Are companions crucial enough from a combat perspective where you are greatly incentivized to have a "balanced" party with 1 mage 1 warrior 1 rogue? or can you omit an entire class entirely from your party and you won't be missing much from a combat perspective?
I heard for "skill denotation" reasons its best to have a balanced party but TBH it doesn't look like the companions base attacks are do much of anything which feels very Guardians of the Galaxy to me.....
Having a warrior for taunting is probably beneficial if playing mage, and as said for combo detonations. But as for actual damage and usefulness, they seem utterly useless and hit with wet noodles and only auto attack if you don’t command them. By the time you’ve killed an entire pack of dark spawn they’re still whittling away at the first one. But yeh, detonations seem to be a main focus in combat here not just auto attacking.
No it doesn't matter. Maybe if you ONLY want to play range then you want someone with taunt. Or you are really bad and need a heal. Other then that every companion has multiple combo abilities.
I watched an Italian guy's stream (he is truly an expert in RPG strategy and stuff like that) and he said that it doesn't matter, you can bring who you want, because you can't really strategize and they cannot die no matter what damage they receive. What would be game of the year? It's been a year of alright games. A lot of good ones, but nothing really standing out. Most of the standouts have been remakes, rereleases, dlc expansions, multiplayer or indie titles. So it very well could be, just given that there's not a lot of steep competition this year. It's biggest competition thus far is metaphor: refantasio, and Warhammer 2. Both of which are niche
I mean it looks overall playable ok. The flat ground gameplay seems a little bit undynamic to me, but the combat flow looks fine. But I can't stand the mobile feeling. For me at least. And I'm not a DA fan except the first one called Origins... I pick it up in the future. Maybe.
Boomstick Gaming's video has more extensive mage gameplay and demonstration. I saw a lot more warrior stuff here, so it just seems each content creator's just spent more time learning certain classes than others - which is entirely understandable considering both personal preference and the limited time available to play the game at the event.
The more I see of this game the more I realize that it is the most lonely of the Dragon Age titles. Yes combat is more complex mechanically, but there's nothing to micromanage anymore. You can't cordinate the skills of your party to inflict devestation, you are just setting yourself up. And something about that just rubs me the wrong way having watched this series develop.
