Problem is the electricity filter, it may be clogged
100% agree. Also, it may require a higher grade of electricity with more solar content.
Most people don't realize EVs still require blinker fluid too!
Ah, the old "low pass" filter...
Too much tofu in this tofu dreg cars filter.
You are wrong dude, small electric cars don't use electricity filters, so the most probable cause is clogged electricity injectors. Might as well check the voltaic manifold for galvanic corrosion.
Also charge or check the 12 volt battery as it might be low. This would cause some of the car's systems not to work properly. The lithium battery may only be used for the electric motor.
This car should have 2 volt meter for 12v and high voltage battery.
This is going to be a great series 😂 you should bring it to a local car show or something and get people’s reactions. See who actually guesses right that it is a Kandy
Lift it
Would love to see you take this to an electric car mod/repair shop and have the battery system looked at and see what they say can be done.
Gotta say, Tommy NAILED the DeMuro-esque “THIS is the…” 🙌
Not wearing enough shirts.
Given the warning light and issues, I would suspect the 12v battery may be shot.
Your mistaken that 12v battery is also the main battery that drives the car too
@@renamon1983 nope. Not how electric vehicles work. There is a 12v battery that runs all the computers and on board systems, and a separate high voltage and muuuch higher capacity battery for the drive motor.
@mrperkinsofaustria I know I was joking cus it's such a small junky little car, no seriousness to be taken
@@renamon1983 ah, apologies
@mrperkinsofaustria no worries haha though I'm glad to see more people knowing about cars then just being ignorant to them
Do a tug of war with the Kandi Vs like 5 guys? It Vs a regular golf cart? Maybe drag race it against a golf cart as well? 😂
I would also love to see how it ‘performs’ with 4 people in the car… like what’s the 0-35 time with just a driver and 0-35 time fully loaded?
That instant torque in sport mode hitting 25mph in “not too many” seconds would lead me to believe it would be pretty good at tug o war. As for overloading it - I wonder if that’s what happened? Maybe it has a weight sensor and those 3 guys exceeded the weight limit for the car, not allowing it to drive?
@@stephen3164I was actually thinking that as well, but it might have also been wet so… 😂
Also would love for them to drive this car in some light rain… since water seems to kills it…
Put it up against Donut's ChangLi.
Lol
12v is likely shot, I'd swap it out for a new one. A low/old/weak 12v battery can make all EVs and Hybrids freak out and act strange. As for the HV battery, I'd try just running it dead and charging it to full a handful of times and see if that recalibrates the BMS (maybe disconnect the 12v overnight as well to reset everything)
"As long as you don't trust the range estimate, the battery estimate or even the speed-o-meter, I think it's okay" - Perfect summary from Andre.
with any car.. electric tends to be the worst with range.. i always cut the range in HALF of any stated range
@@KrGsMrNKusinagi0That’s just Tesla, my electric Fords were spot on for the most part.
@@KrGsMrNKusinagi0 Hum, I’m not sure you actually own an EV, then. Half? That’s quite a bullshit figure, sorry to say it bluntly.
Honestly I really would be afraid to leave it parked inside anywhere, or near anything. Chinese EVs are known to spontaneously combust.
It probably needs a firmware update. To something actually “firm” in reliability.
Get Dunn from aging wheels to look at it and maybe take it on. He loves orphan electric vehicles.
This, 100%
Yessss
A few months ago Doug DeMuro announced a few different collaborations with different creators. I wouldn't be surprised if he would want to review this if he was invited to do so. Also, curious if this would fit in the bed of the Silverado EV, or if you could do an MPG loop with any other truck that had the payload to hold it.
I'm sure he would, but I don't know if he leaves California much for content. It would be awesome though.
This is one of your best videos/purchases to date. Waaay more entertainment than 80% of the cars/trucks you folks buy
Agreed
i mean, you did buy an eletric car that sat for several months (or years) and the first thing you did was... fully dischange an unbalanced battery
and the problem you got after is exactly what happens when you do that
These have been great videos. I suggest buying a crash test dummy and testing offset crash at 35mph!
This is probably one of the best and most interesting videos you've done lately. Specially the doug demuro bit, pretty cool to get to see everything about such a weird car
This is the best video of TFL with the worst car 😂. Tommy reviewing the car similarly to Doug was outstanding!
I can appreciate the 5k expenditure for a lesson of 'what not to do.' Great entertainment as well 😂
I get my motoring entertainment from Doug Demuro and TFL. It seems I no longer need to tune in to Doug Demuro, as I can get all my quirks and features from TFL... Nicely done, Tommy.
I swear this is top 5 most hilarious TFL videos of all time.
😂
After watching the whole video, I have to say that Roman's idea is a really good one,.. use it for a target at the local shooting range, that is IF said Range will allow the possibility of
full on Lithium battery conflagration.
Another idea and generous gift from the folks at TFL would be to donate it to the local Fire Department(s) to use for practice and training in how to control an EV fire. Better yet, see how
the Norwegian invention of a brine immersion completely extinguishes it.
Doug would be proud, I suggest contacting Rich Rebuilds... having him collab on pulling the batteries and putting in a turbo Hayabusa with a rear-drive!
$5000 out of your pocket. $7500 out of all of our pockets. What a bargain! If I ever have to push my car, I can just pop the clutch and off I go! LOL
Could it be that the age and bad storage have increased the problems for an already bad car? I mean I'm sure it was always bad, but maybe it is worse now than it originally was
I wondered that about the battery, and of course if the power is flaky the whole thing gets affected.
Plugs electric car of dubious quality into the charger - closes garage door and leaves premises to go to lunch. Yup, nothing sketchy about that!
As others also stated - change the 12v battery (or at least check it's voltage manually) since it runs all the management electronics.
let it balance the cells by keeping it at 100% on the charger for a few hours
You'd probably have to cycle it between 95-100% a few times. I bet the BMS isn't smart enough to balance the cells and shut off the contactors at 100%
I recently went back to their website and I didn't see the cars for the street anymore. I only saw some off-road vehicles. Maybe they have now quit selling them or maybe making them or even maybe just for the US or something. Don't know.
Mods time! Let's see it unlocked and the battery fixed.
Ok, so you have to hand-wash the car, not a deal breaker. But how is it in the rain? That's what I want to see.
the 12 volt battery is probably toast as it sat forever and im sure they installed a crap one from the factory. get it tested and or replace it. you might see improvements in system operations.
Stamped on the battery," purely for decorative purposes."
Wonderful homage to Doug Demuro! I genuinely hope you can get this quirky car to work, I'm sure you can have all kinds of fun with it, just check out what the boys at Donut did with their Chang-li
You got a bargain at $5000. The battery in it alone is worth that. Our lip golf cart stops working (alarms go off and stops) anywhere between 30-50%.
Every single one broke! Not many car manufacturers can make that claim!
Love the Doug imitation~
Ford's working on it.
Please just Hayabusa swap it.
Make it a nice sleeper. 🏁
Change the 12 volt battery to a new one or at least test it. Nissan Leafs will freak out when the 12 volt battery starts acting up.
I hope you all do a 6 month and or a 12 month updated review on the Kandi K27. I really enjoyed your video. First time viewer here. Loved the Doug Demuro impersonation.
I'm pretty sure if you leave it in "Sport" mode, it raises the top speed limiter. I think I recall seeing that in an old press video.
Pretty sad when a golf cart is faster, has more range, and more reliability.
Tom did a great job with the Doug DeMuro bit. The look on Nathan’s face behind the wheel was very funny.
So far great video's, what would be even better is for you to see if you can make it more reliable by fixing the issues the manufacturer overlooked, and also if you can improve the vehicle at very little cost by either jailbreaking it and get a more useful top speed and a better BMS for more reliable range predictions.
Put in a reliable motor and drive it to see how long the rest of the car lasts.
This was a hilarious video. The whole family was in it well minus the other goat kase The Doug demuro part. And Brendan says this is worse then the Land Rover. I cried laughing. Tommy your embracing your greatness I’m proud of you. Awesome thumbnail too. Well done team 🅰️. The facetiousness of the video. Lol
Maybe it could be improved by a Leaf battery swap (LB swap 😂)? Although at that point maybe just get the leaf....
Think one of the employees over there has a Nissan Leaf.
A used cheap old model body Nissan Leaf.
It's not a 911, it's a 9-1-1 because you have to call for help every time u drive it 😂
I suggest throwing it in the back of Andre's Colorado and take it out to the ranch. Take the battery out of course, but incorporate that little car into part of a new climb, "Kandi 2.7 Hill"? You could bury part of it but vehicles have to climb over it on the way out. 😊
Their HQ is still in Dallas, Texas in an old Academy building. They still have a few old K27s on the lot, but mainly these days it's full of little pickup trucks.
The quality is astounding here, it can't get wet, doesn't report the actual battery level, and can only go 35 mph. I would highly recommend to only charge that car outside and away from any buildings or other cars that you don't want to see burned to the ground. 😲😲
Now THIS is the kind of content I've been looking for. Here for the Kandi vids ☺️
@3.33 - Kandi joins JLR in the hallow halls of automotive unreliability. Absolute gold, baby!
i adjust you get that hood open and check inside motor bay area for any rottening wiring because that can cause fault with pcm reading battery wrong 2nd you need get it on lift and pull battery out check for bad bms because it causing it misreading
2nd there is esc in hood and just need two wire plugs into esc that allow you bypassed speed limited from 35mhp to 76mhp (normal find inform by using model code off of esc tell you more about it )
It shuts off the radio in reverse so you can see better. 😆
The car was conceived by Chinese government. Bilked U.S. investors out of 160M and the cars that were bought stole all personal financial data from owners phones. I’ve got more but it’s only Tuesday.
Tommy is notorious for backing EVs into walls lol
Wonder if the radio has a piece of plastic covering the display, kind of looked like it in that shot.
I remember reading about these when they opened a "showroom" in Dallas a few years ago. I think the Dallas Morning News did a piece on them.
My "scam-o-meter" went full red with this company as soon as I read about such a cheap foreign import car that only went 35 mph and was meant to be a city car. My biggest question was "Why?", because at the time, you could buy a 2-3 year old Ford Focus or Fiesta, or several other compact cars, with low mileage for the same price as one of these.
I then discovered the dealership/showroom was about a mile from where I worked. The strangest part was it was not where anyone would expect a car dealership - at the end of a dead end road next door to a Home Depot and NTB, hidden near a business park.
Seriously, this car has nothing but potential! Kandi got it 50% done, you guys can do the rest. Paying $5K for a small, economical city car is not that bad, actually.
I am actually kind of amazed that this car was "sold" for a profit. The BOM/Labor price on this thing must be like, 5K?? Its clear they payed zero royalties for any of the tech, and it likely has batteries that were either used, or did not meet the spec other manufacturers require. Need to find out who made the ECU so you can get into it and change some parameters, such as the max speed limiter.
Sell it back to Kandi in China so they can re-sell it for the n-th time for more of that sweet sweet subsidy money.
This car is what you guys need again for just some kooky fun and love to see where it goes . I wonder if you can put those knobby tires like off the Suzuki mini k vans
I would get it fixed up and take some trips and see how the build quality is. How many miles would this car be able to travel? Would be cool to see
These are HILARIOUS and I love them because they evoke what I imagine was the environment of Car and Driver in 1980s. I love the camaraderie and the humor. Y'all just need to do everything you can with this thing and YES JAILBREAK IT.
Also might take several charges for the battery management to stabilize
Did you try filling the blinker fluid? That often solves a lot of problems.
One of your best videos! Jailbreaking it def has to be your next one! Get it to hit that 60 MPH redline!
Let's do the Ike gauntlet!!!!!!!
Love the 2 videos so far. Keep this car or golf cart whatever it is running. Great job!
Tommy saying: "While we wait for the Candy to dry out..." 🤣🤣 Ridiculous and hilarious on many levels 😂😂. Money well spent
You should get like 4 kinetic ropes (you'll need spares) and see how far you can drag it before it explodes with a Bronco raptor in Moab (or that test trail you all use)
If Roman took it to car wash and caused issues, what would it happened after a t storm or 10" of snow on the top?
Not a great QC, but the idea would work well in a large city. Small, so it's easy to park. Low speed, in a metro city, no need to go 70mph. But charging would be a slight issue...
just found out that one of my friend friends have one that he bought one in Houston Texas then had delivered Thibodaux Louisiana his daughter used to go school and around town then got to do up 60 mpg. Work out for her they tell me she gets around 50 miles range
ok, you got me, I subscribed! Very cool to see the father/son relationship; good times!
Give it a "weekend score" Tommy. Don't leave us hangin'
May I suggest doing an EV conversion on the Kandi? Leaf batteries and motor? Could be fun.
How about a swap with a Leaf blower motor and battery? Might be scary to double the HP and range.
SELL IT TO JAY LENO!!!!!!! He'd definitely buy it, and could even be a guest on your show.
I think Jeff Dunham might like it too.
I would totally take this car and use for grocery runs and around town just for the looks 😅
looking at one of the warning lights on the cluster, it could well be that it has an issue with the immobiliser
Please keep doing this series!!!
I love electric vehicles. I have over a dozen of them. They all have radio transmitters to control them.
For 5k brand new. I would buy it just for the shell. I would find some gas or Diesel engine to stuff in it and fix the problem
You know that Kandi 27 badge looks like a replacement, are you sure this isn't a rebadged Hershey 26? A big brown one at that.
Please do:
1. Moab
2. Ike gauntlet.
3. Riding on 2 wheels.
I'm not sure what the order should be, because it could get destroyed in any one of those.
A few problems exist with Chinese Electric vehicles. Miles Electric vehicles had trucks back in the day, used by Colleges as yard maintenance vehicles, Prison garbage collectors, etc. I was a warranty repair person for them for a short time until they went bankrupt. A few problems existed almost every time. 1 the charging plug was wired wrong....white is neutral coming from infrastructure, in a car black or green is your ground...so the charging port plug would be wired backwards, so when you plugged it in, you would pop the charging system. 2. The charging system had the wrong algorithm in the charger, so you wouldn't get consistent charges or none at all since the batteries couldn't take the charge. Thus reprogram the charging unit 3. Wiring harness is wrong, when these things are made in a factory in China, if they run out of white wire blue stripe, they grab whatever other wire they have laying around...white with blue was headlight circuit, but in some cars it wasn't or there would be two wiring paths in the same wire color code. The wiring harness was almost impossible to troubleshoot without tracing all wiring out before working on it 4. Main wire harness gets water in it and nothing works right, disconnect the main wiring harness connector and look for corrosion. Basically where the main wiring harness meets the ECU. 5. If it has multiple battery's daisy chained together, if one battery is more than .3 volts off from the other batteries in the system, you will get misreading's on the batteries when it is charged, will show full charge, 5 minutes down the road you are at 20% 6. there is a low volt and a high volt system in electric cars...the voltage converter could be bad and thus both systems couldn't run or work together, thus issues with gauges misreading, etc. Chinese car wiring is the worst thing to work on...hands down.
Does the Suzuki van fit inside the Buhanka?
Well I could defiantly picture this as a weekend only car to take out it be fun to see people reactions to it since you don’t see these on the road they are pretty unique cars if only they were more reliable
Kandi started as a ebike company I believe and if you go to there us site they have a 4x4 pick up truck and a few golf carts. I have seen a few Kandi ebikes and try are junk to.
I think it is not getting enough electricity and running lean. Try pumping the switch a few times or spray some electrons in the manifold.
Has anyone suggested taking it on the off-road course at the ranch? You could just use it in place of all the logs David was throwing in the bog.
That Suzuki vans pretty cool! I saw one advertised as coming to the U.S and is fuel driven. But also has a cap speed at 70 mph
And think said was a 3 cylinder
Speed limiter was added once they could not get full speed approval
Can you download its code and start looking for the limiter routine file or delve into its settings to increase it turn off the governor?
Loved the Doug Demilo impression ❤
Imagine the names they discarded before deciding on Kandi. Baracuda, Charger, Mustang, Cougar had already been taken.
I remember one user suggesting to plug it into a 120 V outlet for a week to have it rebalance itself? Idk if this would be a solution.
Play with it and see if the battery breaks in and holds a charge. May just need a few cycles to get it working.
Awesome Video, you should do a video comparing it to a golf cart
On the Kandi website the only thing close to a car they have is a "UTV Pickup Truck EV" that has AWD and either 50mi range or the long-range 100mi range batt. Woo lol. Thats the K32 for $30k. The buggys look cool but are about 5-10x the price they should be.
How does the Buhakna compare off road to the Model T?
Put red diagonal stripes on it and get a license plate that says, "CANE".
"What kind of suspension does it have?" "Yes".
the body is basically a copy of a Daihatsu Cast, wich has the excact same tachomter. That might explain some questions
maybe try disabling the speedometer to unlock speed? like the wheel speed sensor etc.f
POV: You loose control on a bend and experience severe “tank slap”… from your groceries hanging on the hook!😂
Here we now have this Kandi, you have a new candidate for the BBC Top Gear series review. The one time they can honestly and sarcastically claim a British made car is the better car.
Looks like they were heavily inspired by the Daihatsu Cast design-wise.
