Can you all tell me what lav mic Mitch is using? Sounds excellent. Thanks!
nope... Softube did this a few years ago....
I’ve bet everybody that’s trashing ssl hasn’t even tried one. I own one and I can attest it’s high quality in its pre amps, the monitor section alone, and using it as a summing box.
I'm seriously considering one....is it what you wanted it to be?
It's unbelievable. Definitely on my wishlist.
Wow 😍 I can’t believe it 😱 SSL mixer for only $1,500? This is a must in my wishlist. Congratulations home studios 👏🏼
@Derek Frampton There getting smaller and smaller. That think looks messy
Derek Frampton
Look up the price for the ssl bus compressor.
You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about if you say this is a rip-off.
2 channel strips, a bus compressor, a monitor controller, and a summing mixer for $1,500???
This is a stupid deal
I wonder if you could use this for mixing? Or mastering?
@@TheDougSpot The 500 series compressor is what? $2500
@@TheDougSpot It doesn't matter how good it sounds if it can't go In-N-Out of your DAW. No interface.
SSL made a Tascam
The phrase “based on” usually concerns me.. is this an SSL emulation of an SSL??
This IS SSL
Paul Quiroz I could be totally wrong on this, but my first thought is that this item gives you 2 preamps and the eq/compression found on SSL large format consoles.. every video I’ve seen doesn’t mention any of those parts being integrated.
This is reminding me of Neumann’s TLM series of mics. SSL making an affordable mixer, GREAT, but at first glance it looked like we’re getting “the real deal” at $1500. The SSL mix bus alone is around the $2500 mark I believe, so somehow they cut corners leading me to joke that this seems like a Warm Audio piece (of which I have!)
It looks to me that SSL is trying to catch a bit of the home studio market. They designed a small-scale board, went to a contract manufacturer in China to have it built and the SiX was the result. But $1,500 for a Chinese-made, 6-channel board is pretty stiff price of entry just to have the SSL brand.
Probably one of those cheap Chinese white label mixer
@@Individual_two I was just about to make the exact same comment.
looks like a great product, but i wish that ssl could make a 24 channel MIDI console that could be a beast daw controller and to be able to control any ssl native plugins on any daw....it could be freaking awesome!!
Doesn’t the ssl nucleus do that ?
@@wadewilliams1892 yup!!
yes it does...I would like to see a midi controller console to be like ssl mixer to be able to load any ssl plugin with lots of controlls, it could be done for a price no more than 2000 dollars....it could be a best seller midi controller console..amazing
@@foxproduction4554 the console 1 would be good for what your trying to do
@@foxproduction4554
Now that would be an effective use of SSL's resources.
As much as I have tried, I cant really find a use for this in my project studio. In my opinion, SSL could make a mint if they released something like this in a slightly larger form factor, like maybe 8 channels. Add in Dante or thunderbolt 3 as well as motorized faders and some sort of DAW control and they wouldn't be able to take my money fast enough.
For the price, I expected this to have automation/motorized faders...
The SSL version of a XENYX
+10 times the price :D I would like to try it out, still
@@simcHyt Go for it : )
unfortunately Xenyx mixers very quickly have crackly pots & faders (I have bought one of theirs 3 times now, they simply can't be repaired) and the power supplies don't last long. This has a better monitor section, better routing and it's much higher quality
Love your comments. I take a look into this console in the near future since I myself are barely starting a small recording studio with a partner.....................
Please, do let us know your impressions, will you?
Lowest price SSL console, most expensive 4 channel mixer ever.
6 channel, if you actually add up the individual cost of each component like eq, comp etc it's good value. I got one ordered.
@@KreapOfficial I'm seriously considering it...let me know how it goes?
@@chrisbeddows7099 it's great, i've been loving it
What would a 500 series set up cost to build the same system? Box + 2 pre amp+ 2 eq+ G compressor? This is why it is appealing(to me).
no digital out ....or they A/D conversion? I could route it to my $60 Beringer interface... otherwise sounds like a well designed unit , like a Mackie
not at this price. Already lowered the price by making it in China. The UK made X Desk is over $3K.
Mitch Gallagher has to be the most rock and roll name
I thought I would see some in-depth routing of connection cables from the mixer to the interface. Nothing shown and nothing mentioned.
does it come with your finger nails ?
TWENTY ELBRIDGE 🤣🤣
If you wanna play guitar like him, it would be nice
If you have any questions whatsoever, please don't hesitate to contact your Sweetwater Sales Engineer! 😂
I have the Fusion Ordered, Hopefully If I make a good video, maybe SSL will hit me up and support me with this :X
Btw. I cleaned the wax out of half of my ears so far, and now I hear half High frequency on one side, and the other half sounds good.
The editor of the audio for this video may have to clean his ears as well!
I know I’m late… but I just picked mine up 😊
2:44 So you're saying it can record the talkback mic? would that route to a channel/DAW using the foldback?
yes
OK...so how would I connect a API 512c to the SSL Six in a way that that any signal that goes thru that channel is printed with the API sound? I'm thinking connecting like and insert effect but not sure if a pre works that way or could that be done thru Aux sends and returns?
Question for the pros here. If somebody is searching a professionnal sounding small mixer. That will accept a minimal outboard (Redd.47 and Aurora audio pres). What are the ones that one could get ?
Hubieran hecho la ssl x desk, con el G buss compressor a este precio y sería la bomba.
So this can be used for 12 channel summing 🤔
as far as I can understand, yes, 12 mono channels or you can can sum 3 mono channels and 4 stereo buses. Unless I got it wrong.
email me when SSL make a 16ch Mixer .
SSL XL desk, or AWS 16
Great!! I just got it! :)
hey mitch, the question is that you always need an audio interface to connect to ssl six, how big is it possible to connect Six to an audio interface like the twin apollo or arturia audiofuse? having to invest in an audio interface rack to connect to ssl six will take away the portability that this has .. the question would be if it is possible to connect directly to an AD / DA type the RME ADI-2 Pro FS, since ssl has everything
Sure, the line-level outputs of the Six can be connected to any stand-alone converter or audio interface that can accept line level (most do).
Hi, is this mixer suitable for vintage sounds? thanks and congratulations for the channel
SSL needs to hire me now!
Can it be used as a control surface as well? That tascam model 12 is about to get my money 😎
Thank you kindly
No Gimmicks, liking!
The routing is confusing me a little? Can you guys explain the routing for tracking/mixdown SEPERATELY???
leave it your not gonna but it anyway , stop wasting peoples time
My SSL SIX is for sale:-)
Nice Carpet!
what are the attack and release times on the master buss compressor?
attack 30ms, release 0.1ms and ratio 4:1
Lucas Michalski i read over the manual i must've missed that...
@@gunsandsynths I contacted SSL regarding that.
@@LucasMichalski Yikes..attack at 30 is standard if you have a well compressed vocal. Usually auto release and 4:1 ratio for bus compression. 0.1 release is, I don't know man.....
@@symphonystudioaz1665 that's the answer I got from SSL themselves. My main concern is ratio though as I mostly use 2:1 on the mix bus when mixing into compressor (Waves SSL G Bus)
hi , im trying to record just the vocal in mono if I go in track one then come out the main buss out puts left and right in to my 1=2 audio interface ,iam recording the vocal to a stereo track in my daw ,, do I fix this in my daw ,thanks
Are you using a stereo track in your daw a d getting a mono signal?
Your coming out of the stereo bus so the recording will be stereo....
Does the compressor have Sidechain?
Hello! The built in compressor does not have a sidechain capability.
Thanks for the interest!

Does it have a USB interface for recording?
It seems like a pretty versatile mixer. But using this for recording, it seems you would use it like having 2 external preamps. You would still need a separate audio interface to get it into your computer.
@@MikeSylvestre that is a ridiculous omission, IMO. They had the perfect opportunity to keep the SSL sound intact. Instead, someone will take the outputs of this console and send them into the DAW with a cheap interface, defeating the purpose.
@@mjklein To be honest, I'm not entirely sure why they didn't just put a USB out. Maybe they didn't want to deal with having to create drivers, and deal with latency issues and all that stuff...
But most mid-tier interfaces have at least 2 line level inputs that could be used to send a signal without being colored by any preamps.
@@mjklein Most mid-tier, and even low-tier interfaces have a couple of line level inputs on them, so the SSL wouldn't be colored by the preamps...But it would have been nice to just have the USB port built into the SiX.
This is basically two external SSL preamps that could also be used as a mixer board. Considering a single SSL 500 preamp would run you $700, there's quite a bit of value in the SiX
@@mjklein They claimed that there's no room for anything else in there.
No fx sends? Or did i mis something
Mitch, you're always great on camera. Thanks for the very informative review. Unfortunately, because it lacks an integrated connection to the computer, it rather defeats the purpose of having such a sonically perfect console. Why SSL chose not to include their own converters and interface is a mystery. It's like they froze the design at 95 percent.
Yeah, I basically tought the same thing. Why have 2 ssl preamps, a bus compressor and pay 1500$ for it and then buy another audio interface/converter just to record it. Doesn't really make sense to me.
@@Darkshine1 Totally agree! I think you're better off with what you got now!
Antonio Amato who has to buy another audio interface ? I’m sure unless your really just starting you have at least one audio interface . Plus why would you want subpar conversion ?
Not being tied in with an interface section as well is actually a good thing. The amount of times that an interface becomes obsolete or its software control is no longer compatible with your computer operating system is frustrating. So with this product you aren't concerned with obsolescence. So in the future you just need to upgrade your interface and not the whole combined unit. :)
Sometimes using a brand name can really justify a product with any condition. Yes it is produced by SSL and they are great, but just because of the brand it doesn't mean that it is the best in this range. Besides many compromises such as lack of control in different sections, many of the features are "based on" actual SSL products. Probably a digital microcontroller to simulate the sound of the original device.
Keep in mind that it is not 40 years ago and nowadays electronic systems are way more capable. Personally, I would rather get a Softube Console 1 because beside having many choices among different consoles (including SSL) it gives me way more features and control over the mix.
You're wrong. These are two pre amps and a real bus compressor from ssl. It sounds like an SSL!!! You can buy this and it'll be usefull in twenty years.
@@JEAG have you personally tried it? If so, would you be so kind to provide me with a demo recorded on this unit?
@@antoniozuozo4121I play with lots of people and I tested it while on a session with a DJ who had it. We were 3 people runing through that thing and it sounded pretty much glorious.
The master compressor thing is MONEY. And the preamps are really really good.
Im not into hip hop and rap at all, but this would be killer for a producer of those genres. The ins and outs are really well thought out and the sound it better that pretty much any board I've dealt with in that price range.
@@JEAG thanks for your reply. So it does hit the spot in a live environment. What I'm wondering though is how would this unit perform in a recording session as compared with the blazoned large-scale SSL console, specifically in terms of mixing buss, field depth, dynamic spectrum. In short: is this a real SSL console miniaturized in just 2 channels?
You don't even understand what your commenting on and you sound like a buffoon. A softube console 1? That's not even in the same class as this. This is an analog mixer.
An 8 would have been way better. Yes the price point is good but I don't see my money on this.

Look at that hand! Wakanda forever
nope... go home...
Not for no 1500 I buy a soundcraft or midas m32r for that money connected to a 500 series
for live, how would i add reverb and delay to my voices? no FX on this
gonna have to bring external effects lol
can i mix vocals on this?
Hi, Shane! Thanks for your interest. I'm not certain what exact workflow you have in mind, but the short answer is yes. The SSL SiX is a great choice for recording and mixing vocals - and the onboard preamps, compression, and EQ would help you get a polished vocal sound on the front end, too. Feel free to contact me directly and I will be happy to go into further detail!

Not anywhere near as messy as a full sized console. try routing just a 24 channel console for recording, mixing, and summing. Using short faders and long faders, as well as the busses, headphone mixes, effects returns, the SSL SiX ins't nearly as complicated as that.
@@legomyfego Sure...but you look way cooler with a huge desk.

I have... reservations about this product 🤔🤨 lol
The G Channel compression is worth the price alone, the rest is just bonus!

how would you even mix a whole session on this? 😭 only 4 faders? it seems to me the only thing you could use this for is record a vocal and a guitar. could have made this analog and digital, and added channel banks with motorized faders so you could do whole mixes on it.. it seems to me this thing is really catered to project bedroom beginners.. but still theres not a whole lot you can with thiss.. 🤷♂️

Lemme guess the price...6 Billion dollars 💵
Overprice
Go to Softube... this is big and stupid....
1,5k usd for that? No, thank you. No compressor controls(ratio/tresh), no fine eq controls (seriously? Only hi/low knobs and bell/shelv switches doesn't seem like a big deal at least for me), 6 ch, 4 of them = no mic/xlr input. I know the classic ssl4k is expensive and blablabla but by reading some comments here I understand that there are 'professionals' who will buy this by the SSL brand and not for usability. For all the others (that buy this for usability) I feel for your wallets but good luck xD
I'm convinced the only ones buying this don't have to worry about making rent each month.
There is just no purpose for something this small at such a high price point.
Compare what you could get for the same price from Presonus, or Midas, or literally anyone that makes a digital mixer right now.
