I plan to use this for books, do I have to drill holes to my wall even though I don’t have kids or pets?

This is for your safety, it is something recommended but not mandatory. As books are heavy anyway , check your floor before with a level tool for flatness.

Does this bookshelf require to screw up in the wall or should it be fine if i keep this as a stanalone shelf?

I have used it without any anchor but if it is for kids room will be advisable to anchor it to the wall for safety reasons.
