The SKIF synchrotron, or Siberian Circular Photon Source, is currently under construction in the science city of Koltsovo, and its launch promises to be a landmark scientific event in 2025 in our country. In essence, a synchrotron is a super-powerful large flashlight that, using a special type of radiation, helps to see what is hidden from human eyes and penetrate deep into matter. Thanks to SKIF, scientists will be able to synthesize materials whose properties are difficult to imagine right now, and create ultra-effective medicines and vaccines. Synchrotron radiation can be used to irradiate cancerous tumors without affecting healthy tissue. And these are just a few of the many uses of the “super flashlight”.
