I have this palette too! It remains my favorite! It just seems to be the best collaboration of colors for any painting and I just love Daniel Smith paints! I, too, adore the quinacradones! I enjoyed this video very much! Thank you.

This pallette was designed in collaboration with Australian watercolour artist, Jane Blundell. Each colour has been carefully selected based on her "Ultimate Mixing Pallette" to achieve any colour or subject desired. Her website is an amazing reference and she goes into intricate detail on how and why these colours work so well together ( Janes Grey was named after her😊)

Daniel smith earth tones are just in a league of their own!
I bought this set and the Mezzi Godet colors of inspirational 12 pans in a 24 tin and I filled the other 12 with some other gorgeous DS shades. I’m now adding more into the free 24 tin that came with this set. I got the Colors of Inspiration palette because i wished this one had a convenience purple and I love DS super granulating shadow violet and moonglow and I found the Mezzi Godet palette had the ones I was missing. With the other 12 slots I was able to round out my collection very nicely to suit my needs.
Don’t worry, you are allowed to purchase things for yourself to to truly enjoy them and use them to their fullest. Sometimes that is when we love things the most when we work so hard and save and sacrifice to get them. It makes the colors a little brighter and more fun to use. You deserve it and you deserve to be happy and to use your paints and enjoy every minute of it!
Beautiful palette! I’m very happy for you and I hope you make tons and tons of beautiful art that makes you happy and proud!! ❤

For Daniel smith. Mummy bauxite( really useful brown),permanent brown( rare pigment used pbr 25), lunar black (extremely granulating great in mixes for ‘dusk colours’. Manganese blue hue (great in mixes mix with lunar black to make lunar blue), Perylene violet (PV 29), Perylene maroon (pr 179). All the other quinacridone colours are also fantastic too (magenta, coral, red, gold).
I’m thinking from DS I want the buff titanium, raw sienna light, goethite, chromium cerulean blue and cobalt turquoise.
I prefer tubes when possible as I premix custom/connivence/dupes.

You have EXCELLENT taste in DS colors! Those are some of the best and most unique and some of my most useful colors. If I were to recommend a few shades to add on to this set I would’ve said these same ones! Really good choices. I mean I realize it completely depends on what time of art one does, style and subject, but the colors you mentioned are so of their most objectively beautiful on their own.

I love their Transparent Red Oxide, Permanent Brown, Quin Burnt Scarlet, and Mt Amiata Natural Sienna. All lovely. Their Sap Green is nice too. Quin Coral, Vermillion, Pyrrol Crimson and Quin Lilac are worth considering in the red range. I really like Rose of Ultramarine and Ultramarine Violet for convenience colors. So many to choose from ☺️
    What a great set!

Thank you Elisabetta! I enjoy watching your delight at trying this set. One color I don't like is DS Perm. Alizarin Crimson: it really doesn't mix well. One I love that you might want to add is Quin. Coral (PR209).

Hope you are on your way back to feeling good! Your voice sounds just as lovely but maybe a little raspy😊I’m waiting on a 60 piece hand made watercolor set from Bursa, Turkey! I don’t know where I found them but I wish I would stop! I also found some beautiful inks by Schminke that are just beautiful and look gorgeous with watercolor! Have you ever swatched M Graham?

So many information in one comment! Thank you Robert! As this video dates back to May, I’m fully recovered now. Thank you though!
The Turkish handmade watercolour set sounds awesome! Will you show it when it arrives? I’m really curious now.
I don’t know the inks by Schminke! I have one bottle of liquid watercolor by Schminke called aquacolor…is it the one? Let me know!
About M.Graham. You are really telepathic. I have bought a small set from Jackson’s during the watercolor sale that just finished, I’m planning to unbox and swatch it soon! In Italy it’s very rare and expensive.
We do need a rehab from art supplies hoarding 😃 I’m happy I share this addiction with you (for sure) and many other artists …
Thank you for your cheerful comment Robert! Always great to hear from you.
      Take care! Elisabetta

This set was my first step into artist grade paint from using Cotman. Since I mostly paint line and wash landscapes, this set is absolutely perfect. What a difference stepping up from student grade paints. Just a touch of the brush into the pan is all that's needed. Love it.

    Dear Elisabetta,
So this is a Jane Blundell mixing palette of 15 plus extras to make up the 24. I have worked with Jane, been to a few of her lessons, and her lovely home. We swatch together! I show her some of my handmades, and I try colours from Roman Szmal Aquarius.
On her website, one can see how these mixing palette colours create so many more, or in her 3 books. I like to buy the hardcover books from her, signed, as a great colour reference, her latest book is on triads mixes, uses the fifteen that you have.
Goethite is very useful for our sandstone buildings, it is completely liftable and slightly granulating.
The Jane's Grey is also liftable. So if one was to do a sandstone building, start with goethite, and then when dry, do a glaze of Jane's grey for the shadow areas, or charge the goethite with the Jane's grey.
The Jane's grey is one of the simpler greys with only two pigments, and it is nice, as when it is mixed it has light granulation, sometimes none at all. Some of the Payne's greys are many pigments, with black and are not so liftable.
This Jane's grey makes it not so scary to add dark shadow glazes, as it can all be lifted! So use this as a Payne's grey base to add more ultramarine blue.
When the goethite is mixed with buff titanium, it lightens it for sand, and becomes more granulating.
I think DS serpentine green would make a lovely addition, even though it can be mixed. A few more blues like DS Indanthrone blue, and cobalt and some more lemon yellows/greens. This is a very Australian landscape looking palette of our colours with all of the earth tones. Have a look on her website for DS additions to this set! I prefer to have purples like amethyst ready made. Lunar blue, Lunar red are special granulating colours. Too many too choose. I would have that second palette full in no time!
    In kindred spirit,
