The '90s really were a great time to be a kid enjoying Halloween. Halloween of 1997 was probably my favorite of all Halloweens, because it was a Friday night and my parents let me have some friends spend the night after trick-or-treating. We stayed up late watching AMC's Monsterfest programming (I believe that was its first year) and ate way too much candy.
Thank you for sharing this. It sounds like a warm and happy memory from that awesome time. Some of my favorite memories are from sleep overs with friends. Add in a night of trick or treating and you’ve got a perfect recipe. Also… love that you caught Monsterfest on its first year.
Halloween will always be one of my favorite holidays. Whether you were trick or treating as a kid or decorating and scaring as an adult. It felt like it was a holiday for all ages. My favorite memory was watching hocus pocus or other shows and movies with Halloween themes; while also dressing up. As an adult I do a Halloween themed karate classes and watch some Halloween themed movies with the Mrs. 😁 Anywho, there isn’t as much charm or passion for it like there used to be. Honestly pretty sad. Enjoy what you can when October comes by though. PS. Home Depot is a good place for some cool Halloween decorations. Just ignore the Christmas stuff down the hall. 👀

You are right! “Back in the 90s, the Halloween spirit found you!” I was born in 1989 so most of my childhood memories of Halloween were from the mid 1990s through the early 2000’s and man was it was a fun time. There was a lot more trust and an actual sense of community back then. That’s what I miss the most. Halloween decorations were cute and cozy.. with the occasional gory limb or zombie. Cable television really set the mood during the month of October. Halloween commercials & specials were creative! Good thing we have UA-cam which is our closest solution to a Time machine! I miss the Halloween commercials, the blocks of horror movie reruns, every tv show did their annual Halloween episode and a lot of people made their own costumes. Now it’s “buy a slutty costume for $120” There was a more wholesome and festive vibe to Halloween back in the 90s that feels different now
I remember a lot of these things from the 90s, especially Eerie, Indiana! You bring up a good point that Halloween found us back then, which made it more fun to be apart of it and was more communal. There was an excitement around the entire night and all the movies to watch during that time. We still have a excitement around Halloween but it takes more effort to look for it.

I wonder if the networks still have those full broadcasts locked away somewhere. That would be great to get a hold of and, like you said, at least show our kids what it was like. Hell, even just for us relive it and enjoy.
We weren’t allowed to celebrate Halloween for religious reasons but my parents always got us candy and I loved staying up watching all of the classic episodes. Most Halloween episodes were usually about going to a costume petty but the best episodes were the ones that were unique like the Boy Meets World, Family Matters & the Suite Life episode which isn’t from the 90’s but close enough lol
There’s something special about eating candy and watching those Halloween specials when you’re a kid. I loved the Boy Meets World and Family Matters Halloween specials. Stevil and Carlsbad puppets were great! And Boy meets world episode where it’s a slasher vibe at the school. Good stuff.

I was such a wimp back in my childhood but now that I enjoy scary movies now, it’s been really fun experiencing Halloween in a new way!! That being said, the things I did enjoy were the scary books like stories to tell in the dark. Those drawings are HAUNTING!!!! Then AND now!

Yes! I should’ve also mentioned that he directed some of the best episodes of the series in my opinion: “foreverware” “the retainer” “the losers” and “heart on a chain”. So good. Also saw Small Soldiers again recently with my son and we loved it. Remember seeing that one in theaters.

I live in Ohio& the Walmart's out here have lots of Halloween cereals.Our Lowes, Home Depots, Michael's, Joannes and Walmarts have large selections of Halloween decor. The Good Wills out here are the same though when it comes to Halloween stuff sadly. And It's so ironic watching this because just last week I had my daughter start watching Eerie Indiana and turned her into a fan!😄 Man I miss those great 90s childhood Halloweens and the awesome commercials!🤔😔

I love Halloween now because I think people get mad creative with decorations and costumes. A lot more options. But it is true I barely see any Halloween specials or commercials on TV. That was a huge part of the joy of Halloween. I don’t think trick or treating was really better back then though. I went to the same neighborhood I went to on Halloween when I was a kid--that neighborhood goes all out now!

It was pushed far back into the shadows by the popularity of shows like Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark. It's hardly included on compilations on Nostalgic Compilation vlogs of memorable 1990s horror shows made for kids. I don't see any home media releases for this show and it doesn't seem to be available on streaming platforms. One of my favorite episodes from this show was the one with the Tupperware products that enchants the town's people's minds.
So true. I love the Tupperware episode too. Probably my favorite. Also like the one where the kid can hear what dogs are saying. Supremely underrated series. I bought the series on Amazon digital earlier this year. I’ve never seen any physical media for it either which is dumb.
Watching “Its the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” always did and will get me excited for October. These days I recommend Bob’s Burgers Halloween episodes, they definitely give me the fall halloween cozies 🙂↕️

Yeah man the 90’s Halloween was the best, even my old Neighborhood , every house was decorated, and there was that one house that didn’t and will never give out candy. The commercials, Halloween specials was everything, I rewatch my favorite shows but it’s not the same. Every year the first thing I put on is “Ernest Scared stupid” , it’s like a tradition haha. Michael’s does have a HUGE selection of Halloween, it’s more decor type stuff, but you’re much too late in the season for that store. They start putting out the Halloween in July so it’s pretty picked over now. I ALSO have all 3 of the Scary Stories books! I don’t have a favourite volume but I always remember that the Harold the Scarecrow story was the one that scared me the most

Another epic video! Yeah the 90s was amazing. I remember how much fun it was dressing up for halloween as a kid and going trick or treating. Loved watching Are you afraid of the dark and goosebumps. Some of those old episodes still hold up like the Haunted mask or ghastly grinner.

I was born in 1987 and I grew up in London. I never went trick-or-treating as our neighbourhood was too dangerous (or so I've been told). But as a small boy, there was at least one compensation: we would either go to a party organised by someone else or organise our own. Sometimes, there would even be fireworks! Why? Because in Britain, we're familiar with not only Halloween but also Guy Fawkes' Night (which normally takes place just five days after Halloween). The story of the latter is as follows: in 1605, Guy Fawkes attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament and to this day, there are fireworks (as I've already said) and also a bonfire, and a mannequin representing Mr. Fawkes is thrown onto the fire.
You’re awesome! What a great video… makes me nostalgic for my 90’s childhood. Generally, people are more distrustful of one another than we were back then. I feel, personally, that the disconnect is more by design than we realize but we also have less shared experiences (such as radio, TV and even music). With certain political happenings looming scarier than the spirit of Halloween could compete with, we ended up with a pretty washed holiday this year. I do wonder if we can ever, as the next generation up at bat, recreate some spirit for today’s youth to draw some memories from. With less home owners of our age group and general distrust amongst the public, I hope it doesn’t happen entirely as a coping mechanism but I’ll sure take it if it does. Thanks for your trip into my happier times, bud.

It's scary what's become of Halloween. Great video, you brought back a lot of tv memories. I'll always remember the year when it was determined I was now too old to go Trick or Treating.
Halloween was kinda banned at my school...even in the 90's. Most teachers wouldn't let you wear costumes. A few would, but masks were banned for “safety reasons”. But teachers most would tell you on October 30th to leave your costume at home. If you showed up in a costume, you BETTER have regular clothes on under it. I remember my second grade teacher who already had a short fuse and should not have been allowed to be a teacher having a complete adult temper tantrum when a girl showed up to class in a pink Power Ranger costume because she told us the day before NOT to come in costumes. By third grade, the new principal announced on the 30th that ALL kids (and even teachers) could come to school in costumes. The teacher seemed SO annoyed because she couldn’t enforce no costumes. But it was a very small Conservative town in a red state and a lot of people believed celebrating Halloween was a form of devil worship. I wonder if that had something to do with it.

in my city Halloween is polarizing. i cant as fuck pay more than 20 bucks for a decoration so i don't go to big box retailers. the decorations are gone from home depot by the first of October so only diehard fans with big bank accounts can buy that junk. but it looks trashy anyway. we used to have the same old decorations. we used to just hand make them and keep them and as they aged they looked better. all you need is 5 dollars worth of candy (even the good stuff) because you're only getting less than 10 trick or treaters a night anyway (the rest is all yours muahaha). costumes were always hand made and when all else fails or you hate kids and trick or treaters, the place to be is block parties. like Hollywood i remember they close the street down and its just a mess of drunk people in wicked costumes. Weho has a huge block party crawl too where you needed to take a bus in from miles before covid. the bus was just packed with people in costumes and someone always has a flask somewhere if you're social. As an adult i can safely say Halloween is def for us. but yeah kids can always find things to do if they're not scared of felt spiders. its for them too but damn i looooove block parties in costume. i already have makeup and i buy weird clothing at goodwill by the pound. super cheap. plus so many free old Horror movies. forget the big box and that 300 dollar skeleton at spirit. you know Halloween is never corpo in my book.
The books are so good. It was hard to get a hold of ones that weren’t drastically changed (artwork wise). Yeah I saw the movie. I liked it but felt like it could’ve been even scarier. Wonder if they’ll do a sequel.
Honestly halloween is dying far more quickly than id like to see. I have Halloween shirts i got at Marshalls a year or 2 ago and this year...not a SINGLE DANG HALLOWEEN SHIRT or other things related...so disgraceful...I use them for work and people would be commenting on my shirts as they like them. Christmas decor was already overshadowing Halloween in mid September. I like christmas and all but Halloween hits differently as you can express yourself differently ever year. Sad that its being forgotten about. 😞

Well it was actually celebrated at the time that helped. Halloween was a month long event for everyone. Crazy stuff on TV all month, kids got into it and wanted to do more than go get candy before the sun went down, places actually did fun little events instead of just trunk or treat, oh and we didnt have aa many people offended by everything and trying to suck the fun out of everything (not just Halloween)
People decorating their houses might be dying soon because of kids not going out like we traditionally did back in the days. They go trunk or treating now. that shit is killing treat or tricking.
It's not just they used to put more effort in it, they put their "HEART" in it too, and we felt it. Those products they sold were made by people who also shared our passion for Halloween, and the same can be said for Christmas and other holidays. Yes, companies have always existed for making money, but they used to pay attention to what their costumers wanted; if they gave us something that made us happy we made them happy by buying it; that was a SYMBIOSIS. They hired people who was passionate and enthusiastic for what they sold, people who understood what clients wanted because those people were their clients before they become their employees, and that showed. Nowadays the people they hire are in the business just for the money, they don't even like the product they are supposed to sell, they hate their customers and only care to force their own woke politics in the products... AND IT SHOWS! Oh IT SHOWS!
The 60s and 70s were also a great time to be a kid during Halloween. While not 100% safe (the story of razor blades in apples goes back at least that far), it was much safer than today. And kids could go trick or treating without an adult as long as they stayed in their own neighborhood.
Yeah I was looking up the Razor blade stories and it seems like an urban legend that was spreading during that time. Don’t know if it ever really happened. Hope not. Magical times though back then. To be a kid back then trick or treating without a care in the world 👌👻🎃

@ 06:02 Eerie Indiana is one of those TV shows from the early 90s that rarely gets mentioned by people a few decades later. It was pushed far back into the shadows by the popularity of shows like Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark. It's hardly included on compilations on Nostalgic Compilation vlogs of memorable 1990s horror shows made for kids. I don't see any home media releases for this show and it doesn't seem to be available on streaming platforms. One of my favorite episodes from this show was the one with the Tupperware products that enchants the town's people's minds.
So true. I love the Tupperware episode too. Probably my favorite. Also like the one where the kid can hear what dogs are saying. Supremely underrated series. I bought the series on Amazon digital earlier this year. I’ve never seen any physical media for it either which is dumb.

Yeah man the 90’s Halloween was the best, even my old Neighborhood , every house was decorated, and there was that one house that didn’t and will never give out candy. The commercials, Halloween specials was everything, I rewatch my favorite shows but it’s not the same.
Every year the first thing I put on is “Ernest Scared stupid” , it’s like a tradition haha.

Michael’s does have a HUGE selection of Halloween, it’s more decor type stuff, but you’re much too late in the season for that store. They start putting out the Halloween in July so it’s pretty picked over now. I ALSO have all 3 of the Scary Stories books! I don’t have a favourite volume but I always remember that the Harold the Scarecrow story was the one that scared me the most
Yeah an associate at Michael’s said they had a lot more Halloween town decorations just the week before. I guess ppl knew to get the jump on that. Yeah Harold the Scarecrow mess a great one. I also like the one about the person who cooks meat from the cemetery. This stuff was wonderfully demented wasn’t it?

Another epic video! Yeah the 90s was amazing. I remember how much fun it was dressing up for halloween as a kid and going trick or treating. Loved watching Are you afraid of the dark and goosebumps. Some of those old episodes still hold up like the Haunted mask or ghastly grinner.

I was born in 1987 and I grew up in London. I never went trick-or-treating as our neighbourhood was too dangerous (or so I've been told). But as a small boy, there was at least one compensation: we would either go to a party organised by someone else or organise our own. Sometimes, there would even be fireworks! Why? Because in Britain, we're familiar with not only Halloween but also Guy Fawkes' Night (which normally takes place just five days after Halloween). The story of the latter is as follows: in 1605, Guy Fawkes attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament and to this day, there are fireworks (as I've already said) and also a bonfire, and a mannequin representing Mr. Fawkes is thrown onto the fire.

You’re awesome! What a great video… makes me nostalgic for my 90’s childhood. Generally, people are more distrustful of one another than we were back then. I feel, personally, that the disconnect is more by design than we realize but we also have less shared experiences (such as radio, TV and even music). With certain political happenings looming scarier than the spirit of Halloween could compete with, we ended up with a pretty washed holiday this year. I do wonder if we can ever, as the next generation up at bat, recreate some spirit for today’s youth to draw some memories from. With less home owners of our age group and general distrust amongst the public, I hope it doesn’t happen entirely as a coping mechanism but I’ll sure take it if it does. Thanks for your trip into my happier times, bud.

There’s a real good Nick at Nite channel that shows old Halloween episodes with the commercials.
Halloween was kinda banned at my school...even in the 90's. Most teachers wouldn't let you wear costumes. A few would, but masks were banned for “safety reasons”. But teachers most would tell you on October 30th to leave your costume at home. If you showed up in a costume, you BETTER have regular clothes on under it. I remember my second grade teacher who already had a short fuse and should not have been allowed to be a teacher having a complete adult temper tantrum when a girl showed up to class in a pink Power Ranger costume because she told us the day before NOT to come in costumes.
By third grade, the new principal announced on the 30th that ALL kids (and even teachers) could come to school in costumes. The teacher seemed SO annoyed because she couldn’t enforce no costumes. But it was a very small Conservative town in a red state and a lot of people believed celebrating Halloween was a form of devil worship. I wonder if that had something to do with it.

in my city Halloween is polarizing. i cant as fuck pay more than 20 bucks for a decoration so i don't go to big box retailers. the decorations are gone from home depot by the first of October so only diehard fans with big bank accounts can buy that junk. but it looks trashy anyway. we used to have the same old decorations. we used to just hand make them and keep them and as they aged they looked better. all you need is 5 dollars worth of candy (even the good stuff) because you're only getting less than 10 trick or treaters a night anyway (the rest is all yours muahaha). costumes were always hand made and when all else fails or you hate kids and trick or treaters, the place to be is block parties. like Hollywood i remember they close the street down and its just a mess of drunk people in wicked costumes. Weho has a huge block party crawl too where you needed to take a bus in from miles before covid. the bus was just packed with people in costumes and someone always has a flask somewhere if you're social. As an adult i can safely say Halloween is def for us. but yeah kids can always find things to do if they're not scared of felt spiders. its for them too but damn i looooove block parties in costume. i already have makeup and i buy weird clothing at goodwill by the pound. super cheap. plus so many free old Horror movies. forget the big box and that 300 dollar skeleton at spirit. you know Halloween is never corpo in my book.

The books are so good. It was hard to get a hold of ones that weren’t drastically changed (artwork wise). Yeah I saw the movie. I liked it but felt like it could’ve been even scarier. Wonder if they’ll do a sequel.
Honestly halloween is dying far more quickly than id like to see. I have Halloween shirts i got at Marshalls a year or 2 ago and this year...not a SINGLE DANG HALLOWEEN SHIRT or other things related...so disgraceful...I use them for work and people would be commenting on my shirts as they like them. Christmas decor was already overshadowing Halloween in mid September. I like christmas and all but Halloween hits differently as you can express yourself differently ever year. Sad that its being forgotten about. 😞

Halloween was a month long event for everyone. Crazy stuff on TV all month, kids got into it and wanted to do more than go get candy before the sun went down, places actually did fun little events instead of just trunk or treat, oh and we didnt have aa many people offended by everything and trying to suck the fun out of everything (not just Halloween)

It's not just they used to put more effort in it, they put their "HEART" in it too, and we felt it. Those products they sold were made by people who also shared our passion for Halloween, and the same can be said for Christmas and other holidays. Yes, companies have always existed for making money, but they used to pay attention to what their costumers wanted; if they gave us something that made us happy we made them happy by buying it; that was a SYMBIOSIS. They hired people who was passionate and enthusiastic for what they sold, people who understood what clients wanted because those people were their clients before they become their employees, and that showed. Nowadays the people they hire are in the business just for the money, they don't even like the product they are supposed to sell, they hate their customers and only care to force their own woke politics in the products... AND IT SHOWS! Oh IT SHOWS!

The 60s and 70s were also a great time to be a kid during Halloween. While not 100% safe (the story of razor blades in apples goes back at least that far), it was much safer than today. And kids could go trick or treating without an adult as long as they stayed in their own neighborhood.
Yeah I was looking up the Razor blade stories and it seems like an urban legend that was spreading during that time. Don’t know if it ever really happened. Hope not. Magical times though back then. To be a kid back then trick or treating without a care in the world 👌👻🎃
