Good call, liked the side by side and use of Spec 128k version too. Nine times out of ten it's just a single load and audio difference and as a fan of the humble AY chip, I love hearing those old tunes again.
Back then, I played and completed the coin-op as well as the Spectrum and C64 conversions, both good jobs. Never saw the Amstrad one before (well the CPC 464 wasn't exactly the most popular 8-bit home computer system down here) but it seems to be quite well done too. Thanks for the video 👍
@@OGDuffy I managed to finish it with one credit - the second and fifth level were the tougher ones, with swarms of enemies coming out all at once. The last was manageable if you spared a good amount of rockets, especially for the final helicopter. However I had to practice a lot before I was able to do that!
The uzi on the arcade was the coolest thing on an arcade in the 80's. Arnold said da uzi 9 millimeeder in terminator, when he robs the gunshop and kills the owner.
Another great vid on a great game 😀👍. I’d only played arcade and speccy back in the day but that cpc464 version was 😍. Amazing what developers did to get as much out of the hardware as possible. Cheers!
The CPC version surprised me too, had not looked at it until this video so a very pleasant change 😁 Thanks for the support matey, really appreciate it !
Hi Charlie thanks for commenting and your opinions matey 😎 If we all agreed world would be a boring place 😉 All three conversions were brilliant, wish I could say the same for next weeks VS video !!!! 😁
Hi David, thanks for the support 😀 I can add Ninja Warriors for a future VS video matey 😉 Glad your enjoying my content matey, new VS video dropping tomorrow PM 😎
Thanks for watching and commenting Will 😉 Personally felt all three conversions were really good, did you prefer C64 version or Speccy over the Amstrad?
@@OGDuffy think overall amstrad the best just to me was running too fast that spoilt it. C64 was a little slow lacking any detail in the sprites due to being chunky.the speccy was very detailed and great consideringb the hardware
Another great video mate. I have never got off the first level on the C64 with a joystick as the crosshair just doesn't seem to move right and accelerates the longer you push the stick which makes it overly hard and like you mentioned enemies are hard to hit - think they made the hit boxes a bit small. Also looks a bit washed out compared to other games but the sequel Op Thunderbolt is more colorful - maybe one for another vid. I do have the Neos mouse for the C64 and it plays a whole lot better but hit boxes are just as bad but at least you can get quite far on it with a mouse. Love it on Spectrum and Amstrad and do agree with the Amstrad being best version but the Speccy is also impressive with smooth scrolling and no clash with any of the graphics. I have this on Atari ST also and it is nigh on arcade perfect except for the Uzi!
Me too, to be fair it was a machine that passed me by back in the day. But the colour palette does seem rather good, this was evident in particular with the Barbarian VS video 😎
The Amstrad CPC had the same resolution for colour as for pixels. Every pixel in the screen could have its own individual colour regardless of the colour of adjacent pixels. That was huge. No other mainstream 8-bit computer had that capabilities until the MSX2 came out in 1985 in Japan, one year later than the Amstrad (the BBC Micro was a fantastic computer but it was not released in continental Europe). Of course the Commodore 64 has its own fair share of technical strenghs compared to the Amstrad, but in graphic capabilities, when it came out, the Amstrad was the king of the 8-bit realm.
@@OGDuffy thanks for all your entertaining work this year - especially the vs videos. Always great moving back 30 years from the modern world to look back at a time that most on your channel are very fond of.
amstrad cpc version is technically a masterpiece, I agree with you. but in my opinion best conversion is speccy, because c64 is too blocky for sprites and too flat for the background, amstrad cpc version has a background pattern that is too bright and invasive, which confuses and tires the sight. Some palette choices, then, make difficult to see enemies, for example paratroopers and helicopters passing in front of roofs. spectrum version is very sharp, smooth and playable. but I agree, amstrad version is a masterpiece, close to a miracle.
Thanks for watching and commenting ! Great opinions matey 😉 The Amstrad version surprised me as didnt play it back in the day, but the graphics on the Spectrum were very sharp indeed. A great conversion on all systems 😎
Great vid OG. Love the side-by-side comparison. As a C64 die-hard, have to say that it does look a bit washed out next to the vibrant CPC effort. Never played it on 8-bit, but seem to remember the multi-disk Amiga version load times/disk swapping being absolutely brutal

The side by side is a great addition to these videos 👍
Thanks Ian, will use the side by side again when its a good conversion on all systems 😉
Appreciate the feedback !
All good versions, I had the Spectrum version, might have been monochrome, but graphics and playerbility was excellent. Cheers for showing this.
Revisiting these old games throws up some real surprises ! The Spectrum version played really well with great. clear graphics !

Great job on completing the arcade version ! How much did it cost you?
Yep the Amstrad version was a new one for me too and a great conversion 😎

About the "how many tanks, etc." panel, doesn't the C64 version show that at the bottom?
Yes it does!
Hi Pedro yes matey you are correct and I make mention of this during verdict 😉 Missed it during the gameplay though as placed differently 😎
The uzi on the arcade was the coolest thing on an arcade in the 80's.
Arnold said da uzi 9 millimeeder in terminator, when he robs the gunshop and kills the owner.
Thanks for that Paul, knew it was an Arnie film but couldn't remember which 😎 Cheers buddy 👍
Could totally zip through operation wolf if we had a phased plasma rifle in the 40-watt range
Agree with your verdict. Great video.

Great video! C64 version got the 'kill' count down on the bottom bar.
Yep recognised that on the comparison at the end matey 😎 Thanks for watching and appreciate you commenting 😉
I agree, I think the Amstrad CPC looks the best.
Thanks for watching matey and good to hear you agree 😎👍
Great video.
Thanks matey glad you enjoyed it 😉
Amatrad looks great. I played both Specky and C64 and think Specky is way better than c64 but the Amstrad seems hands down the best.
Hi Kenny ported well to all systems and the Amstrad was really bright and decent colour palette matey 😉
😍. Amazing
Hi RETRO glad you enjoyed it matey, plenty more like that on my channel 😎
The Amstrad scrolling is way too fast! But I like the colours. The music on the C64 though can't be beat.
I'd call it -
1. C64
2. Speccy
3. Amstrad
The Amstrad for me has a vile colour pallete!
Anyway, a big like for the video!
Hi Charlie thanks for commenting and your opinions matey 😎 If we all agreed world would be a boring place 😉 All three conversions were brilliant, wish I could say the same for next weeks VS video !!!! 😁
The Amstrad has great colours on certain games, this is definitely one of the best.
The C64 looks very dull and washed out colour wise, CPC definitely takes it graphically and it seemed to play faster with better sprites
Gotta add my like to your videos because not only do i like them but they deserve as many as possible.....can you do ninja warriors please 😊
Hi David, thanks for the support 😀 I can add Ninja Warriors for a future VS video matey 😉 Glad your enjoying my content matey, new VS video dropping tomorrow PM 😎
Amstrad version very colourful and great detail, and lots going on. but to me just a bit too fast scrolling. Too manic for me.

Always impressed by the Amstrad colors (i only played it once ) - from your videos im beginning to think that Amstrad beat the C=64 in graphics.
