  • I need a metal brake for a future project so I figured why not try making one. The main parts of the brake are made from 2" x 1 1/2" x 1/8" and 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 1/8" angle steel.
This brake can bend up to 18 gauge stainless (depending on the width) but that's about the upper limit, it can bend mild steel up to 16 gauge.
This was super easy to make and here is where I got the design from: • How to make a DIY shee...

Nice work and video. Seems simple and very useful. Garage spring torquing rods would work well as the handles, some people might have those available from replacing garage door springs.

Great Job! Nice little simple brake. How about if you tack welded a piece of 1"x1" square tubing inside the clamp down piece. that would probably stiffen it up enough to not get any deflection when bending larger pieces.

Can you make a home made lathe next please. Haha.
Nice vid. Cant beat it for many applications needed around the shop. Im forever needing to bend a piece of sheet metal being a auto body job , rocker panels on cargo van or metal cap for my metal inclosed fire pit ect.
Have used a metal brake for light tin , soffet and facia on the house but for a heavier gauge that would be the bomb !
Thanks for sharing. I liked and subscribed many weeks ago after coming across one of your builds.
Cheers from canada my friend. 🤪

I would add a spring to the bolts holding the flat bar

Just turn the angle over and drill into the corner, no flattening of the crown and drill wobble.

Great work! Instead of upgrading the brace with larger angle steel - what about doubling it with another piece on top of the same size? Think that would help keep it from lifting?

I have a project coming up where i need to bend 10 gauge mild steel diamond plate. Do you think this brake would be able to bend it?
