Oh yes. The more copper tubes and complicated pulleys and belts the better. I love this stuff. I have loved it since my Mother bought me a book about a steam shovel when I was really little. Thank you for sharing this video.

We have been a part of the show for over 30 years. I’ve drove my dad’s friends engines since I was little. As a member and as a collector I can guarantee that if you ask very nicely a few guys would allow you to ride and a few might even spend the time to teach you how to fully operate. I know from experience that operating one is more than a full time task. Which is why I stick to gas and diesel tractors. lol. I do have the upmost respect for the people and their machines though. Hope to see you this year for the John Deere feature!

Part of the fun with the steam engines is that it usually is a two person job to operate the engine itself and to steer the machine, so it can be a fun way to socialize and also a bit of a trust exercise ("Left! Left a bit! Little more! Oh, right a bit, you're going to take out that fence!" Etc)
But in terms of being able to start up, do what needs doing, and then shut down, it's hard to beat a classic gas tractor!
We have an Aveling & Porter steam roller at the Hesston Steam Museum in Laporte, IN however it doesn't run. We also have a steam powered sawmill
Would be fun to pit the roller in a race against the three truck Shay - Might be pretty nearly matched!
This was so much fun
We'll have to do this again sometime!
You seem to be pretty enthusiastic about steam tractors you happen to know a guy who owns an AD baker is a professional welder, has a boy with my first name, and brought his traction engine to the doughty Valley steam days the year before last im trying to track him down because I want to learn to weld boilers edit I believe the the tractor was Sam Hoffmans grandfather a advid steam tractors modeler who shows his work at the doey Valley steam days and I believe that the threshing machine that was with the tractor when Sam's grandfather owned it is in cattail foundry's collection now
