We didn't have those scanner before 1990s .
    Now much easier.
    JLG the best.
"John Leslie Grove" of Grove Cranes fame.
    We had many cranes.
Ivan go to Manitowoc Cranes in Pine Grove, PA.
Ask about Hirschman LMI computer training school.
You can make a fortune trouble shooting new Crane and or man lift computer control system s.Few can do this well as you do .I did for years on our own machines in NYC .I picked up a JLG code reader tester a few years ago. It actually acutuates each function to test.
Tell owner to cover control box from rains.
New age cranes are like avionics intense.
    Excellent work Thanks.
PS my family escaped from Soviet Union in 1930s.

I remember when vehicles were about 80% mechanical, 20% electronic (rough estimate). If something wasn't working you could usually narrow it down to three possibilities. Fast forward fifty years and you find yourself having to eliminate an overwhelming amount of potential electrical problems (hardware & software) before you bother looking for mechanical issues, and you usually have to have the proper diagnosing equipment (i.e. scanners) to even get started. Wow, have things ever changed!

That is one tidy scanner. Did not expect the problem to be so straightforward and was anticipating deeper waters ahead. @@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics --- I have some friends who are commercial aviation mechanics, they're all bored and counting the years until their retirement. Aviation mechanic's jobs no longer have any challenges, diagnostics are all software and much easier than automotive. Fixing things is purely remove-and-replace, they are encouraged to use the parts cannon approach, nothing, not a single module is serviceable by a mechanic. If somehow a broken wire were detected the mechanic would replace the entire wiring harness or more likely the entire panel or unit, never could they fix a single obviously broken wire. And there are no wiring diagrams, the factory doesn't have them, only the design engineers.

Again, as always, under sized/engineered electrical systems. How that wire broke is amazing, it had no contact with any object but failed due to vibration. • @Graham_Wideman

Those cables are so thin and flexible because they go up the joy stick. If that particular cable broke because of work hardening then it is highly likely to break again fairly quickly as by soldering it you have added rigidity to the cable reducing its flexibility somewhat. However judging by the look of the break it is possible it has been deliberately cut... Perhaps somebody wanted to be sent home early. Suspicious bugger aren’t I. Lol.
Broken cables happen a lot on motor vehicles especially the drivers door (most used) They can set up an awful lot of what I call ‘silly codes’. Nothing making sense. The last one I did was off a Ford Galaxy people carrier. It had a total of twenty five cables running through the hinge. Eight were totally broke, ten were frayed leaving not to many still intact. The shorting between circuits was astronomical as were the fault codes. No wonder it was sent through the auctions.
Good video though. Very handy gadget.

Odd that the wire was visibly broke. Ok, wires can have weak spots in them and go open over time, but usually the insulation stays intact. So I'm guessing that one was nicked or pinched during manufacture and just sat there, waiting to completely fail from day 1.

That is a pretty silly design to be open and exposed like that. You'd think that they'd either wrap it in friction tape or plastic conduit to prevent that. I'm sure that's not the first JLG to have that happen to it. Vehicles in general are creatures of habit, what happens to one generally happens to all.
