I often drive down Elizabeth drive and always look across at the works but in seeing this video I can see how much work has been done and that's a lot work! I get very excited at the prospect of the 10 minute drive to be being dropped off at the airport to catch a flight. Thankyou for the video!

Sydneys second airport's getting a new metro and Victoria's main Airport still only has a freeway :( Metro project even got paused :/
wish our old airport in Sydney would get a metro.
Its already got a higer seating capacity rail service.
And about 40 years in the making. They have been talking about that for decades.

I lived in Sydney 1988 and the discussion was 3 Rd runway or badderys Creek. Will be opened by 2028 .

Think of how many construction workers will be available for other projects once these associated works are completed. Residential construction can boom again at the big scale. Great well built infrastructure which will last a century supporting the states economy all the way.
When WSI Airport is complete, it'll be the new main international air gateway to Oceania. Maybe it'll serve newer long distance flights like London-Heathrow, Paris-CDG, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Munich, Istanbul, Seattle, Miami, Atlanta, Washington-Dulles, New York-JFK, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Chicago-O'Hare, Detroit, Denver, Calgary, and Toronto-Pearson, just to name a bunch. I can't pick many South American destinations because it's too far, but I can pick São Paulo-Guarulhos, Rio de Janeiro, and Buenos Aires-Ezeiza, even though they're south of the equator like Australia. Although, SYD Airport serves Santiago, I'll let WSI take that too.
It'll be interesting to see what happens, WSI's got the land ready and waiting for future expansion, though I'm unsure by how much.

In the 60’s and 70’s my dad owned a lot of farm land in Orchard Hills.
In fact I used to drive on my L’s around there.😂
Then the government bought it off him for pittance under the green belt and built western Sydney campus.
Now this..

That train station seems like a long way away from the terminal. Why wouldn’t they have built it directly under the terminal like most modern airports.
Great for Sydney, and very sad for Melbourne, they had a good twenty years to get a rail link to the airport but it's still buses - Melbourne the second rate hub most airlines can't be bothered with - very sad...

Dude... that must be why Melbourne has flights departing and arriving 24 hours a day from airlines all over the world. What's that... what about the curfew I hear you ask... no curfew in Melbourne... just flights arriving and departing to meet the needs of travellers and airlines. Meanwhile on my night flight from Hong Kong into Sydney... "Yeah... we're gonna need to circle around for about 40 minutes and watch the sun rise before we're allowed to land without waking anyone up..." OR.... domestically "Yeah... due to the delay don't e ground here in Cairns.... we've kinda missed out departure time this evening to be able to land in Sydney before the curfew.... so we're not actually taking off tonite.... " Good luck.
Sad for travellers.... and sad that Australia's largest city has no airport rail link... like EVERY other world-class city on the planet.

Was this filmed on a weekend? It seems that in nearly every shot, hardly any activity is going on. Lots of shiny new equipment and nothing much else happening. If this was in the USA, you would see teams of people working 24/7. You would never see equipment sitting idle like those cranes.. No wonder things take so long to happen here in OZ.
Such a modern facility yet will still have a multitude of trucks carrying aviation fuel down the M4! No pipeline from Clyde or Botany. One accident with one of these trucks could shut the M4 for days. I’m surprised that the mayors and politicians in all the suburbs between the fuel imports and the airport aren’t screaming about this impending environmental catastrophe. All the diesel fumes and traffic snarls.
Yes this was a political football at one point I’m not sure if the pipeline issue is settled. The initial report had suggested it wasn’t feasible until 2031 when the second runway and terminal would be open but I think there was upheaval, let’s hope the pipeline will be built for the opening.
Not to mention how delightful it will be for passengers who've just enjoyed 20 hours of travelling to board a train to St Mary's where they then have to get on an already crowded train with all of their luggage and stand up all the way to Sydney. That will be fun.
I'm 71 years old male , I remember the Federal Government announced in February 1986 that Badgerys Creek had been chosen as the location for a second major airport for Sydney ... that as 37 + after few few years on Survey . operation starts 2026 thats another 3 more = 40 years from today 2023 , then it's only on stage ONE ! whatever that means . fully operation date is still unavailable ! typical western government projects , 10 years and 10 times the time and cost from the original plan ...even the current 3rd world country have better management on their government projects !

At the moment South Western Sydney near the Sydney Airport full of traffic during day time, even more traffic than inner Sydney. I reject the job there because I dont want to waste my time travelling to work each day .What do you think will happen 10-20 million tourist arrive there when the Airport complete? The metro station not enough, they need to build more tunnel , more freeway .that why the project delay and people still dont agree with the Airport.
Well done Sydney finally getting a second airport. Its hugh but sad that theres only one runway. Why can't they built 2 runways. its going to be very expensive to built the second runway next time.
For someone living in Randwick for the past 11years, the new airport means noise - NOISE!!!!!!!!! - lots of noise people - you have been living in a previous pristine noiseless area...NOISE and vibrations you have never felt before...............= lots of pissed off people

I believe that the Metro is a downgrade of the rail system. There is not even going to be a direct train link with Mascot, you will have to change trains at Glenfield. This is absolute madness.
The downgrade of the Bankstown line from a 8 car double deck to a 6 car single deck , where passengers will have to change at Bankstown is an act of absolute stupidity. The cost is not warranted. Instead of downgrading the Bankstown line, the Metro should be built to take in another destination.
Metro is actually superior, and capable of carrying more people per hour than heavy rail (especially on the Bankstown line). Metro can run more frequently, so T can carry more people per hour. The fact it’s driverless means it’s less susceptible to sickness or strikes. And to top it off metro is for more suited to an airport line because it makes it easier for people with baggage. Last thing I’d mention is there’s a plan for the WSI to be connected to the Sydney CBD in the future via the metro west line. This will make moving between both airports fairly easy - Mascot to Wynyard, transfer across to the Metro at Hunter st for a direct connection to WSI.

@@sandylanceley3860 The fact the Sydney Metro has a maximum frequency of 4 minutes. The Sydney double deck railways have a frequency of less than 3 minutes on some lines. There is plenty of space on the larger loading gauge double deck trains, I have used them many times to the Airport. On the other hand I have been squashed in over crowded single deck metro trains many times travelling to and from overseas Airports. The proposed Metro system is absolute stupidity. Extending the existing heavy rail line from Leppington would be much cheaper to build, and provide a far quicker direct trip to Kinsford Smith Airport and the City.

Not impressed at the significant distance between the airport station and the terminal. Seems extremely poor planning and a decent walk with luggage when you could have built under or just in front.
There will probably be a shuttle bus going back and forth

It's a tragedy to have two incompatible train networks in our biggest city........
Basically three because airport metros and metro northwests will have different trains and electricity types…

It’s really not. The idea of compatibility is vastly overrated, and indeed has caused Sydney a lot of problems in the past due to the knock on effects of a breakdown.
@@kerrynball2734it’s not the same thing at all. On lines that have frequent services, compatibility can actually be a negative. If too many lines are linked together this can cause knock on effects to reverberate around the network. Independent lines means problems can be isolated, and better technology can be used for future lines.
@@rileyeyeyywhich is perfectly fine. You rarely need rolling stock to move to other lines, and more interchanging can actually create a more reliable network.

Both projects are an example of poor decission making. The railway that should be to this poorly located airport is the heavy rail line from leppington. (the airport should have been built at Wilton)
I remembered that the repeat history of urban design always flawed the future development that it was same compared to London Gatwick Airport as same as St Mary, Sydney of Australia for the predicted flawed event in the future!
So this airport will get a rail line before Melbourne…. FFS!

Labor is reviewing the sky-rocketing state debt left by the Liberals..and the appalling record of the Liberals of completing on time or budget. There is nothing wrong with that. They have cancelled nothing.

It's not a competition for incompetence.. The liberal management of rail in NSW has been terrible.. Two different rail standards for the metros, two different tram standards, Bankstown conversion a mess with no opening date ... and on and on.

Victoria was the state most affected by the pandemic so we are dealing with the cost of that now. Unfortunately, that mean putting off a couple of major projects, such as the airport rail link (that was first promised in 1958...).

Given the relative population sizes, I'd say that has nothing to do with it. It remains true that 45% of the federal infrastructure budget goes to NSW, nearly all of it to Sydney.
When Victoria started removing level crossings, Andrews approached then PM Tony Abbott, who flatly refused to help at all, saying that the federal government only helps fund roads (this was a lie). As a result, the Victoria Government has had to go it alone in this massive project.

@@thethirdman225 The point I’m making is the 45% is a snapshot in time. It can’t always be equal, because sometimes a large project will need funding that makes the spend disproportionate to the population size. In this case it was the WSI airport and associated railway. (The railway was shared in cost)
NSW is 33% of Australia’s population, a window where it gets 45% is only a 25% increase above its population. Not significant given a major project is being done that this city needs desperately (a 24hr airport)

Sould have built a verry fast train Sydney to Melbourne, then there would be ano need for a second Airport.
