    My budgie makes a weird sound, like a squeezing sound, it sounds like ''gargling''
    he can sit on hes perch and chirp, then sometimes he makes that sound.
    he is not doing any gestures while making the sound.
    do you think hes trying to talk? or might he have some slime in hes throat?

    Dr Perry, why do you wash the crop of the budgie? I know you talk about taking samples but you would not do that on a normal basis would you?

      In my budgies case she was vomiting alot so I took her to avian vet and she washed and checked what was causing it

    My parrotlet is the sweetest most affectionate bird in the world. Well-trained and well-behaved. She even likes it when I put my hand on her when she's sitting by me. But if I had the audacity to try and pet her after I shoved an object down her throat, she wouldn't even be mad. Just disappointed and questioning our entire relationship. Probably low-key poop on my favorie shoes when I'm not watching.

    Dear doctor. I'm wondering how the tube can go such deep into some place where normally has to be the stomach. Isn't the crop right under the throat and supposed to be the half way of what the tube goes. I checked the budgie anatomy after this vid still the distance seems confusing to me but as you prove, it goes smoothly without resistance. My question on the other hand is since it is a very disturbing technique could the swab culture taken from like the back of the tongue be enough for the diagnosis of a yeast or bacterial infection? My vet suggested it. I'm not sure if it's because she can not apply this one though

    • @DoctorRossPerry
      @DoctorRossPerry  6 років тому +1

      A swab from the back of the tongue only samples that area and does not reveal things down the throat and into the crop; the crop is at the base of the neck immediately in front of the breast bone. The crop sampling technique focuses on sampling from the crop but the outside of the tube collects cells etc from the back of the tongue all the way to the crop and if rolled onto a microscope slide before they dry these can be examined as well. Each time the bird eats or drinks or swallows some will also pass into the crop from further up the canal. Hence I generally do crop washes when working orthodoxly. Unorthodoxly I use a pendulum and charts. Ross Perry

      @@DoctorRossPerry Thanks so much Mr Perry. You have given thorough information. My vet is not qualified or equipped for this operation as I've foreseen. There aren't many avian vet.s in Turkey. But during the visit my bird vomited and made it possible to take a sample. I hope that works. In the meantime she is taking antifungal treatment for her likely crop infection. Congrats fot the precious work you are making.

      @@isilti2 Thank you for your empathetic comments . I do appreciate them and I appreciate you. All the vet has to do is to change his or her attitude. A crop tube can be made from a tom cat catheter and he can practice on a dead bird while watching this video and quickly master the skill. He can now proceed to learn Gram stain techniques and more and start becoming more qualified. Blessings, Ross

    My cockatiel baby (25 days old) having sour crop
    His crop not emptying
    Please suggest me what to do

    • @DoctorRossPerry
      @DoctorRossPerry  4 роки тому

      His crop needs to be emptied and warm wet fresh and Gram stained smears prepared and examined microscopically for excess Gram-negative rods, staphylococci, Streptococci, budding yeasts and pseudohyphae, and motile Trichomonas sp. flagellated protozoa, among other things. He needs apprropriate treatment for what is found. Orthodoxly this might involve use of an antibiotic, anti fungal and occasionally treatment for Trichomoniasis. I highly recommmend you take him to a bird vet asap. An unorthodox approach could be to give him ZeoActiv8 twice a day for 7-10 days, and tube feeding as necessary.. Blessings, Ross Perry
