I'm glad you have this video. I just had fun trying to turn the engine off. Was hoping to get it lined up again to turn it off. Very close to killing it with the clutch.
The old lock had the chrome gm style thingy where the key inserts then the new one has chrysler style with the double cut key. Guess the gm columns were used all over.
I have a 1990 yj & itll start but turning it off is another thing I switch the ignition off & it takes it about a minute to completely shut off is that the cylinder or something else?
Need help here: will the engine crank/turn if you use a pliers instead of the ignition cylinder and key?(I removed the ignition cylinder) or does it need the ignition cylinder and key?
I have an ignition problem on my 92 YJ. Cannot get spark. No indications on light panel when you turn the key from position zero to one. Starter engages fine and engine cranks great, and fuel flow is good. No spark How do I confirm the ignition switch is bad before I tear into the steering column? Ty Bachmann
The cylinder can be installed with the key in it ...and the only thing that you need to replace the cylinder with is the key. You don't have to take apart the steering wheel
Performed this fix today, as soon as I reassembled, it wouldn’t start, not even a starter click. Dash lights still work, just nothing when I turn the key, which feels normal. Thoughts?
Great videos. I have an 87 YJ pretty much stock. Changed my cylinder because I have the opposite problem, the cylinder spins loosely. After changing the lock cylinder is still loose and won't start the engine. When I turn to on in doesn't spring back. Is that issue? Thanks for you help.
@@burtmartin9249 Replacing the cylinder didn't help. I had to replaced the plastic sector gear thing that's in the opposite side of the key cylinder. The teeth broke off which prevented it to roll back. It was called Steering column ignition lock sector actuator kit for tilting column. I bought it on eBay.
Put the key in the cylinder and slightly turn it back and forth while putting it in. If you hold the cylinder and turn the key you will see how it works.
@@JeepSolid the parts inside look identical to the 64-72 maybe even alittle latter GM cars and trucks... I had numerous GM A bodies in high school... Many of those tilt columns would get loose, and I would have to take them apart and fix them...
Changed out my key cylinder today... Had to refer to your video... Thank you Dale!!! You are the best... Easy peasy!!!!
Awesome! Thanks

Carburetor...? Close the butterfly and choke it off.

These videos are super helpful! Thank you! But my spring is so much stiffer I’m not sure I can compress it by hand
You explained everything but the ignition lock lever. I’m struggling finding replacement parts and/or reassembly info. Do you have recommendations?
Something I have to do myself soon... probably will you your Amazon link...

Try this after you get it together... insert key turn back to accessorie or close to it, while pulling out the cylinder. It's that simple.
Thanks for the info
Still trying to guess your occupations.... Lol
I'm guessing school teacher...

I didn't think you could swap the chevy tumblers for the dodge tumblers.

I have the same issue. Did you find a solution?

I have to install one on my 94 when it goes back together. Did you sell FUNGUS yet? And you are getting good at the hat toss!!
Haha! Thanks. Haven’t sold fungus yet. Finishing up a few things on it
New ignition wont go in even though it's the same part, any suggestions?

What if you can't get key to on position will it still come out?
Try to get the cylinder to turn back to accessorie. Do this while pulling out the cylinder...use wd 40 if you need to.
can u please post part1
It's linked in the description of this video. Hope it helps
Just like the old GM columns
Yeah? Not super complicated.

Yep. I think the older Jeeps...like the CJ's actually had GM columns.
