I remember seeing this cartoon when I was four years old on an old VHS tape, but I had only a vague memory of it. I finally found it just now and it is such a beautiful and sentimental cartoon. Showing how beautiful the world can be through different eyes.
I am 24, but my grandparents would by VHS tapes of old cartoons, and this was one of them.. To this day I remember that song, and listening to it touched my heart in a way that it hasn't been in a long time. Not that my heart hasn't been touched since childhood, as it has, but to have that old and familiar feeling of innocence and eager hope revived...it's a beautiful thing. It truly is.
Wouldn't it be great to see a fully restored DVD of these old Famous and Fleischer cartons? The color and animation on a lot of them rival anything Disney was doing then.
This. Short! Now that I'm rewatching it, it's a SAD story of a blonde girl and a raggedy anne with the most CUTEST voice and CUTEST singing..BY..FAR!! PS: DAMN SAD AS HELL!!!

The opening location is a real section of downtown Manhattan still known as "Shaggy Square" in 1946. It's near Prince Street and the original 1835 St. Patrick's Cathedral (still there in the shadows of the 3rd ave. Elevated. The neighborhood was still predominately Irish at the time just north of Little Italy.
I have been in search of this video for several years! I watched it once in my basement with my Grandmother when she lived with us. She had all the classic cartoons on VHS at the time. I always thought that it was a Little Audrey Cartoon. Fortunately when I searched here on youtube, Little Audrey brought me to this Raggedy Ann Cartoon. I didn't even know Raggedy Ann had a Cartoon show. At any rate, it was the inspiration for a poem that I wrote for my fiance. I am extatic that you have it!
I would not be surprised if Shane Miller and Orestes Calpani based the characters on real people in the area; this cartoon has a very personal feel to it.
Oh my God I left this cartoon as a kid and I still do and it’s so special to me because I am blind just like a little girl and I have the exact same raggedy handle.
Please please please - does anyone who used to have this on VHS remember the name of the other cartoon that was on it about two young children who are poor and fall asleeep and dream about living in a world where everything is made of sweets? It's my favourite ever cartoon - it's lovely.
I remember i had a 2 sided dvd that had this and other old cartoons. I find it funny that in the cartoon the cop finds raggedy ann in the trash and my grandma found my raggedy andy doll in the trash=)
I remember as a child having a vhs tape with many different cartoons on it . I would watch it at night . I didn’t have a remote so I couldn’t fast forward from the bed . I had to get up and walk across the room to operate the vcr . I was afraid to get up because if I got caught my mom would turn the Tv off because it was passed my bed time . So I had to suffer through this show . It felt sooo much longer than 10 minutes ! I always thought it was Terrible ! And after watching it now I realize that ……… it’s still terrible !
Raggedt Ann may or may not have had a TV show, as such, but this was a theatrical short from Famous Studios in the 1940s, the same folks who did Popeye... AND Little Audry, Listen close to the cop- Same guy did the voice of Bluto.

By not closing the parenthesis I left the impression the El is still there (that section closed in 1955 and was the last Manhattan El torn down except for a tiny section of 9th Ave. El near the Polo Grounds).
ok so there is a VHS with this at the beginning, a tiny tom with an elephant maybe, and old king cole all on one tape! does anyone know what this is called??? please help is was my favorite VHS as a kid at my grandmas! HELP ME!
This version has a more stable picture than another a just watched...For a old film like this, how many 'prints' are there-any guesses? If the prints have missing frames in different places, you could reconstruct the whle thing by splicing!
This cartoon was made by Famous Studios which is what Fliesher Studios bacame after the buy out. Max was forced out but most of the original staff remained. Unfortunately this is obviously an nth generation copy and suffers for it.

There exists a fully restored European print that aired in France back in 1999.

There’s a better copy on UA-cam now. If you search for “the enchanted square 1947”, it’s the one that mentions an upcoming 2019 Noveltoons blu-ray
