Harry Reid vs Frank Rosenthal
This clip of Rosenthal’s meltdown at a Gaming Commission meeting, then chaired by future senator Reid - taken from Ned Day and Robert Stoldal’s series “Mob on the Run” for KLAS TV - became the basis for a fictionalized scene in Casino (1996). Both Reid and Rosenthal survived subsequent car-bombing attempts. Rosenthal, who ran the Stardust, Fremont, Marina, and Hacienda casinos in the 70s, was formally banned from Nevada casinos in ‘87.
I like how faithful Casino stayed to this exchange. Some changes, yes, but the essence of it is spot on.
Yeah, wow! Almost word for word from this!
I dunno. Robert DeNiro's portrayal was way more aggressive. Rosenthal was much more calm.
Seriously, it's giving me goosebumps. That was my favorite movie since I was about 12. If I'd seen this when I was a kid, I'd of shit myself. Can't believe how close it was... Just wow.
Facts
Frank Rosenthal said about 70-80% of the movie was as it happened.
Hes the reason theres an equal amount of blueberries in each Muffin

The movie somehow looks more realistic than the real thing!
It’s the lighting
And video quality
Lol old ass cameras
You're comparing old 1980's videocamaras with 1994's technology, lol
Imagine a day when you could confront a public official and even get a response, not to mention blaze a cigarette in the court house while doing it.
Aren’t you from the fragcom ? Bet Rosenthal was wearing Kouros to assert his dominance
Thumbs up if Casino brought you here

Wow this was almost spot on the way the movie portrayed it. Goes to show how faithful the movie was to the real events.
That's how Martin Scorsese is! He's very detail oriented! Look at Goodfellas with the old school cigarette machines! Every time I watch those two movies, I try to spot something I haven't seen.

@@saagisharon8595 a lot of mobsters did that. Blatant disrespect.
Lefty was far more controlled than ace.
This why he started his own show. He liked how the cameras were on him while he was calling out the gaming control board.
I like how Lefty pulls out a cigarette and lights it up rite in the court lol. Then again I guess smoking anywhere was legal back in the 70's. Now days you can only smoke in designated areas.
Oh?
@@CowSaysMooMoo Yes, as someone who was alive back then..smoking was as casual and open as chewing gum. I had several relatives who would - and could - light up a cigarette anywhere, any time. In fact, the only place I DIDN'T see the light up was in Church! LOL

Love the old movies, even in Death Wish people are lighting up in the hospital, in other movies in air ports, on the plane, schools (Uncle Buck smoking a cigar).

I just have one question.
Was he at that Dinner?
Was watching Casino for the thousandths time, had to pause and see if this was real...geez can't believe this really happened so accurately.
Yep surprised you didn’t know it was real lol
One of the people who buried the brothers ran Chicago heights tocco was his name.
I didn’t know it was this accurate. The movie really depicted the scene the pretty well.
The matter involving the “Bob List story” about which Frank Rosenthal and Harry Reid are bickering is as follows.
In 1978, Nevada Attorney General Robert “Bob” List was elected to Governor. The governor-elect acknowledged that on at least 13 occasions during the prior two years he had accepted the hospitality of the Stardust hotel-casino in Las Vegas owned by Argent Corp. which was a principal target of a massive federal probe into underworld influence in Nevada gambling. Frank Rosenthal oversaw day to day management of the Stardust.
In an effort to cut his political losses. List sent the Stardust a personal check of $3,124 to cover the free lodging meals and entertainment he had received there. List also admitted that he had received $425 from the state for lodging and food expenses at the same time he was staying for free at the Stardust.
Thank you everyone for watching. I love the movie Casino and i find all of this mob in Vegas very interesting and that’s why I created this channel. I love the old Las Vegas. I’m working on more videos. Make sure you Subscribe!!!! Thank you everyone.
Same suit as De Niro from the movie
DeNiro went to see Frank, to watch his mannerisms, how he held cigarettes, get a feel for the clothes!

Did you guys see how Frank fired his match!! Absolutely class
It may have helped his image if Lefy didn't wear those shades and fedora hat. Instead of looking like a businessman he looks like a gangster.
Rosenthal was wearing the fedora to conceal the signs of recent hair plug transplants he had received.
sexual chocolate
Pimp
A bomb was later placed under Reids car...he said it was either the mob or another guy he had put in jail. Also, side note Rosenthals lawyer was future longtime mayor Oscar Goodman.
The real Oscar Goodman was in the movie Casino playing himself. Crazy!!!
Now I know the why the mafia wanted Frank out of Vegas. Never knew how to play it cool.
They want to stay under the radar, surprised Rosenthal didn’t get killed immediately after.
Lefty was no dummy. He really thought he could go clean and run a legitimate operation. No doubt he made some incredible changes to Vegas. In fact, alot of the things he did for Casinos is still relevant to this day.
@@ChrisJohnson-hk6es absolutely

I did not know that the scene in Casino was portraying Harry Reid. I remind you that earlier in the movie the Harry Reid character (played by Dick Smothers) was a guest at the Tangiers and took a prostitute to a room in the hotel. The LDS church was heavily involved with Las Vegas criminal activity.
Ried was lying !
Harry Reid was by far the bigger criminal tho 😂
It just occurred to me what Casino was implying. The state senator who rejected Rothsteins license was Harry Reid but in the movie its just some state senator. In the beginning they show that same state senator being comped with a room and a hooker. Ergo Harry Reid liked his comp hotel room and hooker.
Ried was head of the Gaming commission, not a Senator, but your 99% correct. Harry Reid has quite the history here. (Also, Oscar Goodman, future mayor of Las Vegas, was Rosenthal's Lawyer!)
@@LordHeadcheez That one about Goodman I did know. He also defended Tony Spilotro (Nicky Santoro) and there's a scene in the movie they lifted almost directly from footage of the real guy..except they weren't walking out of a federal courthouse in Vegas, it was in Chicago. But the part where Nicky says "watch yourself" to a reporter who was so desperate to get a picture he ran out in traffic? That happened... And of course Oscar Goodman was standing right next to him.
