do both of the full songs with a proper time to "study" and do it at your best. you are an insane musician, with an insane song. i know your time is limited, but your skillz are UNLIMITED! Imagine just playing 8 bars or bach and call it a day... bach would wake up from the dead!!! now tim is still alive tho, he deserves and we deserve it full. pretty please?
"He's already doing octaves" Its a pretty sick riff but as a guitar player I can assure this is almost certainly way harder on violin. Especially if you want to play the piece with the same energy as a guitar player. Fair play for nailing it
I play both guitar and violin... can confirm they are WAY harder on violin. If you are even the slightest bit off on violin it's super obvious whereas you just have to hit 2 frets a step away and 2 strings down for MOST octaves on guitar
@@rykehuss3435 I beg to differ. Harmonics can be challenging but there is no reason a beginner shouldn't practice them. Plus, plenty of people learn them early on.
@@vlurpjuice8620 Yes there is a reason, and the reason is that theyre better off practicing more basic techniques. Plenty of people make mistakes in the way they practice
I truly hope Tim sees this. Polyphia often will sit and watch fan videos and covers. Really want to see his reaction, he's always honored and humbled to be covered by all levels of musician, but especially by those who take such care and effort into learning his music. Well done, Ray. Excellent adaptation to the violin.
Left hand pizzicato is ho hum for players of Rays extradinary skill- he's a top proponent of Paganini Caprices, Sarasate and co whose compositions are full of skill defying effects!!
I hope we also recognize that the music of Polyphia is being played on a Stradivarius. A freaking Stradivarius. It is now part of the instrument's history. An addition to its legacy. Glad to be living in a time where classical music has been made more approachable yet not lose its virtuosity. In a world where music is created by algorithms and redundant lyrics, musicians like Ray and Tim keep it alive by technique, interpretation and innovation, and it is so gratifying having musicians like them who, through their music, engages our brain to more activity than any other endeavor within the time span of this video. Ray x Tim - following
This just reminded me that Tim Henson actually grew up playing the violin until around 15. In an interview, he talks about how his teachers sort of made him hate it growing up because they were physically abusive (I think they hit him across his hand with a bow if he made mistakes??) but that he's grateful he had the opportunity to learn because it taught him discipline. Love how this turned out, this series is so fun!
the crazy thing is that in the 30minutes... Ray is talking to the camera, reacting, and explaining.... along with watching Tim's tutorial. So Ray is doing it in LESS than 30 minutes!
I feel like he already knows how to play it by just looking at it but pretending just so he could praise the author who his audiences also like. But also because he’s quite nice.
@@kenji2787 obvi he knows how to play it by the sheet music but it's the annotations of the fingerings and whatnot. he knows what it has to sound like, that's how he picks up on it so easy, but performing it is wayy different
I'll absolutely be there and cheering if/when you do a collab with Tim Henson & the whole Polyphia band! Amazing performance, thanks for sharing with us.
Tim actually has a background as a classically trained violinist and its clear that it flavored his composing like you said with the pice being reminiscent of an chaconne makes sense
I love when a word I use regularly is presented in a new light, like how he just simply defined "song" vs a piece. I'd like to think I have a pretty solid grasp on English relative to most, but this kind of thing still happens.
This is so amazing. I don't watch many violinists play, but I can say for sure that I have never seen anyone play licks on one, especially as smooth as you. You are incredible, man!
Really amazing, shows Tim's incredible talent as a musician and composer. His riffs take world class musicians just to sort of replicate them lol. Unreal. And they sound so good I'd buy the violin album ALL DAY
wow that sounded really sick, actually. i love how this interpretation really showcases the dynamic range of the violin. i love the little editing touches too (this applies to all of ray's videos, but i definitely appreciated the cheekiness of imitating the music video with the typography and stuff). this one turned out even better than the Playing God one!
As a violinist and guitarist, it's more difficult to play this on violin, and still play so well, perfectly, impossible not to be impressed by your performance bro
oh man, you are so good!! i subscribed after the first video with "playing god". usually, when i hear a violin, it is immediately clear whether it is good or bad. if it is bad, i immediately turn off the video. although i have never played an instrument myself. after your first notes it was obvious that it would be good. but i was very interested in how it would sound in the end. and every time you do not disappoint! thank you for this and for the positivity. ❤
Would love to see a challenge where you take a bunch of classes and try to learn other stringed instruments in 24 hours. Guitar, cello, erhu, etc. I've been playing guitar from a really young age and when I tried my hand at violin when I was a kid, I felt like I had a step up on most of other students. The bowing was obviously completely alien, but all the left hand stuff came relatively easily. Would be awesome to see what a world class violinist can do going the other way!
Absolutely love this! I would also really want to watch a video of you without the time limit and just learning a whole Polyphia song. I think it'd be cool if you talked about how you would transcribe a piece's sound/vibe into your violin playing and what kind of personal flair you put into it
This is actually insane lol, the way you added the chords I didn’t think a violin could get that close! Amazingggg hope to see a full cover mastered soon! 🙏🏼
Listening to Tim's original and Ray's interpretation makes me feel like listening to two gods! Like the amount of talent in both versions is unbelievable, the best humanity has to offer. And you're right, the most important thing is to capture the vibe, which is what you managed to do. Thank you
Ho - ly - shiet.. Bruh, this is fire!! I really hope Tim sees this. You really need to get a feature on some of his next works. You are so frickin good Ray!!! The feeling from a real instrument i dunno.. NOTHING beats that. Great work!
Sheesh, it's really magnificent to see a professional classical violinist playing pop music. You could definitely see the mastery in theie playing technique.
I cried watching this and I fell inlove with you ❤.playing the violin has been my passion I got my violin 2 weeks ago and I’m yet to begin my practice because I’ll have to move back to school for that I’ve been watching and following love you man 🩷.
You're incredibly talented and your videos are very entertaining and funny. Once you started playing I was covered with goosebumps and it stayed with me untill the end of your amazing performance! I'm giving a sub.
The fact that you are able to learn such a difficult piece on a completely different instrument in only 30 minutes is just incredible! Can’t wait to see what you continue to play in the future. i'd all for it, he is already elevating their music in 30 minutes lol i can just imagine an entire recording session.
