I'm struck by how skillfully you're doing this and I also really love seeing artists branch out in other types of art. I hope you can keep sharing these videos - I know it's a lot of extra work but I for one really enjoy seeing them. What a tactile experience I can almost feel the cold gooey-ness
coming from a professional ceramic artist, your doing very well for your beginner courses. From what I can see I would say focus on centering your work and maybe slow down as your pulling up your walls for your piece so it remains centered, and i guarantee you will have an easier time throwing and trimming. great job!
When I was a freshman in high school I took a ceramics class and really enjoyed it. One week we all made our own stein-like mugs with glaze and carved in designs and were excited to see the finished product. A day or two passed and when we walked into the classroom our teacher was crying. She told us all that our mugs had exploded/broken in the kiln and apologized profusely through her tears. Although we were all a little disappointed, it was really sweet that she cared so much about our little works of art that most would probably consider insignificant. That was 17 years ago but I still think about it from time to time. That teacher and her class taught me a lot about exercising my creative mind and also being a thoughtful and empathetic person. Art is wonderful
Hullo Peter! It looks like you have a wonderful work room for creating ceramics! I took several ceramic classes in college and so I realize how difficult it is to create several items that look the same! You did an awesome job ! Jargon is a specific set of words that are used in a field of endeavor to essentially exclude the neophyte and keep techniques secret from the un-initiated or strangers! I found the exact same thing with learning about computers and computer languages! I am glad that you are enjoying your learning experience. I truly feel that an Artist never stops learning, the more fields of knowledge that you are familiar with the greater your knowledge base is and allows you to create more knowledgeable art. Keep learning Peter! I do enjoy watching your videos!
Great video, Peter and love seeing you enjoying ceramics this much!!! It seems to be coming naturally to you, which is exciting!!! Love your bowls and goblet - you are right to make as many as you can and get those practice miles in! Altered shapes are really fun, too! Can't wait to see you glaze and decorate your pots!!! Keep playing, Peter and having such fun ☺️💫😎
The thing I miss most about Jr.High and High School art class was working with clay. The schools had their own kilns, and it was always my favourite unit. Both schools also had pottery wheels, but they never used them nor let me use them since they were "too messy." This video really has me missing clay and reigniting my desire to use a pottery wheel!
I can not imagine a pottery wheel at a school not used as being too messy? How very absurd it is to hold that "stuck" mindset? And I imagine the other areas of that school remain pristine in cleanliness? Pffft!! If I were a teacher or pupil at that school and saw that I would see changes were made somehow. The saddest thing about coming from California Schools to the Alabama ones is seeing there are no art classes at all. What happens to the student that can not express such a desired hunger to be taught? Yet, athletics takes on a huge crowd here. My own son was not one who suffered from this. I his mother saw to ot that he had plenty of Art after school and on the weekends. California teaching is going above and beyond. Of the which my heart applaus. 👏
I LOVE the short and wide bowl you made. So sick to get a glimpse of what art school is like. I think it is something I would enjoy, as art was always one of my favorite subjects from grade school all the way to college. I love your content Peter!
On the subject of unusual words in ceramics, I recall there was a job called the 'Sagger-makers' Bottom-knocker' These were lads who assisted the Sagger-maker, who built the fireclay boxes to protect items during firing. The bottom of the boxes didn't need the same level of skill, so the SMBK spent his day hammering clay into frames to shape and flatten it. Sagger is also spelled saggar, sagar, or sager.
Peter! I am so excited for you at this new art form. Gorgeous little soldier bowls you made! Looking forward to you glazing them! ❤️ Btw - the reason pot's can blow up in thevkiln is because the a air bubble was in the clay vessel that never got out. At least that is what my teacher said oodles of years ago when I was in art class learning pottery back in the 70s. The teacher always encouraged us to kneed the clay well on the block to make sure and get those bubbles that "might be" worked out. This video was uber satisfying to watch and took me back a few decades. 😎
Omg I relate so much with what you said at around 18:00 about pretending you made the music while listening to it and because of that being able to appreciate it more.
You will find that at least one of those little pots you made will represent these times in your life for always & the satisfaction that YOU made it will last forever. If I were you I would keep the very best one AND the wonkiest. Both will make you smile :)
Something you would probably love for glaze designs is laying a string/thread across your pot and then glazing. By the time the glaze dries you pull it off and have a neat little scribble pattern😄
I’m taking a hand building class this semester and actually talked about your art when we had to present some artists. Can’t wait to see your ceramic works!
Man it's been months, probably even years that I did not watch one of your videos. You could probably know from the youtube panel. I watched you back when you did plants reviews and mooved to a new flat etc To be honest: I got bored of the pen testing arc that was going on a lot a few years ago. As I'm coming back to drawing and a more artsy and creative spirit, I came back to this video I saved for later when you released it. I missed your soothing voice and comments about stuff. You'll probably see more of me down here :) I'm glad i'm "rediscovering" your channel. Hope you're well.
It's so cool to see you taking a ceramics course at the same time I am! Your technique is already great for your second assignment! I'd totally buy one of your bowls if you have too many now lol
It really seems like you're enjoying your schooling more than when you were doing architecture. My brother-in-law is really adept at ceramics and created his own "drippy glaze" he calls it, It's very snotty looking and I think you'd like it
omg peter!!! ceramics is so fun! i used to listen to your podcast-ish videos in my high school ceramics class :’D been following u for so many years this is so exciting for me to see you get into it!! its so fun isnt it ^^ i bet being in a class with you would be a blast.
Just a curious question. What's the reason for slicing them off with the wire while stationary? I would think you could get a straighter cut if it was spinning (slowly). I suppose maybe it doesn't matter since you clean it up later, but still.
My favorite is the almost spherical one with all the little dents in the lip. I'm actually planning on finding wild clay this year and trying to fire it in my fire pit. Really interested to see what happens!!
Wondering what you decided to do with all your bowls. Myself, I would have extensively photograghed each one before giving or selling them. Hope you are having a wonderful day!
UA-camr Andy Ward discusses and shows himself finding clay "in the wild" in Arizona. He teaches about the Native American clay pots from the past. The Native Americans even had a trade route. Very interesting guy.
I can see beautiful pottery made with your art on them and glazed to a lovely sheen. My sister is a potter, so satisfying seeing her finished works, I have a few here in my house. Edit: 18:26 I agree, I feel the same way :)
Really cool bowls and such a soothing video! my mother used to work with ceramics and now it makes me sad that I never learned how to do it :c Wanna try taking a course but as a broke artist spending a few hundred on a class seems aaaaaaaaaa
Cole Pottery from near Sanford makes all their own NC clay. I have some amazing pieces made in the 80s by Nelia. A bread bowl that is over a foot in diameter and the walls are 1/4 inch and less. I especially like experimental pieces like wood fired, salt glazed, raku, native clay… Good to see you getting your hands dirty. *AIR POCKETS!* If there's a big enough air pocket hidden inside a large chunk of clay, there's no escape route for the pressure that builds up (due to the air inside the pocket heating up much faster than the surrounding clay), and so it explodes. *KILN KABOOMS!!*
I love that your school is so open to you filming the process. It's so cool we get to see what you're learning.
Haven't watched you in a while. It feels like a breath of fresh air oddly enough.
I was thinking the exact same thing. I just decided to randomly search him on youtube to see if he was still putting out vids.
I'm struck by how skillfully you're doing this and I also really love seeing artists branch out in other types of art. I hope you can keep sharing these videos - I know it's a lot of extra work but I for one really enjoy seeing them. What a tactile experience I can almost feel the cold gooey-ness

Your creative spirit and willingness to experiment with any medium is pretty inspiring.

As a clay artist. this is by far one of my fav videos of you Peter.
I LOVE the short and wide bowl you made. So sick to get a glimpse of what art school is like. I think it is something I would enjoy, as art was always one of my favorite subjects from grade school all the way to college. I love your content Peter!
You should be very proud! They are all beautiful! The one that went wonky and you just embraced it, would make a wonderful pen holder!

Thank you for the lore, really cool
Loved this Peter. Your joy of learning something new is inspiring.

L0L ceramics adventures! Great way in general of looking at life, an adventure!
Thank you for making this video, I have missed longer videos from this channel❤️You look like you have a natural gift in making ceramics
we love you to draw with and just be with peter!!!!!!!
Omg I relate so much with what you said at around 18:00 about pretending you made the music while listening to it and because of that being able to appreciate it more.

Pottery is very relaxing. Your friend Victoria is cute. ☺️
6:33 wow Victoria has very cool hair, love it

I enjoyed that process, your explanation, and the creativity at play.
I’m taking a hand building class this semester and actually talked about your art when we had to present some artists. Can’t wait to see your ceramic works!
I have always wanted to take a ceramics class! It just looks so fun and relaxing. Cool stuff!
All of them came out really nice.. can't wait to see what you do with them further.. also love the rustic look of them too before being glazed.
So cute that even Peter paused to appreciate the satisfaction of slicing through soft clay ^.=.^
Slowly rotate the wheel as you wire off the bowl and it will be straight. Plus i suggest using more water. But you’re doing great!!!

Love this video sm it was so satisfying and calming to watch. It’s always refreshing to see your process I hope to see more soon :)))
pottery is so fun! for a beginner you’re doing amazing lol it took me so long to get past making tiny short pots that all looked the same
Nice work. You are a natural.
I definitely wanna see more of these videos !! That was very nice !
That last completed bowl is the ULTIMATE soup bowl!
Really cool to see you throw! I studied ceramics for a year and this video took me right back
love it. Peter Pots :D
this is awesome! i really love wheel throwing n i’m glad to see wheel content from you!
It really seems like you're enjoying your schooling more than when you were doing architecture. My brother-in-law is really adept at ceramics and created his own "drippy glaze" he calls it, It's very snotty looking and I think you'd like it
That "X" bowl looks like a dope flower pot. Yet another example of no mistakes in life... Just happy accidents 😊

i bet you would have a lot of fun with sgraffito and mishima surfaces. im actually so excited to see the sort of things you make.

All those bowls could make cool garden sculptures? or pots for house plants? Or a rain chain?
Lovely to see another video😆

Loved the goblet peter, thanks for being so damn soothing

Ceramic adventures!
How great Peter! Will you draw some designs on them and glaze? I think a fine paintbrush and your beautiful art on some will look so awesome. x Nell.
Oh yesss, you gotta paint on it.
Peter, I am bold (bowled) over by your video lol! You have a wonderful voice…I’m curious… Do you sing? 🥣🎶🎵🎶
He sings and makes music, I think he's on Spotify still
This is freakin great. Idk if you have a TikTok, but if you do, you should put this on there
you can punch some holes in the bottom of these and use them for plants
Really cool bowls and such a soothing video! my mother used to work with ceramics and now it makes me sad that I never learned how to do it :c Wanna try taking a course but as a broke artist spending a few hundred on a class seems aaaaaaaaaa
I would love to watch you source your own clay from nature
` I feel as though it would be fun if you were to use acrylic-based markers to create some neat designs on some of the bowls.
Peter these are not draws, but they are what we needed.
They will be draws (on them) soon though 🤩

I took a pottery throwing class for one day last September, and ever since I've been desperate to get back on the wheel. Nothing is like it.
if you get shelves for them thats gonna be sooooo cute
😳
Awesome!!
There is a Petercraft reference in this video!
I wanna bite a bowl now. Also we got the red clay in georgia too!
It belongs to the natives
Well, how did the glazing work out?
Good, I just photographed them, I’ll post on Instagram soon
i keep watching with my mouth open😂😂😂🤷🏻♀️
Will we get to see you eat Ramen out of one of them?
2:37 nice
Peter pots

Did I hear maybe sell those bowls? If you initial and glaze one I'd gladly pay $100 for it
Just make sure the clay, and anything you put on it (glazes) are food-safe, before you drink or eat anything from them.
almost 1 million subscribers, and only 6.9k views?
I dunno
Trimming.
The shavings resemble doner and now I am very hungry
When there is a hole in the bowl, a mole can fix it with a ball
Ceramics was my least favorite Art Class. It was mostly the people's who spent SO MUCH TIME on their pieces only for them to EXPLODE in the kiln.
Peter: make sure you wear lung protection, it's not safe to breathe
also Peter: *chomp* *chomp*
Will you not eat a biscuit just because you refuse to inhale flour?
The bowl with the hole could have been filled, it could be easily fixed. It’s not a failure
Community reference
So you can't breathe it in...... but you can bite it....😩
The powder doesn’t get in your lungs when you bite it
i also wanna eat them 😍
you could put food into the bowls and give it to homeless people :p
Literally talks about not noticing bowls and cups and then later in the video talks about appreciating the art of movies and making bowls.
Well most of the bowls and cups I use daily weren’t individually crafted, they were mass produced
First!
