Mike Love uses a large looping pedal-board to incorporate voice samples and guitar work with a heavy bass presence into his lively acoustic performance. He makes true roots reggae, channeling his legends to write music that’s freeing and personal, but with a message of radical peace buried within. Love is classically trained on piano and writes his traditional tales with careful song construction.

Mike Love's whistle sounds better than Ron Burgandy's jazz flute (5:29). Sounding as good as ever. Couldn't be happier for this band. Such a wonderful group of people.

His smile at the end is because he had a premonition that we would all be yelling at the screen that noone can ficking whistle that well.
He's actually not whistling. He's singing and uses a sound effect to make it sound like a whistle. My guess would be an octave splitter. I know because I asked him myself when I talked to him after one of his concerts. He also didn't hold that last note that long at the end.
