I have memories of the 141 in both variants. Noteworthy in both was the insulation that kept the sound inside. I remember flying from Incirlik to Torrejon in 1973. I had a cup of coffee shortly after level out, set it down on the floor, fell asleep, and when I woke up I reached for the coffee and it was frozen. The last time I flew on one was out of Egypt to Rhein-main with a fire truck as cargo. Missing those times.
The C-17 has better engines, better aerodynamics, a modernized cockpit and some other stuff the Starlifter didn't have... independent from that, the C-141 is still a classic. The C-17 is a modern aircraft for its time, the Starlifter was a modern aircraft for it's time in the late 60's. I mean, if there were still some Douglas C-133 Cargomaster left, the pilots would probably also say: "Globemaster III and Starlifter are both better than this aircraft".
Loud as f*! Wow, I remember these things landing overhead my friends house in the 90s at March AFRB and they would blow your ears and shake the whole house even at 50 N1 landing power. The people who complain about airport noise nowadays have no idea how loud turbine engines used to be.
Same with me except it was Guam AAFB (Anderson), have to cover up my ears as they went overhead. They leave the worst trails of black smoke too! It is a very impressive sight when there are 10 to 20 or maybe 15 coming in succession. 🇺🇸

Great overhead landing

Dude, this ain't whine, this is pure music. You go on flying on that low-quality A320 aircraft and let it be.
@sirdcac you're crazy!!
Haters gonna hate.
Listen to that whine at 57 and you'll be glad that these ear drum busters are gone. Good riddance to the C-141.
Thank the Lord these loud, high-pitched whiney airplanes are gone.
