That car is very fitting! My old car would randomly stall as well, and after a lot of little fixes here and there, it ended up needing a new engine… it was more than I could handle dealing with, so I sold it to the mechanic who got it up and running again… I really miss it, actually, but am glad someone else is enjoying it. Anyway! Cool car and love the foggy first views. We actually just stumbled upon a dead deer in the woods, and a huge coyote was feeding off it, while a vulture hung out in a tree overhead. I wanted to take a picture, but I didn’t want to linger too long with our dog in the mix.
Love the trooper man. I just moved to Australia from the US like 6 months ago. Always thought the troopers were pretty cool. Luckily I picked up a 94 Land Rover discovery in a similar red to your trooper. It’s old and a little beat up. But it feels like home compared to the newer Jeep Gladiator I left back in the states.
You don't see a lot of them because the motors were crap and they handled terribly I had mine for a few months before I slid it into a silver maple in a bad rainstorm crazy I wasn't going fast at all and I made it out mostly okay but the body folded like a can of Coke behind my driver seat.
Yeah I mean it was a huge part of my teenage years. Cruising around on the road, he could take the keys out of the ignition and it would remain running. He would just turn around to the rear passenger and say hold there for me! Lol drove through corn fields and whatnot. Something about a Japanese 80s 4x4 with a 4 banger and manual. It’s underpowered, but adequate. It relies on technique and appreciation for the utilitarian aspect. The square shape is pinnacle SUV , back when SUV s were a compromise. People used to drive these BECAUSE they drive like a Death Star on a see saw.
Good video! I followed the link from the Facebook Trooper group, so I hit the thumbs up and subscribed, too. My first thought was maybe an ignition module? I had a 1991 Honda that had a nearly identical issue. The solder joints cracked in the module and after it warmed up, the joints expanded and broke the connection. They'd cool off, and it fired back up. I'm looking forward to future videos! One of my update videos shows a bit about my '94 but I'll make a video soon about the Trooper and my '90 B350 soon. More in depth look. Take care!
Don't jump straight into swapping the idle air control valve. ALOT of guys swap those out when they aren't often the issue. 1. Check the engine relay, it gets a signal from the alternator when the motor is running/ cranking over. And then takes over sending power to idle air control valve and fuel pump. It should be one of the Blue relays in the fuse box. Check that 1st. As a mechanic. Isuzu's 2.6 are what I've spent the most indepth time with recently. Reply back. With any other info you got going on. That can help. Those relays will intermittently fail. Love the red mahogany color btw. I'm building one right now with an isuzu 2.8 turbo diesel I imported for the motor swap.
@@BeauSchnapp thanks for the input! You can actually see it stall and I had to restart at the very end of the video - but it’s not very useful. I’ll try to get a video of the issue and upload with a part two!
Really nice car! Floor mats Sir, you can't go wrong...check fuel filter, gunk in the gas tank?? Yes the county will dump deer hit onnthe sideboard the rd ect into the woods..don't trust people in the woods who do crazy things like that!!
Enjoyed the video of the Trooper i let get away! Worked out tho because i luckily found a 90 just like yours except it is a LS model with tons of chrome but i wish it had the 4 cyl i love instead of the Chevy V6!
There's a procedure to test these on the vehicle 1st. Before jumping into swapping it. And given the symptoms mentioned in his video. Its more likely an electrical issue.

Had a friend growing up had the exact same trooper. I love them it’s a nostalgia car for me as well
Oh hell yeah! Did you get to take any rides in it?

@ haha hell yes! My key does the same thing. And yes - you’re exactly right. Underpowered but it’ll do the job!

Really nice episode and a car tour. What happens after the engine shuts off? Can it start again?
@@3dkng dude thank you!!! Usually I have to turn it back on a few times. You can see it happen at the very end!
brightblack morning light ftw...!

Had a Volvo that shut off on the freeway. It was a blown fuse for the fuel pump. Maybe it’s a loose fuse or bad connection?
Pulling my 89 out of the barn this week. Been sitting almost four years. I miss my 4x4
It has always been this or Nissan patrol for me

My maroon 1984 Isuzu Trooper II 4×4 (4-speed manual) was an awesome daily driver and a proven off roader, but I swear It wouldn't go over 55mph...!!!
change your idle air control valve
