When Oridek Ap was 9 years old, his father Arnold was shot down by the Indonesian army. Arnold Ap hosted a popular radio show in West Papua. He played Papa music from different regions from the island. He also made music himself. The Indonesian authorities didn´t agree with his music taste. The country was fallen in Indonesian hands after a fraudulent referendum in 1969, facilitated by the United Nations. It is probably one of the biggest frauds the UN ever backed up. After the Papuans became Indonesians they had to be introduced to Indonesian culture, according to the new power elite. Playing papua music became a crime. Today still waving the Papuan flag, given in 1961 by the Dutch authorities, leads to 15 years in prison. In Indonesia there is no democracy and no freedom of speech. The military rules. The Indonesian parliament is a theater where corruption is the main occupation. Oridek Ap fights for a free Papua country. His weapon is music. He plays in a band with the same name as his fathers band had: Mambesak. This video is recorded in October 2011 in front of the Lush store, a company that supports freedom for the Papuans.
Toen Oridek Ap 9 was werd zijn vader vermoord. Zijn vader speelde in een band en had een populair radioprogramma in West Papua waarin hij muziek liet horen van Papua´s. Dat mocht niet van de Indonesische autoriteiten. Zijn moeder Corry vluchtte met haar kinderen naar Nederland. In Nederland strijdt Oridek Ap voor een onafhankelijk Papua. In deze video speelt Oridek in de band met dezelfde naam als de band van zijn vader: Mambesak. De video opgenomen in de Kalverstraat, Amsterdam, voor de Lush winkel. Lush is een winkelketen die de vrijheid van Papua´s ondersteunt.
