I can't imagine how anarchic and depraved this must have looked so soon after the Victorians and Edwardians. The 20s really made today possible.

    • @Sawrattan
      @Sawrattan 7 років тому +18

Canuck Patriot you're right in many ways, though right now I see more similarities with the late 20s - early 30s than 60s (financial recession, extremist politics, rising backlash against social "liberal" attitudes, worship of money, fast living)

True, but it had nothing on the decadence of the Roman Empire. What goes around comes around.

Because of the technology of the time, the cameras had to film at a low frame rate - (15 fps) So in order to play them without a shutter or flicker, they had to be sped up :)

Regardless of how archaic this must seem the fact is Cole Porter's music is timeless. Even today this song can raise eyebrows. Clever, fun, very lively and musical and very suggestive.

    Lyrics
    We're all alone,
    No chaperon
    Can get our number,
    The world's in slumber,
    Let's misbehave!
    There's something wild
    About you, child,
    That's so contagious,
    Let's be outrageous,
    Let's misbehave!
    When Adam won Eve's hand,
    He wouldn't stand
    For teasin',
    He didn't care about
    Those apples out of season!
    They say the Spring
    Means just one thing
    To little lovebirds;
    We're not above birds,
    Let's misbehave!
    [Instrumental]
    Let's misbehave!
    [Instrumental]
    Let's misbehave!
If you'd be just so sweet
    And only meet
    Your fate, dear,
    'Twould be the great
    Event of nineteen twenty-eight,
    Dear!
    [Instrumental]
    Let's misbehave!

Oh, to be young and surrounded by art deco opulence, extravagance, wealth, and experiencing a new modern type of fun. During those times when sleazy swing music, a convergence of exotic cultures and music was exploding in the underground must have been one hell of a time to be alive in.... then the 30's came : (

The end of the war, the up rising of women in the 1920's is why i believe I'm so captivated by it. The dancing, the 19th amendment woman having the right to vote, the fashion, dancing, how everybody gained a free spirit no matter how brief due the crash of the stock market leading to the great depression. So much history, to go back in time for just a week to see all that in real life. All them flappers/vamps considered not lady like, if they saw us now in 2015!! Lol

Many of the scenes in this montage are taken from Fritz Lang's film Metropolis (with surprisingly good quality, Sir Riehl). That was a 1927 German sci-fi film about the future. It's funny about popular entertainment and it's portrayal of social movements. The Jazz Age (flappers), Beatniks, Hippies. The pop entertainment industry has always sought to package and sell them.

@greengringo2003 I am not a leftist. I am just opposing any kind of totalitarianism, either communist or capitalist. After your comment I checked what political view Lang wanted to show on imdb. You are right. I admit that I misinterpreted the movie's original intent, shouldn't have posted here without checking. But it's strange that if you don't read about it's historical background (like me), you can easily view it as a criticism of exploitation of the lower class in today's terms also.
