Breaking Bad follows protagonist Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a chemistry teacher who lives in New Mexico with his wife (Anna Gunn) and teenage son (RJ Mitte) who has cerebral palsy. White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given a prognosis of two years left to live. With a new sense of fearlessness based on his medical prognosis, and a desire to secure his family's financial security, White chooses to enter a dangerous world of drugs and crime and ascends to power in the world. The series explores how a fatal diagnosis such as White's releases a typical man from the daily concerns and constraints of normal society and follows his transformation from mild family man to a kingpin of the drug trade.

If they'd sent anyone else besides Hank to check out Walt's inventory he definitely would've been seen as suspicious.
Hank probably reassured his colleagues about Walt by telling them to trust him and that he would help them in the investigation. It sounds bad but having a brother-in-law in the DEA is probably what allowed Walt to stay out of range for so long
Moral of the story, only cook crystal if your bro in law is a DEA agent
@@IcaroThEBlood Yup, like when Walt and Jesse are in the RV when Hank is waiting for the search warrant, and Walt had to have a fake hospital call him.
Nice pfp
What caused them to check the school in the first place lol?
Man, Walt must be great to play poker against with a poker face like that, can read the fear from a mile away.
Well at least Walt in the earlier seasons but walt at the end was heartless, cold, fearless, dangerous, highly intelligent and he had nothing to lose

That's the spirit Walt!
Hank: "Our informant's likely dead, probably chopped up into pieces"
Walt: "Melted actually"
Hank: "What?"
Walt: "What?"
lol.
This is the moment Walt realised if he didn't kill krazy 8 he would've snitched on him
Only in best scenario. In worst scenario Krazy 8 would kill him.
Nah in better call Saul it’s explained that crazy 8 ain’t actually a snitch
@@ethansomer7362technically he is a snitch, he just didn't snitch on the cartel. A nobody like Walt is golden to keep the DEA satisfied.

Vince did such a good job not only portraying what kind of person Walt is/was but also how other people (especially Hank) treat him. Like all the fingers pointing at Walt and Hank wouldn't even consider him as a suspect for a second. Not only is he just not that kind of person, he is totally and completely incapable of pulling off these sort of crimes...except he isn't.
Right. Walt even says so later on, that he’s tired of living his life in fear and uncertainty. He craved to one day become a living breathing iron fist. It fell into perfect place since his front for hiding was already there for him, quite literally in plain sight, and Hank especially saw him as a man who’s a unassuming friendly high school teacher, never would he have reason to believe a man like Walt would have the will to even slightly step foot into something as dangerous as the drug/cartel world. To Hank, men like Tuco and the Salamancas were the only ones willing to live that lifestyle. Nasty psychotic vicious narcissists. No way would Walt be that type of man. No way would Walt have reason to be involved with even just a small scale criminal act, let alone successfully run an illegal drug organization. Walt was an extremely intelligent man, not just in science, but he just didn’t fully grasp and utilize it to his advantage until that lung cancer diagnosis.
Bravo Vince
Yea
Hank: “You gotta keep a better watch over your turf.” Walt apparently misinterpreted that just a tad
Stay out of my territory
Hank could've caught walt so much earlier by not underestimating him.
Not just underestimations, family connections.
2:16 He even said so himself
also, walt giving the janitor away so casually was enough. trust me, not everyone can simply just pin their crimes on an innocent person and live with it, but walt does and doesn't seem to give much thought after it. i feel like hank thought that if he was innocent and walt set him up, he would have come clean sooner or later, but he didn't
Everybody saying this but police officers don't randomly assume their family members to be crime kingpins
@shiwoshiwoismyactualname I know, but Walt was so suspicious.
"My doctor...is very solicitous."
Leave it to early Walt to lie when no one asked him to.
Hank probably would have been curious about the call.
1:20 man, this information leads to Better Call Saul S05E03 where Domingo (Krazy8) agrees on being a ''CI'' for Hank and Steve. At the same time Saul gets the recognition on the streets for getting Krazy8 free and Lalo keeps trying to affect Gus.

If Hank would have stared at walt a little while longer the series would have ended right then and there with that abvious guilty face😂
If Hank had even the smallest amount of respect for Walter , he would have caught him instantly
I'm gobsmacked in this series the number of times Hank gets so close, and he doesn't realise. 🤦♂️
If this happened in real life the security camera footage of Walt taking the mask would've been pulled out so fast lmao
depends on how long they keep the footage
Assuming a small storeroom next to a science lab even has security cameras in the first place - honestly I'd be surprised. I don't know how different it is in the US, but I work at a high school in Australia and the only place we even have security cameras at all is in the library, and that's only because it was built fairly recently. I can't think of a single other place in the school where we even have cameras.
Hank was so good at his job. Yet so bad as well. How did he ignore all of the red flags 😂
He was blind when it came to family
He would’ve caught Walt straight away if he didn’t know him. Denial is a powerful thing.
I honestly felt bad for Hank throughout this show. He genuinely cared about Walter and was concerned about his diagnosis. He loved Walter's family and tried to do his job the best he could, an endeavor in which he was exceptionally skilled at doing. The problem for him was, he was TOO good at it, and in the end it wound up being his downfall.
I don't think he was good at his job, otherwise he would have found out about Heisenberg way earlier, Walt didn't even do a good job at hiding it.
Hank was an a$$hole whose a$$holery blinded him from what was right in front of him the whole time.
Hank would have suspected Walter right away if Walter dressed himself like Lalo Salamanca, giving off the cartel vibe.
Luckily for Walt and unfortunately for Hank, Walter’s mild-manner made him hide in a plain sight so well, just like Gus Fring.
And dexter morgan
Yeah, very obvious and logic, Hank definitely did not suspect Walter because he was part of his family, he just didn't suspect him because of his clothes
@@vvelv This too, although it's far from being incompatible with what I said.
Even the official UA-cam of Breaking Bad is embracing the meme of "Hank finds out".
This might've been the most obvious evidence in the show before Gale's book.
No damage in the school, someone just casually unlocked the door and took things out. Very highly likely it was one of the people with a key, should've kept looking into that aspect.
They thought they found him! The janitor got fired and deported.

Walt: I better call Saul!!!!
Hank was so irrationally convinced that Walt couldn't be Heisenberg, while having solid facts straight up pointing that he is Heisenberg 🤪
At this point, no there wasn't any obvious proof. Sure, stuff went missing in HIS class, but then again as he says "those kids can do anything". He assumes Walter (or anyone of the faculty for that matter) left the door open for a bit, teenagers snuck in, got what they wanted and left.
It's not until far later that Hank should've started to be more suspicious.

its so obvious walt is hiding something in this scene but to hank I imagine walt acts like this around him so much he wouldn't even notice a difference, and likely the reason hank went here alone was "hey I know someone who works there, no need to waste anybodies time I'll just walk over and talk to him", remember what jesse says near the end "mr white is smarter than you and he's luckier than you!"

The moment Walt become Walt
If I were Walt, I would have said: "Yeah, that's an old respirator. They go through wear and tear over the years and we toss them. Why do you ask?"
I feel like this would have been a better flashback than the one they went with
I’m not convinced that Hank didn’t suspect that Walt was “Heisenberg” the whole time, from this very scene on I believe that Hank deep down knew that Walt was Heisenberg, but just didn’t want to believe it because he believes Walt isn’t capable of being a hardened criminal.
Walter: 'Actually, Hank, that's for mixing and titration. You wouldn't cook in that.'
Imagine free stuff
Maybe things have changed but I took chemistry in high school and college and never once did we break out full-face respirators.

This is the moment where Walt should’ve been caught
me shouting at hank from my screen: 2:16
3:45 Walt, you've been seeming sus lately
This was the first example of the karmic consequences at the core of BB’s theme. Walt broke the law, and inadvertently caused the janitor, who was shown to be supportive of Walt after he vomited from his cancer, to get fired from his job and arrested for marijuana charges. Even if bad deeds don’t directly hurt people, there is always a ripple effect of negative consequences. Through his transformation to Heisenberg, the consequences of Walt’s actions cause far more harm than this.
I think it was Anna Gunn that said Breaking Bad is ultimately about a drug addiction and how it hurts people, even if it isn't consumed.
Hank almost prevented hundreds of deaths but he was too preoccupied with that onion 🧅
Makes me cry. Not really.
You don’t get tv characters like Hank anymore!
It’s funny how Hank was the last person in Walt’s family to really find out he was Heisenberg. He left a number of hints that even Skyler caught on without much help. I’m sure Marie and Jr. would’ve connected the dots long before Hank if they had given just 1% more care for his case. Hank was 100% focused on this and he just couldn’t accept that Walt was capable of doing anything bad.
How could Hank be so oblivious?
Let's be honest, this is the where Walt SHOULD have been caught. Unlucky, Hank.. Unlucky.
he knew the whole time off instinct and the book verified his assumptions

Hank has cognitive dissonance. The clues were right in front of his face from the start but it hurts too much to his unconscious to realize the truth
The really sad part... While Hank is the Alpha in their relationship, he clearly respects his brother-in-law.
LoL, as if a HS chemistry lab would have a Chemical Respirator, let alone that the DEA could just show up and "check" the inventory. Hilarious.
Or keeping a list LOL

If Hank sent Steve Gomez, Walt wouldn't stand a chance with his awkward posture and made up story
This is hank's problem he us goofy 90% of the time, except with the bad guys. That is not what a good detective does.
"Hank" over acting a bit imo, but this was first season so...

I hated this episode so much, the most plot armor walt ever had was when hank was getting stupid with that mask
It’s Not really plot armor. We learn Walt is a terrible liar and Hank is too trusting of his brother in law. Imagine the scene from hanks perspective he at most probably just thought Walter was overly nervous and confused about the whole scenario. Assumed he thought Hank was having a dig at him
People (especially Hank) treating early Walt like a delicate flower is a pretty important part of the show. It's not plot armor, it's plot.
