Id say for someone who’s passionate to learn drifting get a simahic alpha mini or alpha or ultimate depending ur budget with if u have money get p1000 if less get sim jacks pedals. If u want a high end chassis get an advanced sim racing if u want a more budget friendly get a next level racing one. Get s shifter and a handbrake any brand works fine & have fun.
Solid Advice but for those who have a smaller budget than even that I would recommend Moza from what I've heard and a simple wheel stand like a gt omega one

There’s a place in Japan don’t know if it still exists that has sim wheels as the controllers for rwd rc drift cars lool don’t know how good it actually is but similar to your idea of sim rig controlling a real car but less expensive and risk

You say you can’t justify a sim but I’ve have literally 5 years of sliding nearly every day on mine that I bought for 500$ and homemade stand and ebrAke.. you guys keep comparing the cost of tires to it but are keeping out the costs of maintenance on the drift car and town vehicle/ trailer and the fuel for it lol you sir hve some sort of ego issues towards sims like you’re better then them or something
