Deep dive is absolutely needed. Start ALL the way back at the EPs, all the singles. Then finish it all up with Euclid. I know we'd all love to go through it with you but I understand the temptation. Full album reactions would be rad too

Exact same experience - I knew on the second song that Sleep Token was one of my all-time favorite bands. They grab you quick!

I have a huge appreciation for this band and the musicality they show! Sleep Token took everyone by storm when they released The Summoning with a music video to accompany… haven’t really slowed down since then with their popularity, and they were fantastic way before that too!
Would love to see you react to a Falling in Reverse song eventually! Popular Monster is the song everyone knows by them, so that would be a great place to start!
@larryshair New viewer here. You're the second reviewer to mention Pink Floyd. I totally agree. Im old enough to remember that band (born in 78')....That band in particular to me was always experiencing the songs not just listening. Telling a story. Like a book. Cover to cover.
This band. I procrastinated listening to them, then last year gave in. This was the first song I heard. Realized my mistake waiting so long.
Like you the rap bar section I too was, hang on a damn second. Of course now after hearing the drummer is very fond of R&B and electronic music. I get it.
I also hear Slipknot, Deftones, Radiohead (on some other songs). Vessel, the singer, he has a unique sound. Captivating.
The choices of words in the lyrics are very deep. Well chosen and relevant.
Highly recommend Chokehold and Are You Really Ok.

Nice reaction! I really enjoy your reactions! Oh you are in for a treat! This band is FIRE!! I am an eclectic listener and rarely solely indulge in just one band but this one got me! They have 3 full length albums (a trilogy), two 3-song albums and some singles. First one released in 2016. I would highly recommend starting from the beginning. They incorporate a lot of callbacks and references to older songs and their discography is really a story. The core band is Vessel (lead singer, keyboards and on the studio versions plays bass and electric guitar) and ii (the drummer). For live shows iii and iv play the bass and lead guitar respectively.
I still can’t get over their range and how emotional their discography is. Again just start at the beginning, sit in a dark room and hit play. They dont have any bad songs in my opinion. But if you want a few that really shows their range I would recommend by album:
Sundowning: The Offering, Levitate, Blood Sport from the room below (beautiful piano ballad)
TPWBYT (This place will become your tomb): Hypnosis, Like That, Telomeres, Missing Limbs
TMBTE (Take me back to Eden): Chokehold, The Summoning, Aqua Regia, Ascensionism, The Apparition, Euclid (but this last one is most amazing after hearing the entire album trilogy)
I always advise to start with the EP's and listen chronologically. It will hit different to get all the callbacks or understand the story in itself. A lot of us would be in to follow your whole Sleep Token journey
1st off, yes, Sleep Token is epic and amazing. I feel the Pink Floyd comparison is spot on. I would compare my first time hearing Dark Side to my first time hearing Chokehold and The Summoning. There is a running theme throughout their discography, toxic relationships, tragedy, trauma, and recovery. The lyrics are generally cryptic and can be translated in multiple ways. The song "Take me back to Eden" is essentially the conclusion of the the album and basically a summary of the entire album. Even to the point of including lyrics of the first song Chokehold in the background at the end of the song. Overall meaning of TMBTE, coming to terms with a toxic relationship and the desire to return to the innocence before. Thanks for the reaction.
As adventurous as the song is what I find most fascinating about it is how the chorus is different each time, both in style and intensity.
Also this song in particular has that spacious feel about it that I love about Pink Floyd.
It’s still unbelievable to me that everything you are hearing but the drums is vessel. The dude is so immensely talented.
I do have a feeling ii has been contributing to the heavier parts for at least the last two albums. There's a rhythmical sophistication to the riffs and grooves that wasn't quite there on the EPs and Sundowning, to an extent. But overall I agree with your sentiment that V is a powerhouse

Thanks! You're totally right. When I come across a group that just goes off the rails, I'm so very bummed that I have to wait on listening to a song until the reaction time. And with shuffling artists, I can't just do a full set back to back. Several peeps have asked that I just react to the entire album at once. I'm thinking about it but not sure if many peeps would watch a long video like that. Oh well : )

What I love is the trilogy is like a giant concept album. A love story about the God of sleep? Maybe.
Another theory I’ve heard is the first album Sundowning is Air, tomb album is water, and finally Eden is earth. Either way awesome music.

I am a 50 year old who discovered Sleep Token a few months ago and they are ALLL I listen to. My thoughts were EXACTLY yours when I first heard them, they have some Pink Floyd influence in them.
What I love about this band is you have a lot of genres, rap, blues, jazz, metal that could be in one song. And the lyrics are just as great. They are my new favorite and I just can't stop listening to them.
You should do ascensionism next. Should an amazing piece of music 🤯

I love hearing people's opinion of the song. It really can be left up to interpretation. However the best theory IMO is that this tells a story about the stages of emotion in a toxic relationship. The twists and turns and the stages of losing someone meaningful to you. How the songs starts so calmly, asking to be taken back to Eden, to go back to the " happy times" even knowing how bad the relationship for them. And by the end of the song, someone that is in sheer hurt and anger, screaming that they've gone thru hell for them, and not understanding why they can't be together. Absolutely my favorite band. Vessel is singing about his ‘shadow self’..... who does not let him sleep....unresolved deep trauma.... the relationship is between himself and his shadow. Towards the end of album three, he is starting to befriend his shadow after coming to terms that his shadow was always there, but trying to help him ‘see’! Look deeper into his lyrics and you will start to see he is talking about his shadow self (as a deity called sleep) yin/yang, male/female. His shadow is represented as a female. IMO ❤
My favorite band is Floyd and I think that’s part of the reason I was drawn to ST. They are my “new to me” favorite band. I can’t get enough of them. Ascensionism is my fav song by them. Vessel’s voice is just so incredibly captivating. And II’s drumming skills are sick! Worship!

Sleep token is very unique. And their lyrics, they're top tier in my opinion :)
The 3 released albums are a trilogy. This song being the last of this album(the next song in the album track wraps up the trilogy -Euclid) wraps up wanting to go back to Eden , when things were innocent , perfect , he’s asking to go back to that. Whether it’s as a better person, relationship, loss etc. and at the end he’s no longer asking kindly but in anger. That’s how I take it. Enjoy sir! This band grabbed me quick to become my favorite band in a long time.

The last 3 albums all tell a story, you’ll have to dive in deep to get the full story.
As an Australian I get a nice equal balance of exposure to both British and American accents. So when I listen to anything from either country it sounds perfectly fine to me :)
One of my new ish favorite band... they are so good.... next songs the summoning , Rain or Granite
I would recommend their songs Jaws, The Love You Want & The Summoning, all very different from one another but all phenomenal. Also, their Drummer "ii" has done an drum playthrough on Drumeo, also 100% worth a watch!

This is the longing, the wanting it all back before the anger and realising fuck no. The outro has some call backs, but it leads into Euclid, probably one of the greatest songs ever written, in the context of the album and how it ties it all together. The way it completes the story. The call backs. It is the finalisation and realisation that it is over but is ok to look back and remember. But ultimately it’s time to move on, to be someone new. It’s fucking beautiful.
But after taking in the album(S) it offers so much more. It is the closing and the beginning.
This entire album speaks. And the last song, Euclid, is for the fans the most beautiful thing.
To understand why he feels this way, Ascensionism lays it all out on the table. “My redemption, eternal ascension, setting me free”. “You make me wish I could disappear”
For me this is Vessel wanting to escape the pain, and leave the earth. So fucking sad.
It flows into Are You Really Okay and I think that is Vessel looking back in from the outside, asking himself that question.
That into Take Me Back to Eden makes the finale, Euclid, just a masterpiece. The realisation that it’s over. But it’s okay. It’s okay to look back and remember the good times but it’s time to move forward, time to be someone new. And it’s fucking beautiful….

If you do go through their discography on your own time I recommend saving Euclid until the very end! Either way, enjoy!
