These are such great discussions. Really, really appreciate your looking deeply into the influence of different materials, constructions and what is heard, and what can be measured beyond what is typically realized. I thought I was going mad until Alpha Audio came along!! Thank you Jaap, and thank you Ole 🙏🏼
Ik snap niet waar jullie het over hebben. Als ik in de luisterstoel zit kijk ik naar de specificaties van mijn versterker met mijn hand aan het potlood and everything is good.
Amazing one! I hope as a speaker manufacturer myself, that more would understand that measurements is not everything. At least for now, our knowledge of what we can measure in audio is not impressive, when it comes to hifi, not many are investing in knowing more, as the business is not that big. So we rely on very old and basic things here. Measurements are very important tools, but they are far from given the full "picture" :)
Hello, Interesting discussion, thanks for sharing. Many people turn the measurement results into specification data for a product and this is often the advantage of an audio product, and all audio brands do this. but we do not know under what conditions the test was carried out. marketing merchandise? and I remember the words of a DIY Audio Maestro - SAKUMA SAN (rip) - "Audio is not a slave of measurement instrument"
This one is so easy I wrote this comment before watching 5 seconds. Listening is the only thing. If it measures perfectly but you don’t like the sound then what exactly is your point? A person turns on the system and listens to music. They don’t plug their ears and watch a computer screen. If you use measurements to limit your list of things to audition that’s fine. But you are only gonna buy the one that you like the sound of best.
This two gentelmans hit a nail on a head with some statements and cues. Even I am not in a ortodox "cables absolutely matters" camp, I do appreciate their work as overall contribution of knowledge in a Hi-fi. Mein statements and cues would be: - the measurements on ASR channel do tell you almost nothing about the gears's sound - some of DAC's measured great -as a role model - sounds to me artificial, without of a true essence in notes, they are clean liveless and no live instrument and music sounds so... I would guess they are technicaly so clean and "right" done in this limited measurement register that they are over done - cleaned up also wanted harmonies, - somehow the same is valid for new Hegel amps - they have strong pros, but for instance listening live classical recordings, its sound - in this exegeratet black background - like they were performed almost in heavy dampend studio with no ability of ambience presentation of the concert hall ambience and live harmonies. - I was also very dissaponted with so much prised Kef Ref 1 Meta - just very clean sound, but also liveless with reduced air - limited upper harmonies, I guess.
" The Music Lives" in millivolts and microamps ( So the sound is like a human fetus) in the birth canal. We should consider how the blue LED was made it took 70 years and the actual Electron flow through has to be just RIGHT....
Meeste professionals hebben geen idee waar Abraham de mosterd haalt. Veel kabelfabrikanten ook niet, Electronen hebben massa: contemplatie wat dat doet voor geleiders die bkootstaan aan trillingen. ist angesagt. Enough said.
I have one thing to add, the term musicality also differs from person to person. Personally, I just want a system to be honest, give me all the good and bad in the recording, no noise, distortion or msg added, just as it is.
I hypothesise that there are areas of common ground in defining musicality that combine clarity, melody, speed and timbre. There may be other elements.
Have you guys bounced any of these tests and correlations off of Electrical Engineers ? Not just one or two. A few of them so they can peer review your tests.
What is your opinion on damping factor? If there is a video that you have addressed damping favor please direct me. Curious of your opinion. For example the technics G700M2 I have has a damping factor around 30 but I don’t feel I am missing something using 30ft/9m length Belden 10guage wire. What would I listen for?
@@supergwizzo Ah. Ok. But do know that distortion is additional. So every link in the chain will add something... No matter how clean the source... Every step will add something. So you want every link to be as clean as possible.
Latest Marantz AVRs has default filter which gives distortion and highs roll out, they call it "Marantz sound", they recommend filter removing only for calibration. Intresting option.
Maybe the phenomenon of vinyl records is due to their lower susceptibility to interference from the power supply network. (this is because the power cable has a large impact on the sound, which seems pointless). I prefer streaming

As long as the gear has less distortion then the dirtyist recording all good from there. 😊

There also a tradeoff in money. With more expensive building material and good research it is possible to bake a bigger pie 🤔.
