I was around 10 years old when this ad first came out on TV. No matter where you were when this came on everyone would stop to watch it and then smile. I think it's one of the best commercials ever made. I love that Mad Men ended with this.
Cindy K I was 11 when this aired, and remember it well! A couple of years ago, I met this British guy who said that his mom was one of the young singers in this commercial...she had just celebrated her 75th birthday....such a beautiful thing!
This and the Mean Joe Greene commercial were the two best soda commercials. Now I cannot even get a real soda! Just this high fructose corn garbage that taste foul and leaves a film on your teeth.
I just finished the Mad Men series and I loved the ending. Realism capitulated in the life of an unhappy man who perhaps can turn it all around. Reminds me of my father whom I love very much and at this moment proud of his sacrifice and hard work. He never did get to enjoy his life but I won't make that same mistake. God Bless you papa.
Yes...Mad Men's ending was more than I could have imagined. My thoughts exactly that Don ended it on the highest note. It brought back to me all of the great memories that Mad Men always reminded me of during my youth.
I was 8 when this came out. I will always remember this commercial as one of the top in my fading memory bank, along with the Oscar Mayer bologna commercial!
I'd like to see this redone with these same people now, whoever is still alive. That would be fun to see. Though I'm not a Coke fan, this is one of the best commercials ever, and great ending to Don's and Peggy's journey. Bravo, Mad Men!
I was hating the whole Don Draper hippie traveling the country storyline...I mean really hating it and disappointed. But then...that ending? OMFG! Awesome.
Jeff R I was right there with you. I was even watching the clock thinking...really? We have 20 minutes to tie this all together. NO! Don't introduce ANOTHER guy telling his story... and then...Bang!
Regarding Diana...and not to get too New-Age about this (I am so NOT a New-Age type person.) I think the whole Diana thing was that he was both reaching back to capture the past (Diana was a cheap Rachel/Sylvia knock-off) and trying to SAVE another version of himself without doing the tougher work of facing and fixing himself.
100,000 people wrote to coke thanking them for the ad. Think about that. the pop version of the song not only became a hit single, the sheet music was the bestseller of the decade, sung by every chorus in every school in America .. Coke donated all the song profits to UNICEF. This song and ad seems saccharine now but at the time was seen as a healing antidote to the pain left by the 60s. A hopefilled coda to a new age if you will.
An ad similar today could go a long way to healing this country as long as it's kept non partisan and sung by middle America the people who feed the coasts
Jonah Carpenter Coke was a McCann account. No way in hell they would work with Joan (or vice versa) after the sexual harassment payout. Either Don called Peggy (or Roger) or he went back to McCann.
i'll miss mad men. it never underestimated its audience's ability to be subtle and understand the nuances. bravo to the ending of a magnificent magnum opus.
Don Drapper's smile at the end wasn't just about finding the inner peace, it also meant he just found the idea for coca cola commercial and gone back to work. Because that's what he does best.
My mom worked for Pepsi in 1971, where this Coke commercial really blew everybody out of the water. They had study groups on it, and my mom brought home some of the materials including a vinyl record that had a million outtakes from Coke on it as they worked on recording various versions of that song. I had a record collection of three: Elvis, the Beatles and Coke. Played 'em to death. I'd love to buy the world a Coke, this brings back so many fond memories!
I was 8 years old when this commercial came. It was great then and still is, better then the crappy coke commercials today. I drink Coke and always will. Drinking one now, Vanilla Coke
I was 4 in 1971 so I cannot pretend to remember it at the time. Add to that that I was livivng near Montreal in a french speaking environnement. But I am certain to not make a mistake when I say that I remember that tune in a Coca-Cola Christmas ad with the big Christmas tree in New York at the end of the 70's beginning of the 80's on American television.
I have one of the original 45 recordings of this song by The New Seekers. 1971. Flip side has 1. Little Bit of Sunshine :60 2: It's the real Thing :60 It also says on the record "This is not to be played on the air." # 1 song says Copyright @1971 The Coca-Cola Company "2 song says Copyright @ 1969 The Coca-Cola Company
I think I love coke the best because of that commercial. My dad hated the hippies in it but he always only drank coke cola 😅😅😅😅. I wanted the soda and the hippie chicks 🐣 😃
@TheIzkool Imported coke from Mexico is becoming a lot more available these days, it's in a glass bottle with cane sugar, you can find it at almost any wal mart or buy it in cases from Costco or Sam's Club.
The song, written for Coca-Cola by Roger Cook, Roger Greenway, William Backer [representing Coke's ad agency, McCann-Erickson] and Billy Davis, was introduced at the time this commercial first appeared, 'Leonie'- in the summer of 1971...forty years ago. It would cost a fortune to refilm it as a "retromercial" today.
I have the sister version of this commercial in Spanish which was partially reshot in the opening and partially reedited and featuring also text in Spanish. I have the soundtrack coming from the original tapes.
About 20-25 years after this one, Coke remade it with the grandkids and a goodly number of the original kids on the same hilltop, same song. Anyone know if that one's on here or not?
Wow....the man responsible for the deaths of his brother and Lane Pryce (among other faults) also created one of my favorite childhood ads....amazing.You were untouchable as an ad man,Don.I think I'll have a Rum & Coke in your memory.
During Passover (Jewish Holiday) you will find a lot of the plastic bottles switch over to cane sugar. They will have different colored caps so you can easily identify them (Yellow Caps) Glass cokes can be bought in the US, although they will still be mage with HFCS. I often grab a few at my local supermarket (McCafferies) before the weekend. Lastly, you can always go for the Mexican cokes. They are in a glass bottle AND use cane sugar, although they are a bit harder to get (in my area at least)
I was 13 when this commercial aired...and I thought this was so cool...it made you feel like the world was your oyster and if you put your mind to it you could do ANYTHING...wow...how wrong can one person be...
Don. Come home.
*Don Draper*, you'll be missed.
I was around 10 years old when this ad first came out on TV. No matter where you were when this came on everyone would stop to watch it and then smile. I think it's one of the best commercials ever made. I love that Mad Men ended with this.

I don't like it. Co-opting the counter-culture to sell more product. It's cheap and lazy, fitting from such a scummy company as Coca-Cola.
This and the Mean Joe Greene commercial were the two best soda commercials. Now I cannot even get a real soda! Just this high fructose corn garbage that taste foul and leaves a film on your teeth.
All seven seasons of "Mad Men" turned out to be the origin story for this ad.
Now Im going to get emotional everytime I hear this. We will miss you Mad Men.
I understand that you're just trying to sell me a product, but this always manages to hit me in all the feels.
This needs to be remade in 2021 as a 50 year anniversary omg
Goodbye Don,thank you for keeping us company for over 7 years. And this commercial is one of the greatest .
it's Don's commercial. The girl at the front desk at the retreat is in this commercial
Alan A good catch! They do look very similar.
And it was filmed in Italy, Betty's favorite place :)
Jessica Rodriguez wow you're totally right.
Goodbye Mad Men will never forget this show
THIS IS HOW MAD MEN ENDED
NEVAR 4GET
I just finished the Mad Men series and I loved the ending. Realism capitulated in the life of an unhappy man who perhaps can turn it all around. Reminds me of my father whom I love very much and at this moment proud of his sacrifice and hard work. He never did get to enjoy his life but I won't make that same mistake. God Bless you papa.
Cat's in the Cradle
They were happy times... with so much life to live!
Thanks for the memories...
happy times? Vietnam war still on? its the real thing
Don Draper's last work...
CptLoonee nah man Peggy
CptLoonee This guy knew it all along!
CptLoonee You were right!
Oh snap!!!
You know what the sick part is? I just went to my fridge to get a coke. Curse you Don Draper!
I still remember this commercial and song on TV when I was a very small kid. Wow what a memory.
I am guessing Mad Men ends with this Ad in some way...
How could you possibly know that?
Jonathan Meyers but did you make any money off of this guess
Jonathan Meyers Woah...
Jonathan Meyers You should've placed a bet
Jonathan Meyers Mathew Weiner?
I was 9 years old and still remember it.
this is the best coke commercial ever, absolutely ageless
goodbye, madmen.
A successful ad when you want to see this again and you get goosebumps.
I miss Mad Men so much... :(
my left ear enjoyed this
This video is going to have 1 million hits within the next hour.
***** Mad Men was never a show that garnered massive ratings.
Linkjoy123 ***** Close to 100k more views now. Maybe by the end of the week
trha2222 Of course its relative. How about comparing it to other cable television shows?
***** Wrong!!!!
trha2222 That the video failed to obtain the stated amount of views ya dumbass.
I'd like to see this redone with these same people now, whoever is still alive. That would be fun to see. Though I'm not a Coke fan, this is one of the best commercials ever, and great ending to Don's and Peggy's journey. Bravo, Mad Men!
They actually did remake it in 1991. It played during the Super Bowl and featured the same people ( and their kids ) on the same hilltop.
My favorite ever commercial, even loved the remake years later. Really wished they would show it Christmas time like they used to.
Beh. I didn't like the angle with 'Diana the waitress'. So much of this season on her. Thought there was a legit story there somewhere.
Jeff R For a few terrifying seconds there I thought they were going to fade to black / cut to credits with Don hugging that crying dude.
Jeff R agree-i hated it a first but you couldn't beat that ending!
100,000 people wrote to coke thanking them for the ad.
Think about that.

Produced by Joan P. Holloway
Ethan Radd No way. She got her payout from McCann for the sexual harrassment mess and was starting her own production company.
PinecrestNova You don't think, just maybe should could have used that PRODUCTION company to PRODUCE the ad for Don?
Jonah Carpenter Coke was a McCann account. No way in hell they would work with Joan (or vice versa) after the sexual harassment payout. Either Don called Peggy (or Roger) or he went back to McCann.
Jeffrey Florence oh that's true. Didn't think of it that way.
Thanks Don!
Who can ever forget the great hippy Coke commercial 😅😅😊😊😊
Hippies are better than haters.
I dont get how people could not like this. Especially at that time..all this generation wanted was peace and love.
i'll miss mad men. it never underestimated its audience's ability to be subtle and understand the nuances. bravo to the ending of a magnificent magnum opus.
I can't forget that coca cola commercial first sung on black and white TV in mid 60's, ,such a beautiful song .
Don Drapper's smile at the end wasn't just about finding the inner peace, it also meant he just found the idea for coca cola commercial and gone back to work.
Because that's what he does best.
My mom worked for Pepsi in 1971, where this Coke commercial really blew everybody out of the water. I remember this song/commercial when I was for or five and that was in 1977 or so. I still wish they had commercials and catchy songs like that now.
Mad Men... Best show of all time!
This commercial came out when I was about two, and I pretty much grew up with my mom singing and whistling the song.
Tranquility of the seasons, happy holidays 🎉🎉❤❤🎉
Miss Blankenship. Ken Cosgrove tap dancing. Cooper's post-death song and dance. And everything Sterling ever said. Thee best show ever!
I was 8 years old when this commercial came. It was great then and still is, better then the crappy coke commercials today. I drink Coke and always will. Drinking one now, Vanilla Coke
So glad they're sending this commercial on norwegian tv! Me and my friend couldn't stop singing this yesterday! Such a happy-song :D
I was 9 in 71 and still remember every word of this. only 53 years ago.
You get to relive the Hilltop Coke commercial on You Tube. It's the feeling of being young at the time and wanting to change the world with a song. :)
Thank you Don for the commercial
I was 4 in 1971 so I cannot pretend to remember it at the time. Add to that that I was livivng near Montreal in a french speaking environnement. Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
--Don Draper
no volume...!
one of my fave commercial back in 70's!
Elizabeth still has the 45 record of the original recording. Her Mom sent away for it back when the song first came out.
This brings back sooooo many memories.
I have one of the original 45 recordings of this song by The New Seekers. 1971. Flip side has 1. Little Bit of Sunshine :60
2: It's the real Thing :60
It also says on the record "This is not to be played on the air."
# 1 song says Copyright @1971 The Coca-Cola Company
"2 song says Copyright @ 1969 The Coca-Cola Company
Good work Don
Perfect ending. Great job Peggy! Coke...the real thing.
Happy 50th Anniversary to this Coke ad!
Great advertisement for my favourite refreshment
Don't feel lonely, I was only 8 in 71, but I remembered when this commercial came out.
You'll be sorely missed Mad Men.
Great seeing that one again! We were on the right track in the 70's and got derailed in the 80's.
this commercial definitely would have gone viral if the 70s had the world wide web
? did they not have superbowls in the '70s? i don't know anything about sports
It was a wonderful ad, spoke to us at the time. Yes, we are in our 60's now, but we had a helluva ride from then till now!
A fine finish to Mad Men-this song was real blast from the past growing up in the '70s!
Mad Men sent me. All hail Don Draper!
Christina Aguilera - Fighter
Thanks Don
I have the sister version of this commercial in Spanish which was partially reshot in the opening and partially reedited and featuring also text in Spanish. I have the soundtrack coming from the original tapes.
I saw this commercial film when I was young !
Bravo Weiner
I love this song! It's so catchy!
If only dreams came true, pray to your inner soul for peace in the world ! and air this on any giving day any where and watch the responce!
After 30 plus years years this is the best marketing song ever
This brings back so many memories...love it!
My dad’s cousin Ben McPeek wrote this song! ❤️❤️❤️
I wonder if Coca Cola will re-release this song on iTunes now thanks to Mad Men
About 20-25 years after this one, Coke remade it with the grandkids and a goodly number of the original kids on the same hilltop, same song. Anyone know if that one's on here or not?
Looks like the copyright cops have struck again! Over a fucking commercial......
Don was crying while hugging the guy, for giving him an idea for a commercial. There was a Budweiser spot based on that.
Wow....the man responsible for the deaths of his brother and Lane Pryce (among other faults) also created one of my favorite childhood ads....amazing.You were untouchable as an ad man,Don.I think I'll have a Rum & Coke in your memory.
DECEMBER 15 2024. THE WORLD NEEDS THIS
A lion may be wounded or even killed. But he never accepts defeat. Here's to Don Draper, a legend of the industry
The ad is 40 years ago...make a remake now !!!
Of course, if this commercial was done today, it would be in every language except English.
What a great iconic add .
So old, the audio only plays on my left speaker....not even stereo, that's old!!!
remember watching this on Scottiish television a long long time ago its a classic
During Passover (Jewish Holiday) you will find a lot of the plastic bottles switch over to cane sugar. They will have different colored caps so you can easily identify them (Yellow Caps)
Glass cokes can be bought in the US, although they will still be mage with HFCS. I often grab a few at my local supermarket (McCafferies) before the weekend.

Happy 125th anniversary, Coca Cola!!! You are a great drink.
When I was a kid I loved this ad and I wanted to learn the song so I could sing it; especially with those people on the ad. (I was 4 or so)
I was 13 when this commercial aired...and I thought this was so cool...it made you feel like the world was your oyster and if you put your mind to it you could do ANYTHING...wow...how wrong can one person be...
I get goosebumps every time I watch this!
Bill Bracker RIP.
Everyone in this commercial is over 60 years old now, weird to think. But it's a lovely commercial.
Ironic that such an iconic commercial originally aired in the greatest year in human history.
@avq5
If I am ever in Atlanta, I will be sure to take advantage of this! Thank you for the information!
Mad Men finale was perfect. Thank you Matthew Weiner!
we will miss you Mad Men! Thanks Don
