Hi, Thanks for your videos, Im just getting back into window cleaning after being away from the trade for about 15 yrs and the videos are of great help. Steve East Devon.
Firstly, thank you for taking the time out of your day to do this video, really balanced and chokk full of tips. I do find trad very satisfying, I used to do trad commercially, you build up speed but you're chasing the dollar! Nice one mate, I learn something every time! 👌🏻👊🏻
Great to see a few different techniques on same windows. One thing that I always think is missing on an instructional type video is speed. While people need to see things slowed down to learn it would be great to see an example at your normal working speed to see what is attainable speed wise while still maintaining quality.
Pete, just love your videos. I'm from "across the pond" in California. I have become obsessed with window cleaning having bought a vacation home on the Oregon coast. The house is on a bluff on the beach. Beautiful windows facing the ocean. In Oregon the weather is typical coastal, storms mist corrosive fog etc. The windows constantly get covered with s#@$^&*%$#. I was bound and determined to learn how to clean windows myself cuz very few window cleaners is this rural area. What I have found is such a wonderful community of independent window cleaning businesses, people establishing their own companies, making a go of it and surviving. and you contribute so much to that world. God bless ya. I am getting better at cleaning my OWN windows thanks to you and (I still struggle) am learning how to fan😂 Thank you, I wish the best for you

Hey, really enjoying your videos! I've been cleaning windows for nearly a year doing single pull s all the time 🙈 I'm determined to get my skills up for this summer to try and be more efficient. Can you tell me, do you use razor glide all of the time now in your bucket?
Hey 👋🏻 I don't use it all the time no. The main thing is putting washing up liquid directly on to the washer. That's the important thing. If you ever need one to one training, check out my website tradmanacademy.com 👍🏻
Hi, thanks for the video.. Think i found the reason, why i've got turn marchs All the time. 👍 What is your doing if you have to do the inside, on a Sunny Day? Greatings from denmark. ☀️
😉👍🏻 On insides I'll put a towl down and do the same method just make sure the applicator is not completely saturated in water or you'll have a very wet towel quickly lol. You get a feel for how much to use with practice. Same process though, dunk applicator in water, squeeze out a little water, add soap to applicator and go 😊
Hello! Unfortunately, I live very far away from you (in Ukraine), so I can't treat you to whiskey, but I will be very happy if you still answer my question (just one small question :) ) I am not a professional window cleaner, I only wash windows in my apartment, but I want to be good at it. So, I bought a squeegee and started practicing, but there is one problem that I can’t deal with - when I pull the squeegee near the edge of the frame, it does not pull water / soap 0.5 - 1 cm from the edge. The rubber blade of the squeegee runs onto the rubber seal of the window frame, due to which the corner of the rubber blade bends off and, apparently, does not fit snugly against the glass, so I have to wipe the edges after squeegee. But I noticed that rubber seal of my window doesn't form sharp edge like in this video, where rubber seal adjacent almost perpendicularly to the glass surface. My squeegee is a VDM Pulex (it is very similar to the Unger Ergotec shown in one of your videos). It is considered professional, so I think that the problem is not in it, but in my wrong actions. I tried different options - pull the squeegee strictly perpendicular to the edge of the frame, at an acute angle, at an obtuse angle, I tried at different angles with respect to the plane of the glass. But the result is always the same - an unwashed strip remains near the sealing gum. Thanks in advance.
Such a good video. So we’ll explained. Exactly what I was looking for. We have a house with so much glass and of height that I needed to know how to clean my windows properly and the best tools to use. Well explained. What company did you buy all the tools from please inc all the accessories?
Hey Pete great to meet you at the show on Saturday outside ,me and my trad wife 🙂 hope you had a good time with Dave . Can I ask where you got the soap bottle from , cheers John.
Hey 👋🏻 Was great to meet you to 😊🤜🏻🤛🏻 Yeah I had a great time thanks 😊 The soap bottle was a moerman soap. The squeeze deluxe. Once I finished it I kept the bottle and changed the top cap to the fairy liquid cap. 👍🏻
I've never tried a ladder m8rix buddy so not sure on that but possibly they would give the size of the ladder m8rix on the website and could compare that with the base of the ladder? 😊👍🏻
Hi Trad-Man I hope you see this, I'm struggling with my Moerman® Extension Pole and Moerman® Dr Angle Mini and of course my Moerman® Excelerator 2.0 + F*Liq Complete. My Problem is what angle is best for windows 1st floor and ground Floor, or do you have a video explaining this :) I dont have that fancy neck you use on your pole.
@@kentskjnnemann5629 I am about to start one to one training courses online. Would that be beneficial for you? Email me at info@tradmanacademy.com for more info
Hi Tradman. I’ve just purchased a Moerman accelerator handily just like yours and every time I soap up the glass and try to cut in, the squeegee does not pick up the soap properly and leaves a big patch behind. Can you please let me know what am I doing wrong. Thanks
Mostly down to practice and experience but as a general rule, 25° for above head height. 10° when the close out point is around head height. Minus angles for anything lower than chest height. 40° windows above your head and you are quite close to the glass due to lack of space behind you. Hopefully that makes some sense! TM
Hey, what would be the longest trad pole you would suggest to use? In Canada we have basements, so windows on the second floor are quite high, on my house for ex, I would need an 18', but I wonder if that would be ok, since not so sure if it's possible to have quality work. I'm starting on window cleaning, I do have an 8', aluminum, but I want to get a better one and I'd like to know what would be the biggest you suggest to go for. Thanks.
Traditional work on a pole at height does require some practice. Use the moerman excelerator squeegee and a carbon fibre pole if possible to give you maximum control and precision. The easier option is a wfp system which many folks default to for high level.
@@TradMan Thank you for your response. Yes, I agree with you, water fed poles is the best solution for heights, however, there's always some instances that is not feasible and for that reason, instead of buying one more, then maybe another one, I was wondering what is the longest trad pole that result is still good and then buy a pole with that in mind. Since you have tons of experience, I always like to hear from guys with experience before I do it.
@@TradMan yap, I decided to go with Moerman excelarator only after I saw one of your videos and yes, I'm planing to get a carbon fibre pole. Is it ok to use the wfp? I do have a WFP, 43ft, base of Kevlar and the rest is aboutt 55% of high mod and 45% of ultra high from Reach-it.
Any videos on how to setup a waterfed pole? I've got one but have no idea how to use it yet, and there's no manual! Do I need a garden hose to feed water through?
What about abrasive pads? What's your go to? Also, how do you handle windows that have brick around them.. I find the microfiber cloth sticks to the brick.
I use walnut pads 😉 Yeah that is annoying for sure, I just try and be a bit more precise on those types of windows if cleaning the frames with a pole or just go up on the ladders and get nose to glass to do by hand.
For detail towel, try the squeegee Life towel...the orange one. It's the best towel on the market, imo. It will stick to brick much less than micro fiber. Another alternative is surgical towels, although they're not nearly as good but cheaper. For abrasive pads I use the Xero white pad. Walnut pads suck. They last half as long as the white pad and cost twice as much. The white pads also clean substantially better. If that doesn't work, I go straight to razor. Also, don't forget the magic eraser. Those work like a miracle on adhesives, etc.
Hi Pete great job as always . My problem is turn marks or rubber marks ,I'm finding it difficult to avoid them, have you any way I could stop doing it ? I'm spending a lot of time trying to remove the marks . And second , when you clean your clothes do you use anything like detergent or softener?. Thanks again Pete.. Brian
I also used the yellow..but it’s to soft…the blue one is to hard….the green one you are using is of the same sillicone as the red one i’m using, but it’s cheaper…at least here in the netherlands
Yo Pete...A question...if I may...' Would it be true to say...The Wider The Channel, The More Stable On The Glass? I'm feeling there's a need to strike a balance between pane size/ swept area & stability methinks...? I'm getting there...'just common sense I reckon...but I'll avoid that if I can...I'm a bloke!
The bigger the channel the more pressure required to operate it and also the bigger it is the more pressure is lost at the tips. Personally I don't use anything above 18 inches
@@TradMan so...that almost gives me a sense of direction...can I put it another way then. Would you say 14 or 16 is less wobbly than 12 or worse still, 10 on a pole? Thanks for your response btw...
I'm not quite sure what your meaning but for pole work I use either a 14 or 10 inch excelerator with fliq washer attached. Those sizes give good performance. 10 inch for smaller residential windows, 14 inch for commercial work. In hand I mainly use 16, 12, 6 inch
It takes quite a bit of practice! Stick in. Use good rubber like unger green or ettore master rubber. Apply soap directly to the washer after dunking in a bucket of water then its all practice and technique thereafter 😊
Sorry to comment on an old video but do you find that you earn enough doing this trad? Not looking for a trad v wfp debate but if you’re spending all that time and different tools are you upping the price to make it worthwhile? As wfp would do frames sills and glass in half the time. Obviously for inside you’d need the trad tools. Just seems like a bit of faff for what’s usually underpriced trad work. Or are you charging a premium? Hopefully that all makes sense.
Yes trad costs more in our busines model. We have wfp'd this job and many others. Once dry we often find bits missed that the bristles didn't remove or the odd streak / spotting from air vents / seals harbouring dirt etc. Trad ensures a perfect result everytime and can be quality checked before leaving the premises as opposed to when we use the wfp it is often still wet when finished and can not reveal the "real" result until fully dried. We run our trad services as a premium option and the wfp as a cheaper alternative. Hope that explains it 👍🏻
have a good year can i know which soap you use in this job? (Fairy soap? What can be a worthy alternative to the Fairy?) I know any soap would be fine, but I'd like to know which one you use in this video thank you
I bought the new "fairy platinum gel" for dishwashers. I tried it, dear, but it doesn't foam, it left me so many halos. Next, I used a simple "Svelto" dish soap, in gel, and they came out without streaks, a great job. Do you think this "Fairy platinum gel" product is not suitable? However, I used an unprofessional, inexpensive guide. Give me info please. Thanks bro
Hey TradMan, I noticed that the green rubber you’re using isn’t cut on the corners like the moerman rubber for the 0 detailing benefit. You explained it on the video a bit but can you explain it in more depth please. I thought the rubber needed to be cut at the corner for 0 detailing.
@@TradMan New old guy taking the plunge into window restoration. Your videos have been absolutely pivotal in regards to our approach to cleaning. You make life easier for men like me and the customers that we serve. Enjoy your day so that those around you can enjoy theirs. Bravo.
Sorry its not more of a clear cut answer but really does depend on things like your distance from the window, the height and frame type but if you keep practicing you will automatically know which angle to use as soon as you look at a window 😉
@@TradMan Rad, I'll let you know when I visit Scotland, would love to do a video with you someday, I've been doing trad for 2 years and I'm about to start a channel teaching a new technique I've developed, haven't seen anyone clean the way I do so I figure I may as well share. I'm finishing some videos for the company I work for than I'll be unto vlogging. Been watching your channel for about a month, you got some mad rad trad skills yo, I thought skylights down here were tricky... we've got a few like yours but they're few a far between. Glad to see your still making videos in 2021, keep it up bro!
Had this van and signage for about 2 years roughly. Before that was a transit van which did say McKay but the window cleaning bit was too small so this van I got them to make window cleaning big and clear so people from far away see it no problem and the phone number 😀
First I tally up the windows and charge per window. If anything is awkward to get to or to clean I'll add a bit on. Everything that is above ground level is priced higher to. Pricing is something that is tricky as it depends on your location, the competition in your area, how far away the job is etc. But I would have a pricing structure, so have a price for one standard ground level window, then anything more than that adjust accordingly so if the windows twice the size of a standard window then double your standard window charge. If its up high then again add more on until your happy with the price.
in my opinion this job does not require a pole or ladder. they dont seem that tall. don't underestimate how high one can reach with a mop and 18" squeegee
Yeah for me I can almost reach the top pane to mop it but can't reach the frame to wipe it and I'm about 5 ft 11. Just easier to pole rather than stretch 😁 Thanks kindly for your thoughts. Appreciated 👍🏻
Have had our windows cleaned with a water fed system not been happy and been round and wiped all the windows again. Don’t like water marks. Prefer the traditional window cleaning method.
I wash my whole year including -25 ° C (-13 ° F) frost. Your liquidator technique doesn't work so much soap on the glass. Earlier, I worked with a liquidator for a year and realized that it was not suitable for Russia. Now mine is faster and better than before with the liquidator.
Yes, love the chit chat with no music! Instead of doing chores I’m watching window washing videos. I have no idea why.

Hey, really enjoying your videos! I've been cleaning windows for nearly a year doing single pull s all the time 🙈 I'm determined to get my skills up for this summer to try and be more efficient. Can you tell me, do you use razor glide all of the time now in your bucket?
Hey 👋🏻
I don't use it all the time no. The main thing is putting washing up liquid directly on to the washer. That's the important thing.
If you ever need one to one training, check out my website tradmanacademy.com 👍🏻
Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
😊👍🏻
Hi, thanks for the video.. Think i found the reason, why i've got turn marchs All the time. 👍
What is your doing if you have to do the inside, on a Sunny Day?
Greatings from denmark. ☀️
😉👍🏻
On insides I'll put a towl down and do the same method just make sure the applicator is not completely saturated in water or you'll have a very wet towel quickly lol. You get a feel for how much to use with practice. Same process though, dunk applicator in water, squeeze out a little water, add soap to applicator and go 😊
If its quite warm on insides do one window at a time 😉
If you can, use a moerman excelerator squeegee with unger green rubber to get complete 100% job done with no solution left
Such a good video. So we’ll explained. Exactly what I was looking for. We have a house with so much glass and of height that I needed to know how to clean my windows properly and the best tools to use. Well explained. What company did you buy all the tools from please inc all the accessories?
I'm happy the video was useful!!
I get most of my equipment from window cleaning warehouse online

Have you cut down any liquidator 3.0 channels to 150mm yet would it be worth doing
Nice instructional video again Pete 👍🏻 you going to the expo?
Yeah I'll be there 😊👍🏻
Hey Pete great to meet you at the show on Saturday outside ,me and my trad wife 🙂 hope you had a good time with Dave . Can I ask where you got the soap bottle from , cheers John.
Hey 👋🏻
Was great to meet you to 😊🤜🏻🤛🏻
Yeah I had a great time thanks 😊
The soap bottle was a moerman soap. The squeeze deluxe. Once I finished it I kept the bottle and changed the top cap to the fairy liquid cap.
👍🏻
@@TradMan thanks Pete really enjoyed this video, cheers mate take care.
Thanks kindly! Take care 😉
Love these videos. Really help a lot. Do you know if a ladder m8rix would fit a Ramsay A frame ladder or would the legs be to wide? Thanks a lot mate.
I've never tried a ladder m8rix buddy so not sure on that but possibly they would give the size of the ladder m8rix on the website and could compare that with the base of the ladder? 😊👍🏻
A lot of people do dawn dish soap in some water.. do you think thats a solid solution ?
Hi Trad-Man
I hope you see this, I'm struggling with my Moerman® Extension Pole and Moerman® Dr Angle Mini and of course my Moerman® Excelerator 2.0 + F*Liq Complete.
My Problem is what angle is best for windows 1st floor and ground Floor, or do you have a video explaining this :) I dont have that fancy neck you use on your pole.
or is it better just to use Moerman® Universal Locking Cone and angle the Excelerator?
@@kentskjnnemann5629 I am about to start one to one training courses online. Would that be beneficial for you? Email me at info@tradmanacademy.com for more info
Very educational!! Thanks!!
Very welcome!
Hi Tradman. I’ve just purchased a Moerman accelerator handily just like yours and every time I soap up the glass and try to cut in, the squeegee does not pick up the soap properly and leaves a big patch behind. Can you please let me know what am I doing wrong. Thanks
Watch this squeegee setup vid - ua-cam.com/video/TyyWpFcfi5E/v-deo.html
😎👍🏻
Excellent video Pete, question where are you getting the unger power liquid from at the moment as WCW seems to be out of stock
I haven't used it for a while. Just regular fairy liquid on to the applicator 😉
Hola. Aque ángulo pones el excelerator en el poste? Gracias
With the adjustable angle on the Moerman handle and Fliq Pad, how do you figure out what is the correct angle? Love the videos.
Mostly down to practice and experience but as a general rule, 25° for above head height. 10° when the close out point is around head height. Minus angles for anything lower than chest height. 40° windows above your head and you are quite close to the glass due to lack of space behind you. Hopefully that makes some sense!
TM
@@TradMan thank you. Nobody really explains the squeegee head angles.
Happy to help
Where did you get that bottle for your soap? Love the video by the way
It was a sample bottle I got years ago.
Thanks kindly
Great video...thanks!
@InMission you can trad up to 20-25ft with good results but requires time and practice 😊
Check out squeaky clean dave on UA-cam 😉
Thanks man!
No problem, Dave is the wfp legend 😉
I always start at the bottom left up to right and all the way down to close out like a square, have you ever tried this method ?
Yeah with wagtails years ago 😁
Great video! Newbee to window cleaning. How often are you changing out your squeegee rubber? Thanks!
One side per week 😊
@@TradMan thanks!
What about abrasive pads? What's your go to?
Also, how do you handle windows that have brick around them.. I find the microfiber cloth sticks to the brick.
I use walnut pads 😉
Yeah that is annoying for sure, I just try and be a bit more precise on those types of windows if cleaning the frames with a pole or just go up on the ladders and get nose to glass to do by hand.
Hi ...I m morrocan i can ask you ?
Hi Pete great job as always . My problem is turn marks or rubber marks ,I'm finding it difficult to avoid them, have you any way I could stop doing it ? I'm spending a lot of time trying to remove the marks . And second , when you clean your clothes do you use anything like detergent or softener?. Thanks again Pete..
Brian
Are you using dish soap directly on the applicator?
I wash my cloths on a hot wash no detergents 😊
@@TradMan
Hello
you don't use special glass soap?
just dish soap?
Because I too leave squeegee lines.
Yeah just dish soap applied to the applicator 😉
@@TradMan why directly on instead of in the bucket ?
I also used the yellow..but it’s to soft…the blue one is to hard….the green one you are using is of the same sillicone as the red one i’m using, but it’s cheaper…at least here in the netherlands
Yo Pete...A question...if I may...'
Would it be true to say...The Wider The Channel, The More Stable On The Glass?
I think it's just me... I'm struggling with a pole.
It takes quite a bit of practice! Stick in. Use good rubber like unger green or ettore master rubber. Apply soap directly to the washer after dunking in a bucket of water then its all practice and technique thereafter 😊
Great video
Have yo cut down any liquidator channels to 150mm yet would it be worth doing
Yeah I have a video called how to makeva six inch squeegee. Same principle to make any size.
Hope that explains it 👍🏻
Do u recommend a newcomer to window cleaning to use a swivel head squeegee?
Certainly, why not 😊 learn it from the beginning, just takes practice
Appreciate it, wasn't too sure since my company only uses traditional old style pole with no swivel on them. @@TradMan
The company I used to work for was and is still the same
May I ask how much you charge per panel that size you’re cleaning I’m at USA

I bought the new "fairy platinum gel" for dishwashers.
I tried it, dear, but it doesn't foam, it left me so many halos.
Next, I used a simple "Svelto" dish soap, in gel, and they came out without streaks, a great job.
Do you think this "Fairy platinum gel" product is not suitable?
However, I used an unprofessional, inexpensive guide.
Give me info please.
Thanks bro
All you need is dish washing liquid like fairy liquid or aldi magnum etc 😊
Hey TradMan, I noticed that the green rubber you’re using isn’t cut on the corners like the moerman rubber for the 0 detailing benefit. You explained it on the video a bit but can you explain it in more depth please. I thought the rubber needed to be cut at the corner for 0 detailing.
I could do a little video on it 😊

Does this work for mirrors?
Yes 😁
under what angel is the windowwiper? 30°?
Depends on the situation. Best way to learn is experiment with the angles until you get the edge of the rubber blade in contact with the glass.
@@TradMan thanks brother keep up the good work
Sorry its not more of a clear cut answer but really does depend on things like your distance from the window, the height and frame type but if you keep practicing you will automatically know which angle to use as soon as you look at a window 😉
Watching this from Colorado, super late here. Scotland pretty, which region is this in? I want to visit so bad!
Hi 😊
This Huntly, which is in the Aberdeenshire area. North East Scotland, next to grampian mountains

Did you change the sign writing on the van or is it a different van? I thought you had company name on van and now it just says window cleaning?
Had this van and signage for about 2 years roughly. Before that was a transit van which did say McKay but the window cleaning bit was too small so this van I got them to make window cleaning big and clear so people from far away see it no problem and the phone number 😀
@@TradMan Shows how observant I am :-)

How do you do your pricing?

what angle do you typically leave the squeegee in?
It is normally in 10° or 25° but I use all the angles in various situations
@@TradMan Thank you for answering! I'm a new window cleaner so all your tutorials are a life saver!
Excellent! 😊🤜🏻🤛🏻
How much do you charge for one of those window?
Usually for maintenance clean it's £2 external only.
First clean I charge double the maintenance clean price
Internal is 50% more than external price
Thank you
😊👍🏻
Where are 2.0 or 3.0 clips better? thanks
Here is a video I did of the 3.0 clips
📺 ua-cam.com/video/Pw9CEnA7R4o/v-deo.html
How do u know how much to charge?
First I tally up the windows and charge per window. If anything is awkward to get to or to clean I'll add a bit on.
Everything that is above ground level is priced higher to.
Pricing is something that is tricky as it depends on your location, the competition in your area, how far away the job is etc.
But I would have a pricing structure, so have a price for one standard ground level window, then anything more than that adjust accordingly so if the windows twice the size of a standard window then double your standard window charge. If its up high then again add more on until your happy with the price.
So that's how you do the inside. Lay a towel down. You don't think of having lid for transporting...
Breeeelant
How do you prevent the sqeegee from bleeding?
I give the squeegee a flick every so often, a bit like a samurai does after he's used his blade but I don't make it look so cool 🤣🤣🤣
This video couldn't have come at a better time
Brilliant video this by the way
Fantastic!
Do you not need to cut the rubbers on the edges at the angle of the moreman/
Nope, you can if you want to though, doesn't effect the tool if you don't 😉
Spider webs can be a nightmare!😙
Yeah very true
Update, you can get a 6 inch Liquidator now!
Yup 👍🏻
in my opinion this job does not require a pole or ladder. they dont seem that tall. don't underestimate how high one can reach with a mop and 18" squeegee
there are a lot of great tips in this video. thanks for taking the time to share
Yeah for me I can almost reach the top pane to mop it but can't reach the frame to wipe it and I'm about 5 ft 11. Just easier to pole rather than stretch 😁
Thanks kindly for your thoughts.
Whatever works for you 👍🏻
