I went to school to make money, none of that " It's my passion" BS. And I think a lot more people need to show that it's okay. High school REALLY looked down on that, and now I'm upset that no one ever told me it was okay. As long as you don't hate the career you are going for, then there is nothing wrong with it.
About to turn 38 The day I turned 37, I quit my job and began travelling asia. Best decision I ever made. Travel is a big one I would recommend in addition to your good advise
“I feel like I have spent a lot of my life doing things the wrong way” I literally was just thinking that the other day. So glad I’m not the only person who feels that way.
Sounds like you went off track a few times. We have all done that. I think college still provides opportunities, but as you can see from so many, they had the raw talent to succeed with out a degree. You are going to do just fine!
You're right there are no mistakes or failures only lessons. But we are taught this black or white thinking of success or failure, where failure is "bad" when that's just not true. With everything we have been through we have all grown in some way even if it didn't seem like the best outcome at the time. Comparison is the thief of joy. You are exactly where YOU are supposed to be right now. And had you not have gone through those experiences you may not have the same perspectives you have now. Everything happens for you, not against you. The future is a mystery, the past is history, NOW is a gift, that's why it's called the present. "You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending." - CS Lewis.
Thumbs up to you, sir! What you shared hits close to home. There are probably MILLIONS of "guys like us" who simply went with the loudest voice because we wanted to fit in more than we were willing to be criticized for not following the herd. I'm now starting over for the hundredth time give or take, to live my life the way I want to. I feel those of us who struggle the most to do that will have the most influence on how the world will change. It takes discipline and just doing it. Aka be brave. Thank you for this honest content and video. Happy New Year!
I am a student in school and i feel like I'm just spending my time trying to get high grades, because my major requires it. Im tired but i don't know what else to do with my life because lots of high paying jobs require degrees. Unfortunately, with inflation and all, we kind of need a stable decent paying job to afford a safe place to stay and food to eat...
Good advice, Mike! School success does not equal life success. That said, college was 100% worth it to me, but each person needs to make that decision for themselves. College is not a ticket to success... but it's also waaaay too expensive to go and just wing it these days. The only other thing I'd say is that it is good to be aspirational, but better have a backup plan too, just in case that "big break" doesn't materialize as quickly as anticipated.
Keep learning and moving forward. I have had ups and downs in my life. I am recently retired, but had many steps back on my way to finding financial freedom. I am close but not there yet.
Thank you for sharing. I’ve taken a few college classes when I was in the airforce and even tried again when I got out. I still didn’t like college. There was pressure I faced from family to go to college especially since I have free college now, essentially. But I don’t like school and they’ll get over it someday. Since 2017 I’ve been investing in the stock market, and I’m always interested in it. I work a typical customer service type job now but it’s been good. Anyways, this video is good for young people to hear. When I have children someday, as long as they stay out of trouble, don’t do drugs, and have self respect, I’ll support them in what career path they choose.
Totally was expecting you to say, "A million dollar idea can be read in a $15 book. And with that being said head over to my website and buy my new book! "
Such great insight. It’s not always easy to self reflect, thanks for your honesty. We live in a changing world and I feel like a lot of young people can benefit from this advice. Love your videos, glad to see more of them.
Thanks for this advice Mike, it’s the kick in the butt I needed today. I can relate to a lot of what you went through - especially the literal years spent playing video games and the feeling of disillusionment from going to college without a clear purpose. I’m probably a couple years behind you in my journey to overcoming those setbacks, but it’s a relief to know it’s possible to come back from that and be building things you love, which it seems like what you’re doing now. P.S. - I’ve been watching your channel for a couple years now and it’s cool to see how much more eloquent and confident both you and Brit have become in your videos over that time. Keep it up!
Really appreciate the kind words, Nick! Sometimes I feel like making these more personal videos will just end up embarrassing me. It's encouraging to know I'm not alone.
@@MikeandBrit I can imagine it is a bit scary to share not-so-flattering parts of yourself so publicly - but I appreciate it. In reality we all have them, you're definitely not alone!
Great advice all around Mike. As much as we would like to have this advice early on, there are some things experience just has to teach us for it it stick. Overall, I see life as a live test where experience shows if we passed or need to shift.
A lot of this is great advice. I went back to school at 30 and got SO MUCH more out of it at that time than I did for the couple of years I went after high school. I will say, though, that I'm nearly 42 and a CPA and I play video games with my husband every day. Sometimes you just have to have some unproductive time to enjoy yourself and give your brain a break.
Thank you for the insights, but please, people, get a college degree and don't think you're the exception to the rule like these UA-cam millionaires. At 37 years old, the only people that I personally know with a 6 to 7 figure net worth have college degrees. GO TO COLLEGE and GET THE RIGHT DEGREE!
@@DB-gr7zb 6-figure salary, college degrees, 7-figure net worth in 5 years. Yeah, I really don't have anything figured out. All this recession talk but I have 3 degree, 3 skill sets, and 2 growing side businesses. I don't have it figure out at all, just eating what I want.

I’m about to turn 27 and I’m really starting to kick things into gear 👍🏽. Really love seeing and learning from you guys!
Congrats on getting things into gear in your 20s!
Man you're telling the story of my life, I'm 45 now and I regret all the time I wasted in my 20s and all the opportunities I missed.

So underrated video
The ability to eloquently speak is a talent .

Do degrees even matter to the likes of tech companies nowadays? It's all about experience
