178 violations in just 2 years. How was it not condemned? Why were people allowed to live in such an unsafe building? How many more are just like this one?
It's just disgraceful.
Because it's America.
We don't know what those violations were for and if any of them were structural violations. They could be for anything. As someone who spent years in the field, I can tell you, you're just jumping to conclusions without all the evidence.
Why would anyone continue to live there.
Lawsuits galore !
It's all about money they don't care
When they get cited, they just pay the fine instead of fixing. I used to work in property management in NYC. It’s despicable what they get away with.
And being cited is probably just the tip of the iceburg...people usually don't even bother reporting the minor stuff.
Maybe because NYC makes permitting construction so difficult?
Too much corruption
A reflection of the type of corrupt people living there.. not just the Bronx but in general
They pay the fine by increasing the rent.
I remember a report from ABC a few months ago about a building in NYC that was reported, by a tenant, showing video of the structure being disconnected from the foundation. There are many apartments like this in NYC and nobody ever fixes it, but will charge patrons thousands of dollars in rent for a death trap.
Correct. Thousands of new reports, thousands of complaints, but you can bet your last dollar that no actions will be taken in order to remedy the actual problems. That's the NY way, baby! Hell, it may actually just be the HUMAN way. :) Classy is as classy does. 💪😎✌
The buildings are reaching their life span but can't be replaced now.
AI Kaida is not invoIved this time?? .. DAANGGG!!!
they'll raise the rent but they wont fix the problems!!!
After a weekend of heavy rain and wind... thought it’s unclear if that was a factor” yeah ok. God forbid it rains . How dare weather exist. Horrible, crap reporter
As much rent as people charge, you'd think they could perform some maintenance.
You get what you pay for. It was probably cheap rent, that building required 10s of millions in maintenance/construction to fix it.
@@DeathNikkii Oh well. Guess it's ok then.
@@DeathNikkii cheap means 3.000$ in NYC lol
Was thinking the same thing
@markjohnson7488if it’s rent controlled that means the government is paying the Market Price. Meaning they get paid more then enough to upkeep the property.
These greedy landlords bleed their tenants dry and don't even have the conscience to even pay a dime to maintain the buildings. Absolutely despicable.
It may not be the landlords fault.. Could be the contractors cutting corners or inadequate frequency of inspection. We don't know the whole story yet and no doubt there'll be a full-blown investigation over this and who is to blame.
When fines are non-existent or far less than it costs to do things ethically or professionally... well... just look at the Titan submersible situation. 💪😎✌ The CEO was *LITERALLY* scoffing at James Cameron's warnings, and the warnings from dozens of other professionals. And why? SIMPLE. Cashish. Ego. Moolah. Dedd Prezzez, baby. It ain't nothin' to sacrifice it all for the almighty DOLLAROO! Woo-hooooo! 'Murica.
The city is bleeding the tenants & building owners
When you have rent control you create situations where there is not enough money for renovations.
Because the city lets them get away with it, the major doesn’t give a hoot
most buildings in nyc are over 100 years old. My bathroom ceiling completely collapsed last year and fortunately no one was hurt. The saddest thing is, the only compensation we got was that the land lady did not raise our rent for the following year.
This happens often in NY. I hear it the news about building collapsing.
@@PyroShields it all comes down to landlords unwilling to use better materials and refuse to renovate unsafe units. My power burned out last year and it took them a month to redo the wiring in my kitchen and bedroom. Got zero compensation for my inconvenience.
@@bowei4237too bad so sad. That's what you wanted. That's what you voted for. That's what you get. Shouldn't have fought over left vs right wing. Serves you right. You're not a victim.
@@bowei4237how can they when the entire building needs borderline rebuilt from the ground up
@@BestMods168 Please try to un-program yourself and find your sense of humanity again
Landlord: "Oh no that's terrible...so...you're not getting your deposit back
And your rent increases to cover the cost of rehab building
And they're charging a cleaning fee
The slumlord didn't want to pay for the renovations of the building he or she should be held responsible and sued by the residents
They should be criminally liable, too.
This wasn’t down to renovation, it looks like structural damage.
A surveyor was needed to assessment of the structure and certify the structure of the building or recommend work for reinforcement.
It important to separate superficial work from structural work.
Hopefully insurance pays for the damage to the tenants.
THIS HIGHLIGHTS THE IMPORTANCE OF BUILDING CODE ENFORCEMENT
The need for enforcement is increasing rapidly as buildings get older. But with the current state of affairs, I only expect enforcement activity to be on a downward trend.
DOB and HBD are better at collecting fines than enforcing repairs.
zero of the violations had anything to do with the facade
If America built houses like they did in Europe, out of Stone, instead of cardboard….. But then again, the “SATANIST”hiding behind names like “Hugenot’s”, “Nazi’s”, “Fake Jews”, “Hamas”(Fake Palestinians), “Fake Catholics” and “Fake Americans”, then the Satanist would probably just blow it up, like they did to the “World Trade” center on September 11, 2001.
Yeah, Satanist did that!
They start wars as a cover for their need for blood 🩸, just like they did when they committed Regicide against My Great Great Grandfather, King Louis XVI, and just like they did when they started started WWI & WWII, and when the Satanist usurped My Church in 1958, and just like the Satanist hiding behind the name of WAR( ain’t that right Linda Greenfield aka Volodymir Zelensky in Silicone disguise & voice synthesizer) started the War against Gaza, and the Vietnam War, the Afghanistan War, the Civil War, the Indian Wars, the Mexican American 🇺🇸 Wars, and every War in between, especially the GENOCIDAL WAR IN GAZA.
And that is why the Satanist hiding behind Washington and the so-called “Intelligence Agencies” hate President Trump so much, because he took away their “Abortion-On-Demand” Blood 🩸 Supply!
What will the Satanist do after they have leveled Gaza?
They will do what they are doing now, using your “personal computer’s”(your electrical brains) as they control people to go around and indiscriminately shoot and murder people, as a cover for the Satanist Blood Supply.
On JUDGEMENT DAY, YOU will be asked:
“In December 2023, What did YOU do to stop the Genocide in Gaza, and in America, and around the World?”
As the Holy Catholic Crown of Royal France and Navarre and the Surrounding Environs, and as a Diplomat of the Holy SEE, “AND” as a dual CITIZEN of the United States of America 🇺🇸, “I” Support and Endorse President Donald Trump as President of the United States of America 🇺🇸, and as Speaker of the House, if need be.
You have been Enlightened (and warned)
"we can fix it, but rent would go up..."
Literally what we will begin to see regularly from now to 10-20 years.
Alot of those buildings are from the 1900s so it was bound to happen.
Landlord should have taken better care of the building.
They only care to make money. People's lives are there last concerns.
I’ve said the same thing, how much longer do we think brick and mortar from 100 + years are going to last, some of these buildings need to come down and be rebuilt.
NYC is collapsing.
This is despicable! What happened to BUILDING CODE ENFORCEMENT?! I pray no one was injured or killed
Witness already said there was people at the corner deli, 🙁 I can’t even imagen… all those violations and the city did nothing as usual 🤦🏻♀️
@kasun1752
The current state of not just the US but much of the world is in a way which we will see quality of both products and safety/health standards decline if the downward trend doesn't stop.
It is my OPINION (not necessarily fact) that NYC has way too much on its plate that's starting to "mold." I only expect such occurances to increase as time goes on even if we all hope for the opposite.
Now NY is getting a little taste what Palestine is going through.
@@reptilionsarehere100%, same in Europe. Quality is not a relevant word anymore. Government and constructors only care about profit, nothing else. Everything they do is to cut costs, doesn't matter if people die because of it. Makes me sick.
What happens when a landlord is willing to spend more money for lawyers than he is for building repairs?
Landlord: that's too bad. Your rent is still due the 1st
For anyone wondering, it has been announced that there were no deaths or major injuries in this event
It’s a miracle.
you believe that!!??😂😂😂 dont be so naive!!! please...
I have a very hard time believing that every apartment that was destroyed was coincidentally empty...
@@thebattlecrow That is amazing. I heard it was 4:00 in the evening, if it had been 4:00 in the morning it would’ve been a different story.
That's actually insane, even for NYC slumlord standards. They didn't give a damn about keeping things up to date obviously.
178 violations and the city allowed people to continue to live there. What a great situation!
Someone needs to go to jail. Horrendous.
@@lindapullan6937you should be the one that goes to jail. You allowed this to happen when you decided to fight over left vs right wing instead of what's important for the people's livelihoods.
Probably waiting for a bigger collapse so they can slap a even bigger fine! lol
@@BestMods168 Why are you going around making aggressive assumptions about strangers on youtube. What a weirdo. Go touch grass
It's probably rent controlled and the Landlord would have to evict and drastically raise rents to make the repairs. The city finds it easier to turn a blind eye than 1) find new housing for 500 families and deal with the political blowback or 2) or cut the LL a check for $50 million to retrofit without raising rents. Happens frequently here in CA. The amount of rent controlled properties with sublimation and subsidence issues here in So Cal that will go down in the next quake is shockingly high.
Blessings to these families!!! I pray for no loss of life!
prayers do nothing, religious people are stupid
Another negligent landlord who probably lives far away.
"Studio apartment, excellent view outside, very open. $4000/month plus utilities."
Apartments in the building probably go for thousands a month too
I couldn't imagine paying all that money to live in a building that has 178 violations and then it collapses.
If we don’t already have this in place, then we need a law where after a certain threshold is met in terms of number of violations within a certain timeframe, then the owner is not allowed to pay a fine anymore. The building must be condemned. And even before it gets that bad, there’s needs to be another threshold where after a lowe number of violations is received in a certain timeframe, all tenants need to be notified and the landlord cannot collect rent until the violations are fixed. Seriously, these people were giving the landlord money to live in a death trap. All death traps should automatically null and void lease agreements and all tenants need to be given a head start to move out
Reminiscent of what happened in Florida.
not at all
@@tvviewer4500ever hear of Surfside? It is similar to that. Google it.
Surfside was water exposure and rusting rebar within the concrete. We don't know yet what happened here.
Yea not at all. No one said there was a hard drive dead switch with 10 TB of evidence on it in the Bronx. Doubt the IDF will be showing up to help the search with this one either
@delftfietser you can see the flash before the fall in the video my guy. You're never going to be told what happened, but you know what happened if you know why it happened
NYC buildings have tons of violations because you report it and they say they will come to inspect the building but don’t give you an appointment. The inspector shows up Monday -Friday 9-5 pm and if you miss them that’s too bad. Or the landlord comes and angrily patches up the job horribly and the inspector marks it as being fixed. Plus it’s the Bronx and that Borough always gets the least amount of attention and care.
All those violations and the city did nothing to the owner?? Someone needs to be fired. Be lucky if a major lawsuit doesn't happen over this.
The major should be fired, city just cashes in on fines and leave it be, the city is as much or even more at fault here. I would sue both the city and the owner.
I hope no one was hurt. God Bless these poor poor people and the freman working the scene.
So far only two people with minor injuries and no reported deaths.

We have billions for wars in Israel and Ukraine and in the meantime the infrastructure is falling apart here in the USA.

And now there's an entire building full of families who are now homeless. No building owner should be able to get away with violation after violation! There has to be a happy medium between making a living as a landlord and making a killing as a slumlord.
They will get a nice hotel for a while til relocated compliments of taxpayers.

It must suck to live in NYC.
Everybody should live there once. But leave before it makes you to hard.

and they'll be charging you 3k a month to live in that death trap.
it's not the roof, you can see it's the 5th floor that caved ... seems like they were doing remodeling in that unit ....
Unlikley. Water pooling in the corner. Seeping down the inside of the brick, rotting all the connections. Eventually the wall buckled and down comes the brick.
Why hasnt the city condemned these unsafe buildings???? Somebody is getting padded pockets....
In a city known for its impeccable enforcement of building codes and efficient use of tax dollars to improve infrastructure, how could this have happened.
I'm sure the nyc politicians will raise property taxes and put it in their pockets to solve the problem.
Old buildings all over the country are collapsing, old downtowns are having issues with their buildings collapsing across the country too. This country is just getting old
Yeah, OK good fairytale there
And people move to New York to pay $3000 a month for a one bedroom in something that’s over a century years old. Gentrification in New York to me means painting over old ish calling it luxury or give you a turd sandwich and call it steak
You've never been to New York... any part of it.
Staten island is made fun of but right now it's the most livable part of nyc.
I’m very familiar with NewYork and the Bronx, half my family born and raised there. I visited numerous of time and even live there shortly, and I can say it’s a bucket of trash hyped up to be the Mecca of US. If I offended some New Yorkers, oh well. You know your environment(large rats, garbage smelling polluted air, toxic beach water, old crumbling buildings, overpopulated, gay and AIDS)
178 violations and yet they were still allowed to rent it out....to the POOR of course. The poor people who have no recourse, money or means to do anything other than complain, and while the corruption from the landlord and city inspectors just kept on going, and they collect their money! Disgusting! Someone needs to be held accountable.... More than one someone!
And their rent is probably like $4000 a month.
These apartments ain’t cheap to rent. If you pay over 3k you’d expect at the very least that safety standards and maintenance are up to date.
That’s insane … it’s been cited all those times and no body did anything !!! … it’s clearly not safe, they need to demolish it and rebuild.
The city bends over backwards to please bankers and real estate interests and does as little as possible to help renters, it's always been this way. Think of how many live in buildings like this one and many are much older.
That's not true, have you heard of rent control?
Cash Jordan did a video worrying about the poor maintenance and age of buildings and the danger of buildings collapsing

Like the condo in FL last year except that was a new building, not old like this one.
Quite a lot of the buildings in NYC is quite old so it's not shocking they are starting to fall apart. It's shocking how much the monthly rent is for a small apartment in NYC. You would think the price they charge for rent they could keep up with the maintenance on the building.
Where I live you can get nice 1 bedroom , 1 bath Apartment for $980 per month. There is also a 2 bedroom, 1 bath Apartment for $1,120 per month which also has a 1 car Garage.
I'm glad they're searching the debris. Davenport was reluctant to search when this happened here.
And of course, no politician or people responsible will have any accountability...cause they get away with everything, always...
It’s funny how you listed politicians first. Did the politicians not fix the building?
Did the politicians pay for lawyers instead of using the money to fix the building?
Since it was a corner, I would wager that the contractor didn't use any soldier courses or continuous horizontal ties. The build probably predated the code for steel, but soldier courses have been around since the invention of the brick. Every five to seven courses turned in to interlock the face brick to the bearing wall.
Omg. I hope people are ok. Government isn't perfect. It can become a horrible bureaucracy when self-righteous people seek control.
