About the Movie :-
" Chandrakantham " is the first film written and directed by Sreekumaran Thampi. Sreekumaran Thampi entered Malayalam Cinema field as A lyricist in the film Kattumallika.when he was 26. He started his own film production company after seven years. Chandrakantham was produced by Sreekumaran Thampi and his friend Baby. The story tells the intimate affection between two brothers. Prem Nazir appeared in double role. Both brothers are poets. The elder one is very popular. But the younger brother does not sell his poetry. The imagination of the younger brother was picturised in Colour eventhough the film was in black and white.
Since both black and white and colour negatives were used for the film, every print has to be edited separately to insert colour bits in black and white print. M.S.Mani the greatest film editor in south India did this job beautifully. Vipindas was the cinematographer.
Black and white film was processed in A.V.M.Laboratory and Colour film in newly started Film centre lab, Chennai. After a few years ,Film centre closed their branch in Chennai and the colour negative of Chandrakantham was lost in transit.
Now the film does not contain those wonderful colour shots.
M.S.Viswanthan scored music. All the songs were outstanding.
Chandrakantham had won two State Awards

എന്റെ അമ്മക്ക് 64 വയസ്സ് ഉണ്ട് കൊളസ്ട്രോളും, ഷുഗറും ഒക്കെ ഉണ്ട്. ഒരുപാട് നാളായിട്ട് വീട്ടിൽ തന്നെ ആണ്. അപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ ഓർത്തു അമ്മേം കൊണ്ട് ഒന്ന് കറങ്ങാൻ പോയാലോ എന്ന്. അങ്ങനെ ഇന്ന് എന്റെ അമ്മേം കൊണ്ട് ഞാൻ ആദ്യമായി കടൽ കാണാൻ പോയപ്പോൾ ഈ പാട്ടാരുന്നു എന്റെ വന്നത് പിന്നെ ഇതും പാടികൊണ്ടാണ് മൊത്തോം വണ്ടി ഓടിച്ചത്. ഞാൻ നേരത്തെ ഒരുപാട് പ്രാവിശ്യം പോയിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കിലും അമ്മ ഇതുവരെ ഈ സ്ഥലം കണ്ടിട്ടില്ല.ഒരുപാട് നാളത്തെ ആഗ്രഹം ഇന്ന് സാധിച്ചു 🙏 Thank you God❤

Brilliantly composed by MSV based on Raagam Yaman Kalyan. Yaman Kalyan unfolds all its splendour in this Glorious Composition. Easily the Best one among so many songs I have so far heard in this Raagaa across so many genres. Brilliantly sung with mystic sangathis by Janaki. I don't know Malayalam, hence couldn't comment about the Lyrics. But, I have read that Sri Sreekumaran Thambi who has written the lyrics for all the songs in this movie Chandrakantham is a great writer.
This is among the best poetry written by Sreekumaran Thampi. He was not a great poet like his contemporaries Vayalar, P. Bhaskaran or ONV but this is an excellent work by him.

You are absolutely correct ! I have heard that he did not agree to record the way it was tuned for that version by MSV ! Thampi Sir had to persuade him ! I heard it in one of his TV programmes !!
Of course this is made for s janaki singing scale , but yeusdas version also has it’s own beauty. saying that dosent even come close is too far
