I honestly thought Mansa Musa was top dog since it's hard to "quantify" his total wealth.
90% of these lists are very subjective. You"ll never know the exact numbers as no one knows except the actual people.
Even then they may not know the exact # as it fluctuates.
Mansa is just a legend and his story propagated the last few decades in the west. Supposedly he was king of a great empire but there is no record of his birth, early years, later years, and death. Actual historians cannot even determine years of his reign nor if he was an actual emperor, relative of the emperor, or just a caretaker of the empire
@Peizxcv This can be stated about a lot of ancient figures. Some claim that Sun Tzu wasn't an actual person but a collective thoughts of military generals at that time.
No one knows the actual burial of Genghis Khan as allegedly most of the people that attended his burial were killed.
No one knows the exact method to how the pyramids were built but we know it was a Pulley system of sorts.
Some things are just lost to time.
@@user-yk4qt2bs5y While you have a very valid arguement, The Pyramids and Sun Tzu predate Mansa by 4 and 2 millenniums. Mansa also controlled Timbuktu, the center of learning in West Africa. It's quite unlikely scholars there didn't record their greatest king
@Peizxcv your response has validity but birth dates/dates in ancient history have at times been difficult to prove. Socrates existed but no one can quite pin point his birth date, same as Confucius. Marco Polo (which was around roughly the same period of Musa) existed but there are conflicts about his travels and dates of his life.
There are probably still important figures from that time period that probably have been lost to history or weren't that well documented.

There were lot of emperors like gengis khan whose empire expanded from Vladivostok in the east to Romania in the west, trajan his roman empire expanded from Britannia in the east to part of north Africa to Syria in middle east Alexander whose empire consists of all the present day african countries of MENA region to middle East turkey to persia to ancient india (present day punjab province of Pakistan),These emperors were very rich not onlyin gold but in every other precious metals ,king musa was rich enormously but not the richest or top 3.

The existence of King Solomon is not backed by archeologie and neither by history. He is a legendary king (for now, until proven otherwise). So I don't know how WatchMojo can say his fortune was about 2,2 trillion dollars?!? Are you mixing Solomon and his kingdom? Furthermore, archeologic ruins say that Israel was not a rich kingdom, more a minor agricultural country.
Archaeology has proven that the temple was raided by Shoshenq I.

@@Aliocha31 It at least indicates he existed and arranged for it to be built since the oldest copies of the Book Of Kings is dated from circa 3,000 years ago around the time the raid happened.
If the account was written centuries later it would be more plausible to be doubtful of the story since Solomon would likely have been forgotten. It being written briefly later would mean people would be aware of Solomon.
I wonder if Watch mojo researched whether the currency used at these times is still in use to today. Currency gets destroyed many times throughout history. In the case when their wealth is stated in Gold and Silver is there a way to verify what the value of Gold would have been at those times?

You showed the famous bust of Julius Caesar and while still talking about Julius you show a full statue, not of Julius, but of his equally famous nephew and successor, Augustus (Octavian) Caesar. Many docs here on UA-cam have great narrations, but don't "proofread" the accompanying photos/video.
