One can actually hear your passion and love for this game, this community, and this project in your videos. Your work is greatly appreciated and is top notch. Its not much, but just wanted to offer, a heartfelt thank you from me. It's so good to be back in CoH again. Many of my old crew are returning and seeing so many in AP is very exciting. And the CoH community is just unlike the usual MMORPG communities. Such good folk. A breath of fresh air for sure. I've created about 20 characters in the past 48 hours just experimenting and playing with the Creator and getting my virtual crime fighting boots wet again even running a few times between levels 1-10 on diff ones. Such a joy. Soon I will settle back in to a main, (probably a Controller or Dominator again), and start playing in earnest. I've also joined the Discord so i can help support the project team. Keep up the great work, there's many heroes/villians out here who need a channel like yours. Best of luck to you, you got at least one new sub from this internet nobody.
Thank you and that constant creation of new toons will never go away as long as there are servers for the game. Trust me on that as I have been playing on the private servers for years and to this day I am still making new characters. Also if you enjoy the videos you should check out the live streams of the game I do on Sundays at 6pm PST.
I found C.O.H. Freedom with the Tequila launcher a few years ago. I was very excited and also wary to see C.O.H. again. I have recently started up with Homecoming. Having NCsoft recognize what has been done is incredibly impressive.
I'm excited, but also very scared of the changes. It's been literal years since new stuff, right? And it's good to see so many back. Think this past Saturday someone chatted there were over 1500 people on at one time.
can someone bring up the fact that sewer network still doesn't play it's music when you enter the zone.. that's been a thing since the very beginning of the server coming back.
@frequencyoftruth2303 True! But also, you can network with other players and get tips n tricks that are not well documented. The discord is a wealth of info and player hub.
I have just started playing C.O.H, just want to say how amazing it is. The amount of character and power customizations in this game is bananas, i got lost for almost quarter of the afternoon.
Yep, that is the power and control of the character customization. It has almost burnt down the house in real life, heck some people never got past the character creation of the game.
Both the 12-years-late license going a long ways to NCS redemption and this update is quite much to process, the emotions, the nostalgic gameplay, the opportunity for creators, it all feels like a dream soon to awaken from and hoping not to~ I am already reconnecting with people from pre-drop days.
Yes it is in fact a character I was going to make for a build video I made on Homecoming because of the character customization options they just added.
There has been a big influx of players due to NCSoft giving homecoming sever official game license. It's been pretty packed and fun as hell! I just came back after years. I'm predicting the game will blow up even more because they can now work on further development. Now is the time to jump in! Best part , it's completely free with no actual pay to win. The pay to win vendor gives free items and items with in game currency only.
@bl8388 I figured it was a lot. I haven't played in like 6 months but I may come back. DCUO isn't where it's at 🤣. If you see a hero woth "Intra" in the name thats me!!
I would love to see this game completely redone in Unreal engine 5 - Other than that, everything else stay the same. I'd play the crap out of THAT game!
The problem with that would be mass combat. There's a reason the character models aren't incredibly detailed (NPC's in particular), and that is there could be 50+ on the screen at one time. 100 if you have a group of masterminds. There is a balance to be struck between appearance and performance. A game that looks amazing but starts dropping frame rate as soon as weapons are drawn will get review bombed. Not sure if you knew but CoH doesn't have much physics simulation going on either - and that's a good thing - but the simulations that are in are pretty good (cloth simulation for capes to name one). CoH also has an amazing particle animation system. One concession I will make is that faces could look better. I think they could redo the unmasked faces and make them look a lot better. I can actually highlight this with a real word example. The Elder Scrolls evolution from Morrowind to Oblivion to Skyrim. I'll describe the games and you tell me if I'm going forward or backward: Seamless open world - no transitions when entering cities. Custom classes. Create custom spells and enchantments with almost any effects you know. Practice Alchemy and Enchanting anywhere. Many locations available for spell making. Reputation and bounty system. Individual NPC dispositions. 141 unique spell effects. 27 skills. 8 attributes. 18 equipment slots. Open world. Custom classes. Create custom spells and enchantments with almost any effects you know. Practice alchemy anywhere. Many locations available for Enchanting and spell making. Reputation and bounty system. Individual NPC dispositions. 125 unique spell effects. 21 skills. 8 attributes. 9 equipment slots. Open world. Many locations available for to practice Alchemy and Enchanting. Bounty system. Quest based NPC dispositions. 59 enchantment effects. 160 spells. 18 skills. 3 attributes. 7 equipment slots. Those are in order by release date. This is my go to example for games getting dumbed down as engines get more advanced. This is not exactly because the engine can't handle the complexity... more like lowering the complexity lowers the skill floor, making the game more accessible to more people - and to attract these people who don't understand/desire complex character development, well, it just has to look good. If they could - probably impossible without a ground-up complete rebuild - switching to UE5 would get looks from people who want good looking games, but having a complex character they actually have to think about is too much. That's why WoW gutted the talent trees for Cataclysm and erased hybrid specs overnight. People that were really good at building characters would make utterly game breaking characters, then everybody would copy that build, then the devs had a balance issue to fix. So to fix them once and for all they removed the options. You have 3 choices. Pick 1. Very mainstream and casual friendly, but personally I found it disheartening when my character's capabilities and complexities were stripped away. The enchanting and spell making in Morrowind were amazing. You could make any spell combination you wanted from any spell effects you knew, you could make enchants that fire off an effect when used, targeting yourself or firing as an attack. With grand souls you could make permanent effects for yourself. The system was balanced so fired effects were stronger but didn't last as long. Adding more effects made it "cost" more in terms of the power available for the enchant. In spell making, you could pick any effect(s) you knew and crank up the values to impossible to cast levels - higher values cost more magicka to cast, and if you don't have enough you can't cast it. So if you really wanted to be "that guy" you'd stack permanent Int enchantments to raise your maximum magicka. I got it above 400 on one character, and made a spell that could clear a whole building. The mobility skills and spells from Morrowind are completely GONE from Oblivion and Skyrim. No acrobatics skill, no jump spell, no levitation, not even slow fall. It was such a downer for me when I found that all the towns in Oblivion were completely walled in, and could only be entered through a gate - which is why jumping and flying were out. Can't have people jumping over walls. In Skyrim, you have towns in the open world that are seamless, which was nice to see again. Riverwood, Morthal, Winterhold, to name a few. In Morrowind every town was like this. Loading screens are not immersive - they also let developers cheat on the geometry. Object interiors may be larger than they appear. In Skyrim, Whiterun is the only city that you can walk all the way around. I haven't "measured" but I seriously doubt that it's footprint on the map is as big as the city interior. The same is true for pretty much every building. The inside is bigger than the outside. Anyway, immersion is a whole separate rabbit hole. Edit: feels kind of silly realizing I'm talking about cheating on geometry, when literally every mission in CoH that happens in a building does this. lol
@@DeviousityAtGmail Every point you make is a valid one for when the game was made. But with today's tech for games that is not true. Just take a look at PlanetSide 2. It has hundreds of players sometimes thousands in a battle. It has particle effects for explosions, healing, hacking, muzzle flashes, and more and those character models have 5 fingers and are higher poly counts.
@@ControlledChaosGaming I never played Planetside so I had to do a little research. I watched a 2 minute video on character creation. You can choose a different face from a few available faces. The reason it can have hundreds of characters in one zone is because they only have a handful of character models. When each character has a unique model it's a whole different ball game. The rendering is one thing - UE5 surely has no issue rendering hundreds of models on screen at the same time - but all the different models take up memory space, and a system where each model can be unique takes up memory space too. The bottleneck becomes system resources, not rendering capability.
