Just wanted to say that my katana 100 has given me; after several tweaking of course, the most sick, deep, tight, ass kicking, gut wrenching metal tones I've played. Took my band to a new level. It's ridiculous how fucking loud it gets for its size, it makes no sense. Blessed be boss for bringing these products.
In tone exchnge you can find some sick tones aswell , im now using a dual rectifier sound downloaded from there but made some adjustments to my taste and it sounds kickass
I own a Boss Katana Artist 100 thanks to watching OLA's video here. I wanted an amp that can do a lot in a combo format. And the one thing I am most appreciative for is the way this speaker boss has come up with for this waza series of cabinets and amps. the G12w sounds amazing to me. vintage greenback tone with moden power handling for today's higher wattage equipment. I love that speaker.
It is a badass speaker. I bought a Katana Artist Mk II and it's a great sounding amp on its own, but I discovered some magic by plugging my 5150 III in to the Katana's Waza speaker. WOW.
@@wonderz_808 Simple: Unplug the Waza speaker from the speaker jack on the back of the Katana Artist. Run a speaker cable (male to female) from the 5150’s speaker jack to the pigtail for the Waza speaker. Set the impedance on the 5150, and then rock out.
I bought the MKII version of this amp a month ago, I am running the Boss GT-100 four cable method. It kicks ass tone-wise. I use the gt100 in manual mode, and use the clean/distortions of the amp.
I have this amp and you can get amazing metal tones by using software. I use either brown and lead with a tube screaming and the parametric eq. I used to be a Peavey Vypyr fan boy but the This amp destroys them in every way.
Yea i have the vypyr pro 100 and just got the katana artist 2 days ago. Im already a fan of it, just need to get on the software and check all the other fun goodies out.
Great Tone man, nice demo. The Tube Logic technology, the dinamics and response this amp is truly amazing. In addition the Katana cames with too many effects from boss compact pedals, it is fantastic.
A lot of you guys in the comments keep comparing this to the regular Katana. it's a totally different animal. Models were revoiced for the Waza Craft speaker thats in this cab. That speaker alone is a bit over 200 bucks separately. Fantastic amp. Love mine!
Sup homey? Ive a Kat Mk2 head goin thru a custom built enclosure w/a celestion 15” fullback speaker in it... Its my practice and quicky portable rig. I've used Mesa, EVH & Friedman amps for years. With that said, I bought the 100w Katana head recently. It's a phenomenal amp. Boss knocked it out of the park with these. And yes, it can get whisper quiet and crushingly loud.
This in my opinion is the best of all the boss katana amps! I have 3 total I never use the other two! The speaker makes such a huge difference in the tone!
Just bought the mk2 artist head today for my birthday. I don’t need my pedal board anymore. All I need is a wah pedal, great for any gig, especially with the power control. I can take a stadium rig to a bar and still be very quiet.
Thanks for this review! I was looking at reviews for this amp all day. I'm on the fence about a few different amps. One of them being this one. This was a straightforward, no nonsense review and I appreciate it.
I actually like the crunch lol. It sounds killer when I use it but I'm playing some 80's hardcore/punk stuff at the moment. I have the regular 100. The lead kills as well. Tremendous amp for sure.
great review as usual your site is awesome, i'm getting back into playing after years off and you are my go to channel for reviews..I find i'm in love with the powerful sound of metal now, and I grew up with the stones, led zeppelin, Pink Floyd, doors, Hendrix etc oh and lets not forget black sabbath...thanks for all you post Ola!!
I got the Artist. I A and B'd them both and found the Artist to sound better for my playing style. I really liked the tone Shape EQ Contour settings and the waza speaker and cab just sounded so much better to me. I spent hours at guitar center going back and forth. I've been a working musician for almost 30 years now. Have owned many amps including Triple Recs, JCM800,900,DSL's, Randalls, Laney's, Carvins and my Katana head with a 2x12 of G12T-75's is the best gigging amp I have ever owned period. I do not play much metal other than the occasional old school stuff like Ozzy,Priest, or Maiden but it performs perfectly up to that point. It's not designed to be ultra high gain thats why it gets so noisy when Ola turns the gain to satan mode. If you need ultra high gain this isn't the amp for you.
Bob It actually works wonderfully with high gain, as these amps were designed for high gain. Ola was just doing a real quick rundown and didn’t do much tweaking. The Tone Studio app completely opens this amp to almost every sonic possibility. Literally
I have got to get one of these. killer. I actually want the 50 watt version. Thru my excellent AKG headphones, these sound just like a tube amp to me, or really close.
