actually Anubis move are legit.
I like to imagine a world where we got a whole lot more Yugioh movies if this one performed way better.
We would've gotten more generic plots like what capsule monsters was.
Basically it'd become like DBZ movies where the side characters don't matter (tristan, tea), the rival tries and fails (kaiba) and only the main hero and/or his immediate mentee can win (yami/joey).
This was my introduction to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Animé on Sky Movies, I started proper with GX reet after back when ITV used to put Animé like this on in the morning! I miss those days... it's where I first saw Digimon and Pokémon as well, also on ITV! Yeah, when did that channel stop being so great? Ah, well, at least it still has All Elite Wrestling Rampage, Dynamite and Collision... replacing a revamped World of Sport Wrestling... Okay, ITV is pretty fecking weird, change my mind!

Obelisk is shown to be able to activate his effect even during the opponent's turn. During the last turn of Marik vs Yami Yugi Obelisk activated his effect during Marik's turn so, yeah that's legit. Would be more interesting if you have covered the original subtitled movie since the shit that 4kids puts most of the time makes no sense.

Still my favorite ygo movie for simple reason being this is Atem at his strongest even without his past knowledge,this Atem is ridiculously op.
What drags the movie down for me is weak villain and inclusion of pyramid of light in Kaiba's deck,wish he dueled without it and came with a proper plan to beat the God cards,otherwise hoping we get another movie like this but unlikely.

Shining Dragon did go to the graveyard. He used the effect to try to destroy the pyramid of light. It failed because Anubis prevented it. Yugi figured Kaiba had something facedown to bring back the gods after destroying the pyramid that’s how he knew to activate return from the different dimension using his spell. It was able to bring back the god cards because Yugi was able to destroy the pyramid of light with shining dragon after his friends weakened its power.
