Today I wanted to share some beginner tips & basic sound creations for Polyphonic Singing. As a beginner myself I welcome any tips/advice from those just starting out on their journey with polyphonic singing or those experienced!
I originally started this form of singing as a form of meditation. It is an awesome mindfulness practice & incredible gateway for cultivating a deeper connection with nature and animals! It is also fun to share with others who have never heard of this style of singing before!

I remember as a kid making these sounds. I remember how unusual it was and wasn't sure if it was ok to make such sounds. Thinking I was touching on some sort of witchcraft. And so dropped it. It's a cool sound. I don't think I could do it now.
Emm Bronte after a month it just came! I found through a wide range of tongue positions it is still possible to make such sounds. But I can't get rid of the background sounds. You do it so beautifully! I'm just in awe and amazed at your quick work of it. You have awesome sound. I wish I had an afternoon of tutoring. It's so cool. I will check to see if you have any other videos.thanks for sharing. By the way, I was in Mongolia a while back with my daughter. It's just like Nevada, USA.

I have been practicing every single day for the last three weeks. I’ve watched every video there is on UA-cam trying different exercises & methods & tongue & lip placements. This video is the last video I watched & I DID IT! I FINALLY GOT IT! I was in my car by myself last night trying & trying over & over again just as I have been doing every single day every chance I get. And I was trying the “moooore” sound when finally the mosquito buzz turned into a beautiful glorious flute-like whistle! Woooo! Hooo! I’m so excited. I just wanted to say thank you! Yeay

What about scientific evidence to support your hypothesis?
Why should drinking water have an effect at all (unless the oral(!) mucosa is really dry = I'm not talking about the inner laryngeal mucosa)? This fairytale is told so often, that I need to comment on this:
*The water runs down the esophagus(!), while the larynx is 100% closed by the epiglottis, hence the water doesn't get anywhere near the vocal chords. Many people think the can somehow magically "lubricate" their vocal chords by drinking (water or all kinds of recipes, like milk with honey, etc). That's anatomical nonsense.*
The only thing it helps with is enjoying a placebo effect.
As for temperature and vocal chord "constriction": first of all, the vocal chords are ligament structures and no muscles, i.e. "active" constriction is impossible. Sure, they are accompanied by the thyreo-arytenoid, vocal and cricothyroid muscles, but it's not reasonable to assume that water running down the esophagus within fragments of a second and with a temperature differential of maybe 10 or 20 degrees is only remotely able to have an effect on the temperature of the inner larynx muscles. The same is true for effects on the vocal chords via thermal expansion. Not only is it impossible to significantly change the temperature of the vocal chords via drinking (maybe it is a bit by inhaling hot steam), but vocal chords are also relatively short structures and the thermal expansion coefficients of organic tissue make the idea of signficantly changing the vocal chord length via a few degrees of temperature differential ridiculous. So what about remote effects via reflexes? The only known reflex in that context is from swimming in extremely cold water / cold water drowning: the larynx is indeed known to shut, but we're talking about the glottis diameter and not vocal chord tension, hence it only impairs breathing resistance.
Now let's hypothesize for a second that for some weird reason you are indeed right and cold water constricts your vocal chord: constriction = increased tension = higher frequency. Now drink ice water and see for yourself if it turns you into a castrate or super-soprano. I have my doubts...

I was an only child, and I spent a LOT of time in my room by myself and I used to try new sounds with my voice and mouth just to keep myself entertained. By middle school, we had a choir teacher who told us about this and showed us a video. At the time, I felt so cool because I’d already figured it out, but I didn’t know it was a thing. This was 1982. I doubt I could do it now. I have teenagers at home, so I don’t quite have the same alone time as I had as a child. They’d have me hospitalized if I was practicing and they caught me!

This is a wonderful introductory video. I watched some introductory videos from Miroslav Grosser and Anna Maria Hefele from Germany about 3 years ago, and I'm still not as good as you ( lol ). I notice our NZ native birds are quite responsive to the overtone sounds, especially the songsters like our native, the Tui. A caged sulphur crested cockatoo kept at a nearby animal park gets excited by these sounds as well. I also practise throat whistling as it carries a long way, and one can reach lower notes that whistling with the front of the mouth will not reach. Both means of sound production are good for calling the horses from some distance. So, yes, my experience of overtones with animals is similar to yours. Keep making videos, as you present this topic very well.

I like your story with animals. I learned how to whistle like a bird, it works too! I was really surprised the first time some birds came closed to me as I was practicing bird whistling. Now I'll try to get polyphony and talk to foxes like you!

just realized after watching you that when the overtone sound is separated it is very much like a whistling, lol.
the same tongue movement (from e to u) is used to control pitch while whistling, so combining voice tone with whistling feels weird a bit and requires a lot of air and tongue control but it becomes significantly louder in overall...
the lower pitch you want the lower "u/f" it becomes, same way the higher pitch you want the more "e/v" it gets
in terms of breath control the lower you go with this the stronger air flow is required, the higher - the lesser flow, but flow means that it is constant.
idk maybe that will help someone

I haven’t read all the comments but I wanted to mention “muppet” voices. Bowing of the throat like the Kermit, the frog voice can create another overtone. Likewise, the Cookie Monster voice is good for some of the deeper overtone singing styles. Possibly good to note as well, that there is an overtone, which comes through the nasal cavity, another from the tongue to the roof of the mouth shape, bowed throat, overtone, as well as the low drone similar to Buddhist monks which can create overtones as well.

To be honest i saw a video of some guy on youtube but it didnt say it was polyphonic singing . I thought it was humorous at first but later on in time i saw a video on polyphonic singing.( video of a girl explaining in a white and black filter.). Once i understood about producing these vibrations. i was so intrigued. Im into spirituality and connect with strongs frecuencys or vibrations. (Singing bowls) !!
This is a good way to be my own "singing bowl"🙏😇😭

Thanks for your awesome video, Your Polyphonics sound beautiful :) Ive been practicing & practicing & At this point i can do it the best when my tongue is touching the roof of my mouth.... is that right? or should my tongue be out of the way? Have you run into this or have any advice for me at this point? I agree that practicing is also meditation. Even tho im still learning, practicing in nature has been really magical & Ive also had lessons in dreams which has got me this far. & After practicing I can hear the Polyphonic tones in other peoples voices or an hour or so, which is trippy. LionsTooth hey!!! 💯😊That's what I find as well. When I do the 'nnnnn' or 'mmmm' I move my tongue slowly from just behind my teeth to the very back of my mouth and curl it back to my throat. Then I will move it from the bottom of my mouth ( just behind the lower teeth) to the roof of the mouth. This way I get a full range and see what works. Most of the time the top
