  • This is a very rough and informal comparison of the Solid State Logic SSL2+ and Focusrite's Scarlet 2i2 Gen3.
The first thing you will notice is how much quieter the Focusrite is. This is not my doing. Both interfaces were turned up as far as possible until the audio from the mic and the guitar were just about to start clipping at their loudest points in the song. I did consider upping the Focusrite in post production but decided that would be influencing the test and might also introduce other artefacts.
I may have been unclear with regard to bundles - both interfaces can be bought with Headphones and a condenser mic. The SSL2+ also includes a shock mount.
I'm not so sure now that what I said about sockets being on the front verses the back is totally valid. If you are plumbed in then having them on the front means you can swap cable types e.g. going from a guitar cable to an XLR and if you are moving the kit around then having them front or back doesn't really matter. For my use though, having them on the back is best as otherwise the cables run over the front of my desk and interfere with my keyboard. I notice that the new Scarlet now has them on the back as well.
The song is obviously a cover of "Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers
