I am not an expert but the odd color corn is to help bugs that eat the seeds and corn plants it helps so the insects don’t become resistant to they insecticide. Nice video.
Hey Conley could you tell me the thought process behind planting corn this year? I ask because corn takes so much more water than cotton. Do you sell the silage to the dairies in the area? Do you and other area farmers have hail insurance on their cotton crops?
Hail insurance yes but it doesn’t pay out too early in the year. And we planted a bit of corn for one reason not too put all of our eggs in one basket and because it had a good price this year
Hopefully you don't get hailed out or washed out. I just moved back up to Amarillo and it's been wetter up here than I can remember. There's parts of town that are known to flood (for like a day) that have been underwater for a week.
Texas can grow some high yields in the national corn growers contest. North West of Lubbock at Hart Texas a farmer grew 464 bu/ac. Iowa has never been close to that!

Watching from Zambia
Great video Conley. Sound idea growing corn silage for local farms. I assume that will help with weed and disease breaks in the crop rotation. 👍👍

I hope we don’t either. And I’ve heard about Amarillo and it sounds like it has been crazy up there
The corn seed is two colors because of the need for BT trait refuge.
Ah gotcha thanks for letting me know
If you are planting corn, should we start growing cotton here in Iowa? Lol
Lol might as well plant peanuts too 😅

Something about this red dirt plants just love it. If only we had more water lol
Hey, what seed meters do you have on the planter?
What do you mean by seed meters are you talking about the seed plates?
Finger pickup, vacuum
Well it’s an old planter so it still has the original parts
Howdy Conley
