Thanks for this video! I have removed one of the rear drum brakes of my Sienna 2003 to replace the brake shoe and drum as well but I stopped for a while to find some good tutorial video on how to do it and I found yours. Very informative.
Dude! Thank you so much! You totally demystified drum brakes for me. After I watched your vid, I bought some shoes and knocked the job out in 35 minutes. You're the best. Thanks.
Glad you got them done .. plus bonus. Makes you feel manly
M8 x 1.25 bolts to remove drums. Great video. I recommend lubricating the bumps on backing plate where shoes pivot as they can bind up if not lubed. 👏
Thanks
They'll SQUEAK and wear the down, creating a lip.
Man this was a huge help today, just finished replacing all same parts on my Yaris with no issues thanks to your video. Huge thanks!
I'm glad it helped!
Very good video, thanks very much. I've been hunting for nearly an hour to find out which way the fork on each side of the adjuster goes in.
You are the only one I've found who actually mentioned the correct way for each fork. Great stuff.
I was also wondering the same thing. My little spring loaded arm for the auto adjuster kept pushing away from the ratchet nut and not adjusting until I got the fork the correct way. Great video.
My god I’ve been searching for a video like this for ages, this is perfect thank you so much included everything you need to know and was done at such a pace I could just follow along without pausing!
Thank you I just needed a refresher it's been quite a while for me doing replacement break shoes. I always take pictures before removing anything just in case I forget something 😊
One of the better Yaris rear brakes tutorial. Short and to the point. I don't agree with getting cheap brake pads, but the video is spot on. Thanks
Quite good video. I’ve seen a couple of movies before this one and they were crap, the blokes were explaining things very briefly. You did it very well, step by step, showed what goes where, in right order. I’ll do mine soon. Thanks.
Excellent man, thank you 👍🏻
I did it today, no problems, thanks for the video! My understanding is that the brakes are self adjusting, so I set the adjust to the shortest length and let er rip!
Nice work!
Thank you...I now understand why disc brakes came about.
Yeah the drums suck
@@VegasRoManiacReviews my drum brakes suck even more. It took a mechanic 1 hour to get one back on. I got stuck outside for 6 hours trying to do it myself first
Thanks for the video. Im going to try it tomorrow.
Very good. Lack of lube ? The handbrake will actuate the adjustment of the Pawl and ratchet within minutes if operated a few times.
Thank you. My mec tells me to pump the pedal several times after the lining adjustment
Good job sir. Nice and very useful thanks for sharing.
Este video está increíble, explicado todo a la perfección
👍Very clear detailed &focused same time
🤷You're v.honist and confidant !
GOD Bless you🙏
Thanks
Thanks
Excellent video great quality and explanation
Great video! What was the size of the bolt you used to open the drum? Thanks
this is a wonderful instructional video. Thanks
Very clear, straight to the point, was very helpful thank you
How do you attach the lever system to the second break shoe is there a pin or something that holds it?
Not really having back brake issues. I just no longer have e-break so I'm going to do this job because that way I can replace the pads and just be done with it.
Thamnks my friend. Just made me save some bucks. Replaced the shoes and everything works just perfect. Thank you so much for sharing. Salud 🍻🍻🍻
thank you! to add brake the fork has to be turned clockwise and to decrease must to be turned anti clockwise? (10:56)
The spring hardware should be replaced every time shoes are replaced because they lose tension over time. Also a good idea to replace the adjuster apparatus too, especially if you live in the salt-belt. Might add another $40 to the job, but if you’re going to spend time doing the job, do it right the first time. I usually go as far as replacing the brake cylinders too if vehicle has over 150k miles. Need to use anti-seize grease on the backing plate where the shoes touch; don’t get grease on the actual shoe material that comes in contact with the drum. Bleed the brakes if you change the wheel cylinders.
That's the 3x more expensive way to do it .. and it is better ..
Great video very informative, will help me do the rear shoes on my sons car. Question. Shouldn't the shoes automatically adjust themselves when you replace them with new ones without having to manually do it like you show?
Not on Yaris .. they don't self adjust .. it's an old cheap system. Maybe new ones but not this system
@@VegasRoManiacReviews Ahh thankyou, Toyota being cheap.
@@VegasRoManiacReviews They do have a self adjuster. You put the car in reverse, hit the brakes hard and it self adjusts. Using the parking also causes it to self adjust.
Great video saved on my playlist
Is it necessary to get new springs or do those typically last forever?
They gonna make you buy some but they last forever
@TheCrazyRomanian thank you. I only want to buy what I need. Is it necessary to replace the wheel cylinder if I hear grinding or could that just be shoes and drum wear?
@TheCrazyRomanian
Bro what is the size of the screw bolt to open the drum break it it's stuck? 6mm, 7mm , or 8mm?
Great explanation of what you are doing
Thanks for the video. Very helpful
Great video and I would have not thought about installing the adjuster in last.
Note Yaris are rock solid cars 🚗 and I have 359K miles. This is a commuter car in N. Cal.
Do you have any vids for Yaris rear shocks?
Yeah type Vegas romaniac shocks in youtube should show up
With the teeth wheel mechanism in the beginning. You say it goes on the outside. And then one side on the inside, and then the next part of the video towards the end, you cross them up, which is it?
Locking needle nose pliers yesssirrrrr. Banged myself in the nose trying to use slip joint pliers.
hi sir i fix my 2012 yari rear brake a few day when i step on brake keep made noise what cause that can u tell me
Did you figure out where the noise came from?
Great video
bolt size for freeing brake drum is 8 x 1.25 metric
sir, are those the original brake pads you replaced? if so, what mileage was your Yaris at? and if I may add, what size bolt did you use to open the rear drum? thank you...
Sorry to be so off topic but does someone know of a way to get back into an instagram account??
I was stupid lost my password. I appreciate any help you can give me!
@Francisco Kaiden instablaster =)
@Alfredo Major I really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and Im trying it out now.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Alfredo Major It worked and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thanks so much you saved my account !
@Francisco Kaiden no problem :D
great..very easy to understand..
thanks
I'm happy it helped
Thank you share clip
Which model is it?
Toyota yaris 2010 model
Great video thank you 🙏
OE Toyota Brake Shoes are the way to go. Not much more than aftermarket and made in Japan unlike all the aftermarket shoes which made are in China or Mexico.
True the ones I put in started to squeak under light breaking
What side are you doing
Best vid 👍🏼👍🏼
What a pain in the ass this job was, but a finally did it
O don't think it's hard at all
The safety pin is the real issue wish you would have shown how it’s removed
Man I hate this system of brakes 😡😭
Mines not coming off
Mechanic wants 300 bucks for this, I feel that I’m getting robbed paying that price.
You sure are. $300 is way too much.
@@perromion thank u, I’m sending a screen shot of ur comment to my wife. Lol she needs to c this for herself.
You are lucky you aren't in the salt belt. The drums would look worse than this after a year or two
I'm sure
Thank you. My mec tells me to pump the pedal several times after the lining adjustment
