George Foster and Ken Griffey, formerly from the Big Red Machine, are playing in that game. Also Keith Hernandez and Ken Oberkfell, former teammates of the 1982 Champion St. Louis Cardinals in that game too.
Vintage Vin Scully and Joe Garagiola: Scully letting the game breathe after Carter’s Grand Slam. Garagiola referring to Palmer’s curveball as a “room service” that Carter whacked for his first round tripper. Thanks so much for posting this. A beautiful reminder of how fortunate we were to have Vin and Joe calling the game we love.
Thank you for posting this. I was at this game as a 12 year old sitting up in the upper 8 or so rows of Shea which were considered General Admission back then. Have always remembered going to the game where Gary Carter hit a home run and then Strawberry got hit starting the brawl. Then Carter hit a grand slam later in the game. My dad was booing during the brawl, but my 12 year old self thought it was amazing! Best game ever for a young Mets fan.
Offseason means old games on UA-cam to get through the long cold winter. Am I the only one? But I think I watched this live at my grandmother's house. Also let's build a ballpark next door to an airport. What could go wrong?
I'm certain I saw this game when I was 10. Was living in Chappaqua New York & would move to Atlanta a month later. It aired on my mom's B Day of all days. Grew up a Yankees fan but would also become a Braves fan after spending two years in ATL
Glad I found this channel. Please, please, please help me find April 23rd 1992, Mets vs. Cardinals and July 5th, 2000, Mets vs. Marlins. I wanna see Daryl Boston's 1-0 walkoff HBP in the bottom of the 13th and also Eric Cammack's one career at bat that went for a triple.
Bob Horner hit 139 of his 218 career home runs at Fulton County Stadium which is 63.8%. Center was 405 ft while right-center and left-center were 375 ft. Mike Schmidt had similar dimensions in Philadelphia but he hit 265 home runs at home and 283 home runs on the road.
Horner's advantage was the altitude at Fulton County Stadium. The ball carries much better in the high altitude. Schmidt didn't have that in Philadelphia
I agree James, it was a blast to watch, you really cared about the games and MLB during this period, unlike the 2000's and today, I'm glad I stopped watching in the late 90's,, I tried a couple of times to get back into it but I didn't find it exciting or fun at all,
The Mets were angry that the Cincinnati Reds came into town and swept them in 3 games at Shea after the Mets took care of the Astros 4 out of 5 during the 4th weekend also at Shea. Here comes the pitiful Atlanta Braves and boy were they the perfect medicine for the Mets to regroup!!! Lol
They also had all the tools to win in 1988 vs Los Angeles Dodgers but that Game 4 Doc Gooden who pitched masterful was tired and Davey Johnson didn't go to the bullpen, Mike Scioscia I the 9th inning with 1 on killed us. They went on to win both games 4 and 5 to advance 3-2 heading back to Los Angeles, while David Cone pitched incredible complete in game 6 to tie the series Oral Hershiser on 2 days rest mind you pitched a 7-0 complete game to nail in the coffin. I still think had Davey Johnson went to relief Mets would have won game 4 going 3-1 and worse case scenario won game 6 which they did and advanced to meet the Oakland A's in the 88 Fall Classics, sucks but that's baseball.
NBC did it on and off in the mid-'80s. I remember they did a Friday night game on September 7, 1984 at Shea between Mets and Cubs. Dwight Gooden pitched a one-hit 10-0 shutout. Only hit was an infield single by Keith Moreland. BTW they also won this game 11-0.
I vividly remember watching this game at my cousin’s house. I remember the 2 HR’s by Carter and the idiot pitcher hitting Strawberry which caused the brawl…. Also remember that idiot Scully being more disappointed that the Braves pitcher got knocked around, I always thought that jackass Scully had an anti-NY bias
Um Vin Scully is a native New Yorker. How could he have an anti NY bias? The guy started broadcasting the BROOKLYN Dodgers in 1950 until they moved to LA. It's Vin Scully and everyone else when it comes to best sportscasters of all time.
VINCE AND JOE GARAGIOLA, TWO UNFORGETABLE VOICES.
I miss Gary Carter💔
George Foster and Ken Griffey, formerly from the Big Red Machine, are playing in that game. Also Keith Hernandez and Ken Oberkfell, former teammates of the 1982 Champion St. Louis Cardinals in that game too.

It was such a simpler time then!
Best of times.
How bout those 1986 Mets, the CRAZIEST team in baseball history! LFGM!!!
Taking Palmer out right before Strawberry was about to come up AGAIN was a smart move at 53:05! NOT taking him out would've resulted in another brawl.
I saw this live on TV exactly 38 years ago, give or take a few hours. (Posting on July 11, 2024)
1985-1990 was sheer hell to be a Braves fan
A Western Division team on the Atlantic Ocean 🌊
Yeah they were absolute dog doo doo with the whole nation with cable watching them.
Stuck by them through all that.
The biggest screw up by the organization in the 80's was firing manager Joe Torre. How dumb could they be? They got what they deserved.
I remember thinking, "Why is this crappy team always on TV!?".
DALE MURPHY, a true gent on and off the field.
Offseason means old games on UA-cam to get through the long cold winter. Am I the only one?
But I think I watched this live at my grandmother's house.

Fucking Palmer! I could only laugh at Carter's 2nd home run and requisite curtain call 🤣
The 2nd HR was a terrible pitch that missed the target especially on a 0-2 count with 2 outs.
Boy, those were days!! NO LOUSY DH IN THE NATIONAL LEAGUE.
Carter's three-run homer: 23:31
Strawberry vs. Palmer: 24:44
Carter's grand slam: 51:29
Palmer definitely hit Strawberry cuz of Carter fist pumping to the crowd. BOTH STAYED IN THE GAME. Thats crazy.
I miss Vin Scully and Joe G. Super great voices.
I never saw that before where the player who charged the mound is allowed to stay in the game even theb pitcher continued. ...
Bench clearing fight on national TV in this one.
And amazingly no one was ejected after the brawl.
I haven't watched this, but when I saw fight and Mets, I figured Ray Knight had to be involved 😅
I'm certain I saw this game when I was 10. Was living in Chappaqua New York & would move to Atlanta a month later. It aired on my mom's B Day of all days. Grew up a Yankees fan but would also become a Braves fan after spending two years in ATL
Wow tooo bad

86 Mets were loaded. Best team I ever saw.

The lighting setup had been in place for several years, you'd think that Vin or Joe would have noticed that.
24:44
Geez. Even Porkchop 🥩 had 2 hits!
This is when baseball was fun to watch It was on NBC and nobody took a knee I missed those days
I am yet to see a baseball player take a knee, but ok, you, like others, seem obsessed by that.
I agree James, it was a blast to watch, you really cared about the games and MLB during this period, unlike the 2000's and today, I'm glad I stopped watching in the late 90's,, I tried a couple of times to get back into it but I didn't find it exciting or fun at all,
How to tell someone is a q-anon believer without telling the world he is a q-anon believer.

This 86 Mets team was a team everybody loves 2 hate but at least they accomplished something by winning the world series

@@joeyphenomenal i was dying to see that match up but the dodgers lol....
@@joeyphenomenal Oakland would have killed the Mets in the WS
PBP: Vin Scully
Why did the announcers share microphone back then?
NBC was cheap
It was a game of rumbles.
Did NBC cover games on Friday Nights for a bit only in 1986? (Or did they do it in other years) Besides the Saturday game of the week.
THOSE WERE THE DAYS. NATIONAL LEAGUE UMPIRES ARE NL UMPIRES ONLY.
Was always just a slightly-over .500 pitcher, but David Palmer had one of the best curve balls I ever saw.
STRAWBERRY DIDN'T A BIGGER BASE TO EVENTUALLY BE A 30-30 PLAYER.
It was very difficult in those days to be a BRAVE fan.
Braves with worst road uniforms ever
They could have used a bit of contrast adding bit of their red secondary color. Their previous two road unis were far superior!
Mets won it 11-0
That "thumbs down" had to be a mistake...
that thumbs down was probably from a yankee fan
from David Palmer's mum .
Braves canned Joe Torre and went straight down the toilet. Dumbest thing Ted Turner ever did.
In 1986 the BRAVE'S pitchers would last until the 5th inning. Just like today's METS' starters.
Look at BACKMAN bunt!! Today's so called hitters can't do that.
I vividly remember watching this game at my cousin’s house. I remember the 2 HR’s by Carter and the idiot pitcher hitting Strawberry which caused the brawl…. You are literally the only person that dislikes Vin Scully. I have to say the description jackass probably fits you better.

Not an anti-NY bias but rather an anti-Mets bias, maybe?!?🤔😆
