Mind Shift: how about sourcing Mutumba locally. That promotes our local Textile industries and takes care of the “re-use” dinamics that the chairperson is talking about.

SpiceFM, please make a correction. It should read, excise duty not exercise duty.

There are pre-loved clothes in charity shops even in Europe where people pay very little for their purchases. There are also groups that support the Repair, Reuse, Recycle of clothes, shoes and other items where people get what they choose for free. It's not just in Africa where these Recycle is done.
What matters is regulation on what is allowed in.
It means if all the second hand shops or businesses were closed down worldwide, many people would lose their livelihoods and maybe majority would be walking around in tatters/rags.
It's true about those cheap clothes. You wash it twice and you throw it. Terrible things.

It would have been good to bring a representative from the foundation to counter the debate based on their findings.

Saying there are no mountains of waste used clothes in Africa when the videos are shown on TV and are on UA-cam is wild. Mitumba is The West's solution to the problem of fashion waste, which was one of their biggest environmental headaches. The so called good quality clothes from The West are also manufactured in Bangladesh and China. We need to stop this mzungu worship n build our own industries

Modern day home guards as well as serious incompetence within the private sector (esp decision making positions) really holds us back.

Mitumba iko better quality and cheaper than nguo produced in kenya. Even serekali increase taxes traders get ways bring Mitumba to kenya. Clothes producing in kenya ended 45 years ago. Can't be revived .

I wish to disagree with that proverb's interpretation. There's another proverb that goes; you can't push a car while inside. To mean that if you are part of the problem, you can't offer any solution to the problem

Ban all mitumba. Our EPZs are producing world-class garments at $2 each.
