  • If Hank had pieced it together here, Breaking Bad would have never existed.
    Season 1 Episode 6 - Crazy Handful of Nothin': The side-effects of chemotherapy begin to plague Walt, who is also cooking meth again, and Jesse's friend, Skinny Pete, introduces him to a distributor named Tuco, but things go awry and Jesse ends up hospitalised.

    Breaking Bad follows protagonist Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a chemistry teacher who lives in New Mexico with his wife (Anna Gunn) and teenage son (RJ Mitte) who has cerebral palsy. White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given a prognosis of two years left to live. With a new sense of fearlessness based on his medical prognosis, and a desire to secure his family's financial security, White chooses to enter a dangerous world of drugs and crime and ascends to power in the world. The series explores how a fatal diagnosis such as White's releases a typical man from the daily concerns and constraints of normal society and follows his transformation from mild family man to a kingpin of the drug trade.

      Hank probably reassured his colleagues about Walt by telling them to trust him and that he would help them in the investigation. It sounds bad but having a brother-in-law in the DEA is probably what allowed Walt to stay out of range for so long

    Vince did such a good job not only portraying what kind of person Walt is/was but also how other people (especially Hank) treat him. Like all the fingers pointing at Walt and Hank wouldn't even consider him as a suspect for a second. Not only is he just not that kind of person, he is totally and completely incapable of pulling off these sort of crimes...except he isn't.

    • @SamuelSchweiglen-ok9ws

      Right. Walt even says so later on, that he’s tired of living his life in fear and uncertainty. He craved to one day become a living breathing iron fist. It fell into perfect place since his front for hiding was already there for him, quite literally in plain sight, and Hank especially saw him as a man who’s a unassuming friendly high school teacher, never would he have reason to believe a man like Walt would have the will to even slightly step foot into something as dangerous as the drug/cartel world. To Hank, men like Tuco and the Salamancas were the only ones willing to live that lifestyle. Nasty psychotic vicious narcissists. No way would Walt be that type of man. No way would Walt have reason to be involved with even just a small scale criminal act, let alone successfully run an illegal drug organization. Walt was an extremely intelligent man, not just in science, but he just didn’t fully grasp and utilize it to his advantage until that lung cancer diagnosis.

I don't know how different it is in the US, but I work at a high school in Australia and the only place we even have security cameras at all is in the library, and that's only because it was built fairly recently. This was the first example of the karmic consequences at the core of BB’s theme. Walt broke the law, and inadvertently caused the janitor, who was shown to be supportive of Walt after he vomited from his cancer, to get fired from his job and arrested for marijuana charges. Even if bad deeds don’t directly hurt people, there is always a ripple effect of negative consequences. Through his transformation to Heisenberg, the consequences of Walt’s actions cause far more harm than this.

    It’s funny how Hank was the last person in Walt’s family to really find out he was Heisenberg. He left a number of hints that even Skyler caught on without much help. I’m sure Marie and Jr. would’ve connected the dots long before Hank if they had given just 1% more care for his case. Hank was 100% focused on this and he just couldn’t accept that Walt was capable of doing anything bad.

    • @Maxmorris12
      @Maxmorris12 4 місяці тому +8

      It’s Not really plot armor. We learn Walt is a terrible liar and Hank is too trusting of his brother in law. Imagine the scene from hanks perspective he at most probably just thought Walter was overly nervous and confused about the whole scenario. Assumed he thought Hank was having a dig at him

      People (especially Hank) treating early Walt like a delicate flower is a pretty important part of the show. It's not plot armor, it's plot.

    While ironically Hank always has underestimated Walt from day 1.
    Pity & Underestimation were the 2 traits Walt could get the upper hand of so many others. Mike, Gus, etc all thought Walt to be a pushover, which contributed to their demise.
