The belgish character “Tintin”, created by the great Hergé is one of the best known cartoon figures around the European continent. Similar to Asterix & Obelix his legacy is still continuing. The American audience might know him from the fine Spielberg adaptation.
Though there were two live action films from 1961 and 1965, the first full-length cartoon adaptation would debut in 1969 with “Le Temple Du Soleil” (Prisoners Of The Sun). Here Tintin and company try to clear the mystery about a mummy that was brought to civilization and causes everybody associated with its find being cursed and out of his mind (for me as a youngster pretty scary). Filmmakers took the job seriously and the movie comforts you with an exciting plot and animated cinematography of the Peruvian country - a true adventure, not only for children.
The second cinematic cartoon adaptation entitled “Le Lac Aux Requins” (The Lake Of Sharks) was released in 1972 and takes place in the fictional (but no less beautiful) eastern european country Syldavia. Tintins friend Professor Calculus is once again developing new technologies in the calming landscape of Shark Lake but some of his achievements mysteriously disappear and dangerous accidents take place… coincidences? Here again we get served beautiful cinematography and an exciting plot (sometimes you get the feeling of watching an animated James Bond).
Both of these animated features received splendid musical treatment by composer François Rauber. He was best known for his very successful role as arranger for french chanson-star Jacques Brel, who provided the two songs for “Prisoners Of The Sun”. Unfortunately, not much of Rauber’s music from the movies was released (what a shame), so we will feature what we have of these wonderful soundtracks for both animated movies here. Enjoy!

Beautiful music but you had me at Jacques Brel. Most unusual and unexpected. The voice of Lucie Dolène is wonderful. I'm glad to hear Rauber's music for the first time. Thanks Fred!

Hello,Fred! Two small classics of " dessin animé, successful all over the world. " Le Temple Du Soleil " has typical characteristic of French music, such as rhythmic song section, cheerful music for brass and strings, a touch of comedy and another of melancholy ( sung by Lucie Dolène ). On the other hand, " Le Lac Au Requins " is absolutely adorable, with a strong folk accent ( arrangements and voice of Marie & Jacques Vinitzki ), comic action and a title theme that is a masterpiece! Thanks and bye!!

    Thanks Fred🙂👍🏻
I know very little about Tintin and the other characters. As a child I must have seen some skits on TV.
Research: On the walls of the center of Brussels murals depicting comic episodes of Tintin appear in several places.
Tintin was the theme of the games of the episode of “Games Without Borders” which took place in 1978 in Rochefort, in Belgium.
Curiosity: The new versions of the suites that you sometimes make, do you do them because you find more complete soundtracks and feel the need to renew, or because you are ordered to do so?

      Hello friend,
regarding the revisits of some soundtracks: the first thing is that I don't like some of my edits I did (sometimes over 10) years ago. Bad audio, bad editing, bad everything. Usually this goes hand in hand with newer releases of the music, as you mentioned. They are often expanded and usually come with (greatly) remastered sound. This makes a "deal" for me to revisit some scores, as I could give you and everybody else a way better and deserved listening experience - at least, I hope that I achieve that. :-)
      Fred
