When I was seven years old, Mort Garson came to visit my father at our house. He handed me a copy of "Black Mass By Lucifer." I went in the other room and put it on. There are some processed screaming sounds in the first song (Solomon's Ring) that made a huge impression on me. I wanted to make those sounds.
We had synthesizers at our house. I started playing them constantly and haven't stopped. It's been my living for 25 years. Mort Garson was a huge part of that. He was one of a kind.

@adjusterist Fascinating story! Did or does your father also make music? Do you have any official outlet for your music?

Hi! How are you? I think it's a pretty good story, I don't know if you could tell us more about this man.

any idea as to why he made an album calld "Black Mass" that contains processed sounds of humans screaming? I don't get it, most of his other music seems so incredibly nice and well-meaning.

Mort Garson was a genius . His music and talent will live on forever. Moog should do another commercial with some of Mort"s music and introduce the instrument to todays musicians .

Being a composer/musician/artist is often misunderstood by society.
Just because he composed Black Mass and The Unexplained doesn't mean that he would have an eerie appearance.
The music inspired him. The subject matter was the occult. In many cases if a composer meets a creepy or mysterious person it inspires them to write something.
A composer can also be inspired to write eerie sounding music from having a nightmare or from watching a scary movie.
Perhaps the composer is driving on a desolate highway and off in the distance they see a group of people wearing robes and dancing around a fire. That may inspire the composer to write something dark. It may seem ridiculous to some people, but thats because some people dont understand how art works. The music inspires you. When a composer witnesses certain things in life ...music will come to them as a result of that experience.
It truly does not mean that the composer is a strange person ...or a dark and dangerous person . Not in all cases. Some musicians are influenced by witnessing the darkside and certainly not by participating in it personally. The same applies to Science Fiction writers . Perhaps they thought of disturbing story ideas ...( which later became movies) , based on something that they found intruding to their own life. People who are not dark sometimes write the scariest stories or compose the creepiest music.

I had always wondered about Mort. I was into synths in the '70s (still am), and found the Lucifer album back then and was totally blown away by it-- but never knew anything about the guy. Since, I discovered several other of his albums and now have a small collection, but Lucifer is by far my favorite, has stood the test of time. Classier than other odd old E-faves from the hippy days, such as Tonto's Expanding Headband, White Noise and Nik Pascal. Thanks for unmystifying the mystery man.

Had a copy of "Black mass Lucifer" when I was very young and it scared the crap out of me and was also an interesting album/collection. If you had to describe what the person who wrote this music looked like (especially with that title) you'd never think of how he actually looked! Never knew he wrote "our day will come"! I must hear more.

But 1000 individuals together and 10 will pop up as negligent for others and you never know who is going to make the real bad move: the one who started an idiotic moment or the one who pushed way too far his destruction power by trying to result an quick idiotic event/momentum.
