How To Lubricate A Treadmill

  • How to lube treadmill deck/belt. I use silicone based lubricant directly from the treadmill manufacturer. My treadmill is a Sole F85, but the process is the same for most treadmills. My treadmill gets used pretty hard as I use it to train for marathons. During the winter months, I run on it for an hour or two a day, seven days a week. So it takes a beating. If you maintain your treadmill, it should last for thousands of miles.

Except when their advice ends up destroying your investment... Ive tried to make my voice loud and clear on here, in hopes it will stop more people from ruining their treadmills. RJ could have a nice helpful video if he updated it with proper advice.
Sooner or later the wrong person is going to wreck their treadmill and may, in fact, bring a case to his door.

@@champspec your voice is definitely not loud and clear. I could not even find another post by you in the comments section. Instead of spreading fear about this video, why don't you try explaining the right way to do it. This smells like an alternate youtube channel trying to corall traffic.

Ben Wall there should be a handful of comments that I left on this video explaining the proper procedure. Apparently Sole had taken the initiative to update their owners manual.... the amount of Lube to apply can vary slightly. Factors would he the brand and material of the belt, the size of the deck and belt, the climate and location of the treadmill, and obviously the amount of use the treadmill gets. From a general standpoint, i think about 1/4 of an ounce of silicone would be a good starting point if the unit has never been lubricated. Newer belts and decks have less wear, so they need less lube. One key point is that you are actually to be lubricating the Deck, not the belt. The belt will retain some of the lube, though. No way to avoid it. If you see the belt getting saturated with wet spots, you’re probably using too much lube or the belt is worn out. If its a brand new belt that this is happening on, you’ve probably got yourself more of an expensive clothes hanger than an exercise machine. Best of Luck!

@@champspec hey man. just read your comment. I was surprised that he used the whole bottle too. My instructions say "measure 18 inchs from the edge of the moter cover, reach under the belt approximately 4-6 inch for one edge. Squirt a line of lubricant about 1/8 inch wide and 15 inchs long in a "s" pattern perpendicular to the mother cover" - didn't plan on using a bottle. just a squirt.
To clarify, the rest was ok? the way he loosened the belt and stuff? I need to lube it and nervous I am gonna misalign the belt and not be able to straighten it.

Great video nothing wrong with what you did thank you for sharing this. But I work for a company that I set up 5 treadmills a day and as well do maintenance and lubing belts. An easier more simple way is to keep the belt how it is and get this foam wand. Put a strip of liquid lubricant on both sides of the foam that feed between the deck and belt. Work it back and forth and that’s all you need. Do it once a year and take cover off to motor and vacuum out any dust or pet hair that might gunk up sensors and electrical components. This way you don’t have to mess with loosening the belt and readjust it back to normal because if it’s not perfectly back to normal the belt will start wondering to the left and right and then you have to keep messing with it to get it just right. Just my opinion but the way you did it will work as well! Thank you

Where do you get a foam wand?

    • @champspec
      @champspec 10 місяців тому +10

This is actually very poor advice.. the lubricant is supposed to be applied to the deck, not the belt. Once a year for a silicone based lubricant is harly enough. Even if it just sits there with little to no use, the lubricant will evaporate in about 2 months or less… lubricate the center 10” of the deck every 30-40 hours of use. Lubricate Sparingly. A 1 oz bottle should last you two years. second point you make has good intentions, but is also poor advice. Yes, You should clean under the belt and motor cover periodically. But you should not use a vacuum near the control board or electrical components. The carbon inside the motor will also destroy a vacuum cleaner. Best way to clean out under the motor cover is with compressed air. Be sure to wear a mask and safety glasses when doing so.

I was kind-of intimidated to to this because I didn't want to mess up my treadmill's belt. With your help, I was done in 5 minutes and the belt tightened up again perfectly. Your 5 and 5 technique is excellent.

My treadmill has been getting so hot when I walk on it and slipping when I run.
I had no idea how to fix it until I watch your video on diagnosing a slipping treadmill mat and this video!!
I don't have the money to pay someone else to "fix" it, nor to get a gym membership, so I am so thankful to you!!
I've ordered some treadmill lubricant and can't wait to fix this myself 🥳 then get back to my running program!

NOTE: This product works exactly as described. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxguEIMc_Qwab-3QMTpF6jaRL80hiOOsIN It originally earned a four-star review due to a minor defect (see below). However, the manufacturer's customer service rep (Lita) went above and beyond the call of duty and deserves five stars now. I wish I could give even more!I purchased this item which arrived quickly. Assembly instructions were easy to follow. There was only one problem: One bolt did not screw into the hole properly. I called the company. Their customer service rep (Lita) was terrific! She took all my information and submitted a request to replace the defective part. I'm hoping to finish assembly and start using this treadmill soon. (Fingers crossed...)FOLLOW UP: Lita called back to inform me that the company will send a replacement part AND a technician(!!) to install it properly. AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Thank you!!

I've been avoided lubing (and therefor using) my treadmill because I thought it would be a long, tedious process. Thanks so much for posting this quick and easy tutorial! I used Teflon & Silicon lube from Treadmill Doctor because I've long since lost/misplaced the original tube from Sole. Glad to say the treadmill is lubed and ready to go!

Still read your manuals folks. F85 manual says apply PERPENDICULAR to motor cover and it doesn’t mention loosening belt first… possibly because you only have to reach under belt 4 - 6” in from belt’s edge and you do not need to apply lubricant at the center of belt. Read manual first, watch video afterwards. When lubricating some items don’t apply more than you need to. Also, the interval to apply for his treadmill is longer than my F85.
