I hope there will be a second season because it is from Madhouse studio, although I agree with what you mention, Skip And Loafer another similar season anime is even less popular than Yamada-kun right now. That being said, I've watched some of Yamada's manga panels and... all I can say is: SO HOT! 🔥
I don't know whether someone commented about it, but the same Japanese VA does Miyamura and Yamada.

i am back with two recommendations that are currently releasing that you should check out some day! they are:
insomniacs after school and the dangers in my heart.
insomniacs after school is about a guy and a girl bonding over their insomnia, and restarting their schools astronomy club. the show dives into astrophotography, similar to how my dress up darling does cosplay, and the interactions between the characters is on the same level as horimiya. everyone is loveable and you learn a lot about all of them. not to mention it’s visually stunning. would 1000% recommend it.
dangers in my heart is hands down the fan favorite romcom for basically everyone this season. it follows the basic premise of awkward boy meets popular girl, but the way the relationship develops is so fresh and satisfying to watch happen. they’re both loveable dorks with adorable little quirks, and it’s such a cute journey seeing the two of them unknowingly help each other grow as people.
i genuinely wasn’t expecting much out of either of these, but both skyrocketed to becoming my favorites of the season. i can guarentee you would not regret watching either.
ALSO wonderful episode and wonderful reaction. this episode made me go 🥰🥰🥰 the whole time
