@@ChrisRumin No, Tiger was well known to be arrogant and aloof on Tour. It irked the other players but they knew he was bringing in the money so they never really said much.
Going back and watching these tournaments has made me realize what a N tiger was. He stalked around like a petulant child like the world owed him. His Asian side lost to his N side and in the end he was nothing but a N.
Angel overcame a lot of adversity on this day. At one point 3 back on the back 9 and managing to save par in the first playoff hole. He was on the final pairing in 11’ and 13’ as well. Also Phil and Tiger really put on a memorable show here just couldn’t keep it together on the back 9
That front 9 of Tiger/Phil..... I was fortunate to have seen this live from the back of the 8th Green. When Tiger dropped that putt we all thought here comes that charge.
angel cabrera is one of my all time favorite golfers the way he smoked that cigar the year he won the us open was one of the coolest things to see he was in position A that day and he ended up in position A on this day too.
Special? Strange. Faldo can’t believe how dumb they played the back nine. He knows something about golf. In a way comforting to see that these players (the very best of their generation) can completely loose it.
Phil had to be thinking 63, or possibly lower, as crazy as that may seem, because 33 is feasible on the back nine. Helluva front side, the 12th struck again, and it's gotten practically all the greats a one time or other.
Felt HORRIBLE for Kenny Perry. ONE INCH FROM WINNING OUTRIGHT. And Angel had already won his major two years before. The only moment I hated worse was when Tiger birdied the 18th the next year at the US Open and robbed Rocco Mediate of what would have been his only major. So sad. Tiger's missed a million putts, including some critical ones in this tournament. WHY couldn't he have missed that one?
Wow... so nice remember that day.... Kenny Perry on the 16 smile like a winner. but Angel make a .great comeback and Win !!! 1 first Argentinien making story and make feel very proud.
The only time in decades of watching the Masters that I felt that all three,Cabrera,Campbell and Perry deserved green jackets, they played wonderfully under intense pressure and very tough to finish with a sudden death playoff.
It's so funny watching when you know the result, but Perry missed two birdie putts on Sunday, either one wins him a green jacket, so Cabera earned it and deserves it.
I'm surprised Chad Campbell never won a major. I was always impressed with his ball-striking. But winning majors is extremely hard to do. Cabrera had that huge break, when he clanked a ball off the tree back into the fairway.
I remember watching this live. Watching again tonight one thing I noticed is that it looked like the adrenaline rush Kenny experienced from that tee shot on 16 seemed to effect him on 17 and 18 (especially 17). He looked nervous for the first time all day (but then again who could blame him). Great tournament though with Tiger and Phil dueling it out early and Kenny, Angel and Chad dueling it out late.
What a beautiful divot by Angel Cabrera on the first playoff hole approach shot to 18. I still don't know how those pros hit those so perfect. Your typical hacker will never hit a divot unless he misses the shot.
The coverage of the leaders was utterly disgusting that day, remember the bb c going mad about it. Angel was friggin leading yet we hardly see him in the front 9
Perry lost It On 17,, pressure got to him,,,his irons left him after...I love tournament where guys play their best and take..I hat it when they hang around and others choke it away...unfortunately, that's golf!!!
I forgot how Angel Cabrera was a fun player to watch. He stepped right up and hit it. No figetting around like so many current players (Brian Harman 🙄🙄)
This was the second major kenny Perry lost by making bogey on 18 And losing In the playoff. 1996 PGA championship he bogied 18 while leading by 1 over Mark Brooks.
I’m sorry but why wasn’t Angel Cabrera not at this years Champions dinner? Could it have anything to do with his convictions for domestic violence? Just wondering.
Am I wrong in thinking that Mickelson is great on straight putts, but the world leader on curving putts? After watching too much golf over the decades, that's the feeling I get.
Bruh I can’t believe angel won when he had the worst second shot of all time on that first playoff hole. Kenny should’ve won for sure. Great playing angel
Not really. Sure they probably exaggerated it but Tiger presented himself as this clean cut perfect guy and it was fake. His image has never totally recovered after it in my opinion.
Woods might be a great golfer but he looks joyless to me. It's a job. That's why he always looks pained in the face. No joy. Shame. I would not like to play a sport with an attitude like Woods.
This was the first Masters I watched. Really the first golf tournament I watched all the way through from Thursday to Sunday. Great memories.
Watching this hurts my heart. Poor Kenny Perry.
Class act from him, paying respect to the winner and talking about the chipping yip on 17th that made him lose a Masters he deserved.
He choked
yeah, poor choking pos.
that thrill to victory masters highlights theme will never die, i hope its kept for the next 100 years.
This is the one and only Masters I've been to. Will never forget running down the tenth to get to the green to see the finish!
Cabrera was a streaky player, but when the big moments came around, he often delivered.
His biggest weakness was a strong right hook...with the ladies.
Congrats to Angel.
Kenny's interview at the end was such a class act.
This one had it all. Well worth the 5 hours. No commercials.
Tigers interviews back then were completely joyless, and adversarial. Stark contrast to interviews conducted today

Kenny Perry a proper Gent. Also like the pace of Angel play (and I won £125 on him).
Cabrera is clutch. Par on 18 was all world. And it helped that he got into a playoff with 2 chokers.
Dan Aykroyd came so close to win a green jacket !

Why didn't Perry stick around on the 72nd hole to shake Cabrera's hand?
If Phil made ANYTHING this day he would've won by two. Wild.
This proves the old saying true golf is a game of inches! Poor Kenny was oh so close!
I was there .. I love that place.. was truly epic
I’ve learned when you’re opponent hits it into the middle of the woods and it bounces back out into the fairway, you aren’t beating them that day.

Angel’s birdie at 16 and clutch pars at 17,18 won the tournament for him.
